This turkey rub is a blend of savory spices that come together to make the ultimate poultry seasoning. Homemade spice rub will add plenty of flavor to your Thanksgiving turkey, and also works well with chicken, pork and beef.

Turkey Rub

salt

brown sugar

paprika

black pepper

thyme

rosemary

sage

garlic powder

onion powder

Place all the ingredients in a small bowl. Stir until combined.

Rub the spice mixture all over your turkey, as well as under the skin, then cook as desired.

Spice rub can be made up to 2 months in advance.

Measure everything and dump it into a blender; see &quot;Measuring&quot; note about the bay leaves. Put the lid on the blender (very important), and run it on medium for a few seconds, turn it off, and run it again. Continue pulsing about until you have a powder. Dump the whole thing in a jar and label it.

How to use this stuff. If the food has not been been brined, then sprinkle with salt, ½ teaspoon per pound. If it has been brined, then skip the salt. Lightly coat your chicken or potatoes or asparagus or whatever with water (the ingredients dissolve better in water than oil), sprinkle on the rub liberally, even if you are a conservative. If time permits, let the seasoned meat sit in the fridge for an hour or three.

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.

Rub ingredients under skin and all around turkey as a dry rub or wet rub (turkey rub butter) with softened or melted butter.

Prepare as desired. This will be enough seasoning for a 12 - 14 pound turkey.

Herb Butter for Turkey

unsalted butter (softened to room temperature)

black pepper (freshly ground)

rosemary (finely chopped)

thyme (finely chopped)

sage (finely chopped)

lemon juice (optional)

Mix the softened butter with minced garlic, chopped herbs, salt, pepper, lemon zest, and lemon juice (if using). Be sure to stir until everything is evenly mixed.

Gently loosen the turkey skin from the meat and rub a generous amount of the herb butter under the skin and all over the outside of the turkey. This ensures a crispy, golden skin, and infuses the meat with flavor.

Roast the turkey according to your favorite recipe. I recommend my roasted Thanksgiving turkey recipe!

When i jump to the recipe, under instructions, it says mix the softened butter with minced garlic, and I did add about a teaspoon of minced garlic.  I will say, though,  that even if I had not added the garlic, the recipe was superb!  I tried it on chicken first to see if I would like the flavor for my Thanksgiving turkey and I will definitely be using it for my turkey!

Made this for Thanksgiving and now again for Christmas, super easy but what a difference it makes!
