Chocolate Trifle

chocolate fudge cake mix (regular size)

chocolate pudding mix

coffee

carton (12 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed

Heath candy bars (1.4 ounces each), crushed

Bake cake according to package directions. Cool. Prepare pudding according to package directions; set aside.

Crumble cake; reserve 1/2 cup. Place half of the remaining cake crumbs in the bottom of a 4-1/2- or 5-qt. trifle dish or decorative glass bowl.

Layer with half of the coffee, half of the pudding, half of the whipped topping and half of the crushed candy bars. Repeat the layers of cake, coffee, pudding and whipped topping.

Combine remaining crushed candy bars with reserved cake crumbs; sprinkle over top. Refrigerate 4-5 hours before serving.

<p>This is a delicious recipe as is. I have also made it with a brownie mix and used coffee in the mix instead of the water. Layered as per these directions. We called it "Death By Chocolate" - what a way to go!! :)</p>

We make this recipe for every family gathering.  I omit the coffee, but I would like to try the recipe as written sometime. Since there is almond in the Heath bars and my niece is allergic to nuts, we recently revised the recipe.   In place of the crushed Heath bars, I added crushed Oreo cookies.  Both recipes are equally delicious!

I found this recipe in TOH years ago.  I made it and took it to work.  Since then, I'm expected to bring it whenever we get together.  I use Heath chips instead of the bars and always make it the night before.  It is always a hit!!  Thanks for a great recipe.

I found this recipe years ago. It was a favorite at the church as well as family parties. It's still one of my go to desserts. So easy and absolutely delicious!

This was a good trifle, but my family wasn't blown away so I probably won't make it again.  They have other TOH dessert recipes they LOVE.  However, this was very simple to make and would be great for a potluck.

I made this trifle for thanksgiving, it was amazing! Instead of the heath bars I used toffee symphony bars because they are my favorite, but I'm sure this would be good with just about any candy bar! I also beat cream cheese and a little powdered sugar into my pudding because I like it a little more rich :) I can't wait to make this again!

<p>I made this again yesterday for a neighborhood event, and it was a huge success.  I made it all sugar-free (Pillsbury SF cake mix), SF pudding, SF Cool Whip, and SF Russell Stover toffee squares.  It brought rave reviews!</p>

We have made this for my daughter's birthday and her graduation. We are making it again for her birthday this year. It is always a hit and the first dessert gone.

This is my son's fiance's FAVORITE dessert & the one she asks for on her birthday EVERY YEAR!  I have also taken this to several potlucks & everyone wants the recipe, & the dish comes back home almost licked clean! If the cake doesn't come out  perfect, no big deal, since it gets broken up anyway.  A fun recipe for little ones to help assemble also.

I used raspberry hot chocolate and mixed it in the pudding instead of coffee. I also used heavy whipping cream to make my own cool whip.

Was asked to make a trifle for a funeral dinner at my church.    I made it as per the recipe but did use the bagged Heath chips as well.   I had a bit of each ingredient left and made a sampling for myself…and was not disappointed!!  Wonderful fusion of flavors.   Lovely presentation in a trifle bowl.  Will definitely make this again!

Made this recipe for potluck and folks went back for seconds and thirds. And I just made a sugar free version for diabetic friends, using all sugar free ingredients.  This is so simple and so yummy.

I serve this all the time!!!!!!  Hit at every party.  I omit the coffee and have used snickers, milk chocolate chips or hersheys cut into pieces and even drizzled it with carmel or chocolate syrup!!!!  It is awesome.

Have made this recipe many times.  Always a huge hit.  I substitute brownies for the cake (cut into one inch squares).  I also use chocolate chips as not everyone cares for the heath bars, and I omit the coffee.  Also, side a little food coloring in the whipped cream for the holidays.  I did pink for Easter. This is an extremely easy and delicious dessert.  Enjoy!

Wow!  What a find!  It can actually be made using all sugar-free ingredients, inclluding the new Pillsbury sugar-free cake mix, and substituting chopped nuts for the Heath Bar.

I made this at least twice, then couldn't find the receipe but it is definitely a 5 star!  Quickly and not messy.

This is my favorite company desert.  Everyone loves it.  I have even made it in individual clear plastic cups for a crowd.  I highly recommend trying this wonderful desert!

This was awesome!  I made this for a church potluck and received MANY compliments.  I used Starbuck's coffee, cut the cake into cubes for the bottom layers, and just used cake crumbs for the topping.  Yummy!
