Chocolate Snowball Cookies

butter, softened

brown sugar

egg, room temperature

2% milk

vanilla extract

all-purpose flour

baking cocoa

baking powder

salt

baking soda

Confectioners' sugar

In a large bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Add the egg, milk and vanilla; mix well. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking powder, salt and baking soda; gradually add to creamed mixture. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Shape into 1-in. balls; place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° until tops are crackled, 7-8 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool completely. Roll in confectioners' sugar.

I'm a volunteer Field Editoe for Taste of Hime and I love testing new recipes.  My 12 year old daughter and her friend and I made these today.  They were not hard to prepare.  We got just over 3 dozen small cookies so I'm not sure how they got 6 dozen as indicated by the recipe.  I didn't try as I cannot eat gluten but the girls and my other daughter thought they were just OK.  They all thought they weren't sweet enough even though they were rolled in the icing sugar.  Although they'll happily eat the batch we made,  The recipe is not on their "must make again list"

I am so glad to find this recipe-in the process of moving it was packed! It is one of my family favorites and has been in my Christmas baking aresenal for years. I think the trick is to make sure all ingredients are at room temperature and to watch very carefully as not to overbake! They always turn out rich and soft inside, with a delicate texture and buttery chocolate flavor. Not too sweet, they are a nice departure from the over the top sugary treats this time of year. I have also added some instant espresso powder to the milk in the past, it enhances the chocolate flavor even more.  Don’t be afraid of the reviews, it is an elegant cookie that is worth making.

Easy to make but only makes 3 dozen . Very bland chocolate taste. Maybe if you used white sugar it would be better. Probably won't make again.

The quality of the cocoa you use can make or break a receipt like this...avoid generic or Hershey's cocoa, and get the good stuff.  More expensive, but better than going to all the work (and expensive) to make cookies that don't taste good!

Loved them. I am not a real chocolate fan, so was not sure I should make them. But time ran out needed a cookie fast. My husband and i loved them. Didn't change the recipe but think next time I will not let them completely cool before adding confectioner sugar.

After reading the reviews, I was skeptical to try this recipe, but boy am I glad I did.  These are neither dry nor tasteless.  They do melt in your mouth and are extremely delicate.  My family will have these devoured before the weekend is out!!

I increased the sugar to 1 cup and added a couple tablespoons of milk to even it out.  It didn't make anywhere near 6 dozen, but I made mine the size of munchkins.

I threw them away too.  They weren't sweet at all.  Very bad recipe, which is unusual for Taste Of Home.  Very disappointed.

Why dont you people follow the recipe properly! They are wonderful!

when i made them they were kind of dry. i wonder if i put to much dry stuff in it. otherwise it is very tasty. kind of has a donut texture to it. good with milk. :-)

interesting recipe, but tasteless and bitter.  If you add real suger to sweeten it, they're hard as a brick.  However if you insert some peanut butter chips, it's an interesting combination and definitely helps.  This recipe needs help.  The flavor is not good.  I even inserted a slice of banana, covered it, was good but still no cigar.The only thing I'd do before tossing in the trash is use them as a trifle bowl additive.  I think it would definitely be a good contrast to the sweetness of cool whip and pudding as the cookie itself although bland has a good chocolate punch to it.

These were fun and simple to make, my kind of recipe.   It's a soft chewy cookie with just the right amount of sweetness.

This recipe reminds me of the recipes that my grandmother used to bring over every holiday.  Very comforting to know.

I used margerine instead of butter and thought these cookies turned out WONDERFUL.  The only thing I didn't like was that the next day - the powdered sugar had melted and made the cookies look gross, but they still tasted great.  The powdered sugar mess was probably my error though.  I will make these again!

My son and I just made these and they were wonderfully easy and quick to throw together. The taste was deliciously fudgy!

I made these for Christmas but they did not go over well! They were easy to make but everyone thought that they were bland or tasted a little funny. I won't be making these again =( On the bright side, they were soft and held the powdered sugar really well
