Light and fresh, easy tzatziki sauce is a creamy yogurt cucumber dip packed with fresh cucumbers, garlic, dill, lemon juice and olive oil. So easy to make.

Easy Tzatziki Sauce (Cucumber Yogurt Dip)

plain Greek yogurt

garlic, pressed

lemon juice (juice of 1/4 lemon)

+ 1/2 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped

black pepper

kalamata olives (for garnish)

Grate the cucumber and drain through a cheesecloth, fine mesh sieve or using your hands.

Transfer drained cucumber to a medium bowl. Add the yogurt, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, dill, salt and pepper. Stir to combine.

Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to let the flavours infuse into the yogurt.

Garnish with some olives, a sprig of fresh dill and a swirl of olive oil.

How to Make Authentic Greek Tzatziki

(2 cups) Greek yogurt

peeled,

kosher salt

garlic, finely minced

olive oil

lemon juice

Peel the cucumber and slice it in half lengthwise.

Use a spoon to scrape out the seeds, then grate the cucumber using a box grater.

Place the shredded cucumber in a clean tea towel or cheesecloth and squeeze out as much liquid as possible. This prevents a watery tzatziki.

In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the drained Greek yogurt, shredded cucumber, salt, minced garlic, olive oil, and lemon.

Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Top with dill, and optionally additional olive oil when serving.

Serve as a dip for pita bread, grilled meats, or fresh vegetables.

Store leftover tzatziki in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

I love this "sauce"! I tried it in several versions, but this original, with Greek style yogurt is definitely the best for me. Here in Croatia we have a habit of making a version ov tzatziki which uses sour cream instead of yogurt and onions instead of garlic.

I prepare mine the same way. Lived in Thessa, Santorini and Crete in the early 1990s, and had learnt to prepare numerous Greek dishes. Though I am Italian &amp; French, I love Meze.

I mean this is pretty much spot on for the perfect tzatziki. My mother made it this exact way, and it is delicious. I grew up on Rhodos, and this is my favorite thing to eat.
