Baked Bean Casserole

Cooking spray

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9- by 13- by 2-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.

In a large saucepan, brown the ground beef, onions and bell peppers. Add the pork and beans, barbecue sauce, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce and brown sugar to the mixture. Simmer for 5 minutes. Transfer the mixture to the prepared casserole dish. Sprinkle the bacon over the top of the casserole. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and continue to bake for an additional 10 minutes. Let the casserole stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Delicious!  So hearty and delicious. Smoky and sweet.  Hearty and filling.  We love it. 

My go to recipe for years. Ever since I first made it for my picky husband. It really sticks to your ribs. Plus it has vegetables, which I’m always trying to get more of, that are good for us. No matter if it’s Sunday night dinner, a cookout or potluck this is a winner recipe. 

Really good.  The only way to be embarrassed is to not make it correctly.  Be sure to buy name brand pork and beans and buy top brand thick cut bacon.  It makes all the difference.  Off brand beans are runny and lacks seasoning.  Making this for part of my 4th menu again.  Thank you for the recipe!!

The baked bean casserole could be better. I was going to make it for a party and decided to make one for dinner too. So glad I did because I would have been so embarrassed to serve people that.

I made this bean casserole with 2 cans drained chili beans {2 - 28 oz cans)) and 1  made the sauce 1.5 times the amount and added some sirachi sauce to it to spice it up a little more. I also baked it for 20  min. more without the aluminum foil.  It was excellent!

So delicious! It’s hard to put the fork down!

I do it all in the crockpot( after browning beef and onion)<br />Simmer all day and yum!fan favorite!!

This is a “tootin”-scootin good recipe! You better add some Pepto Bismol after this recipe! Now my wife’s worried the neighbors won’t come back after I passed too much gas after making this delightful casserole! Oh well, if you can’t stand my toots, get out of my house! Farted all day, nonstop after this casserole. I ate the whole damn thing it was that good. Hangtime on the farts was so bad, the family left for the day. Washed it down with cheap beer. Yup, I'd eat this again.

Husband *loved* it - we ate it as a main dish. Will definitely make again. I could see this being a “manly side dish,” too, Trisha! 

Excellent recipe.  I made 1 minor change by leaving out the bell pepper because I can't eat them cooked in certain dishes.  I used Stubb's sweet heat bbq sauce which is our favorite.  <div><br /></div><div>I think it will easily make 12 side dish servings but if using for the main course then more like 4-6 servings.  </div>

Surprisingly simple and turns the humble can of baked beans into a fantastic main dish.

This is a VERY flavorful dish. I watched the video and discovered that the video differed from the written directions. I only used 28 oz of Bush’s country style beans and thought the amount listed in the recipe would have been too much. I followed the written recipe and did not sauté the onion and bell pepper in the bacon drippings as the video suggests. Also only baked it for 45 minutes (covered with foil) total. Not sure if this enough for a meal, but definitely too heavy for a side dish. 

I have made the several times and  always asked to bring it to the next family party! I usually double it and put it in the crockpot, but I omit all the brown sugar. I think it’s sweet enough with the barbecue sauce. 

My family and friends beg me to make this every time we have a get-together. It has become a staple in our house. Delicious!!<br />

Great recipe!!! There is an error in the ingredients list though. This recipe calls for 2 cans of baked beans NOT four, as it is listed twice. I also followed Trisha's method, watch the video, of using the bacon grease to saute' the pepper, onion, and then brown the ground beef.

I have made these beans multiple times and they are great. They get eaten up real fast and people always ask for the recipe. I normally don’t like baked beans but I love these.

Amazing! Loved it! I made it just as stated, but I used Stubb’s spicy barbecue sauce and a couple shakes of Tony’s to add a little heat.

I just made this dish and it was delicious!  My husband loved it.  Instead of adding the brown sugar, I used a 16 &amp; 8oz can of Bush's Original Baked Beans with bacon and brown sugar in addition to a 16oz can of regular pork &amp; beans.  This recipe is the perfect BBQ side dish . . . A keeper for sure.

Perfect tasty dish for my disabled husband.  He cleaned his plate.  I found it very tasty but a little heavy on my stomach.  However, I have to ask.  Does the recipe call for FOUR cans of pork and beans or TWO?  Is there a typo in the recipe?

Husband loved. Could be used as main dish with side of slaw. Rich with umami.

Whole family loved it. Used an extra half pound of ground beef, but otherwise followed recipe as written. Will definitely be making this one again!

I suspected from just reading the recipe that it would be too sweet for my family, so I cut the sugar in half before baking. Even then, it was too sweet for anyone to eat without some serious doctoring. People did it individually, either with more barbecue sauce, steak sauce, tabasco...just about anything that would make it more savory. Even then, I had leftovers because it was too much of a hassle to make edible for everyone.

Made as directed except added 2 diced jalapenos and a bit of finely chopped garlic but omitted the bell pepper. Kicked it in the tail with some home made scotch bonnet sauce too - we like hot! Did the old back of the muffin tin trick with corn tortillas to make little bowls for serving topped with shredded Mexican blend cheese which melted in nicely and also some diced tomato and scallion.  Muy bueno! 

I made this for a pot luck at work &amp; everyone raved over them.   The recipe is easy and is DELICIOUS!!!!   By unanimous request I am making it again for our Bar-B-Q Blast the last Friday in April.   Thanks Trisha.  

I make this all the time for my family but due to my daughters beef allergy, I use ground turkey.  My family loves this dish!  I also put mozzarella cheese on it when I take it out of the oven or in a bowl on the table.  Big hit in our family.

When I first tasted this recipe my mother had made it for Memorial Day weekend and they were the best baked beans I ever ate. She served them along side BBQ pork ribs. This recipe has so much flavor &amp; tang, it's now my go-to recipe for baked beans made exactly as recipe is written. This is definitely a 'splurge' food as it has a lot of fat &amp; calories. I only make it for special holiday occasions such as 4th of July, Memorial Day &amp; Labor day when we BBQ. YUM! {P.S. as an alternative option I agree with another reviewer that heat/spice lovers could easily add hot peppers or hot sauce to all of the other ingredients in this recipe if desired, unless kids will be eating it of course.}

This is the best baked bean casserole that I have found!   My husband took to his hunting club for dinner and they all wanted the recipe!   Did not change a thing!

My husband and I LOVED this recipe.  Also love the idea of adding chopped hot dogs before baking.  I cooked very crisp bacon and held it aside.  Only added it when I pulled the casserole out of the oven by sprinkling liberally over the top.  That way it stayed crispy.  I would recommend baking the dish at 325 and not 350.  It was boiling rapidly when I pulled it out at 350.   I don't think this is necessary.  This is super easy to put together and super delicious.  I will make it many many times.  What a great dish for Saturday Night Beans &amp; Franks.

This dish is a hit in my home!! My husband could not stop talking about how good it was the whole time he was eating. I followed the recipe to the letter and added one additional ingredient, cut up hot dogs. I put the hot dogs in just before sliding the dish in the oven. My husband said he wouldn't change a thing. Thank you for the great recipe!!!

I have made a few times now because family always request.  The only change i made was that i used pinto beans instead of pork and beans.  I drain the beans before adding.  Came out perfect, not runny.

What a great thing to do with canned pork and beans!  Sauce is delicious.

My boyfriend just made this last night...it was delicious~we both loved it!  He made it just as written, baked it...came out perfect, not a bit runny or liquidy as reviewer below experienced.  We ate it as the main dish, (it's plenty substantial with the ground beef in it), with just some crunchy french bread on the side.  It's a keeper we will be making again and again!  Thanks Trisha!

So easy to fix.  I make this by request on almost every camping trip we go on.  We camp about every 2-3 weeks each summer.  So tasty, kids and adults love them.<br />

Made this recipe for a July 4th celebration at our daughter's home.  It was a HUGE success!  Everyone came for seconds!  Easy and soooo good!

Loved this recipe.  Great for a potluck.  I did add chopped jalapenos and some green hot sauce.  It was great.

I made the full recipe and we will have leftovers for days, will half the recipe next time.  Next time I will not use as much hamburger or add another can of beans, to much meat for us.  Also, I suggest using a little hot sauce or pepper just to wake it up a little bit.  

We made these the very next day...they were easy and tasted great!  All of boys said "this is a keeper recipe!"  

I planned on making a different pulled pork recipe when I saw this episode.  I wasn't sure if this casserole would be overkill.  It was fantastic!  So glad I went for it.... this dish was so much better than anything else in the meal.  I can't wait to try Trisha's pulled pork.

Baked beans with a kick! Really a great dish on it's own. We had it tonight with sliced tomatoes from our garden! 

This was an easy dish to divide in half for just my hubby and I. May add a bit more BBQ sauce next time. Delish!
