Step 2

In a medium-large saucepan or stockpot, sauté the chopped onions in the olive oil until they are translucent.

Step 5

Add diced ham and sauté until it is browned on all sides.

Pour in 1 cup of water and the bone broth. Prepare the beans while it comes to a boil.

Drain all of the beans in a colander and pour 1/3 of them into a separate bowl.

Add 1/2 cup of water to the beans in the bowl and smoosh with a potato masher until it becomes pasty.

Step 17

Pour all of the beans (the mashed and the unmashed ones) in the pot. Stir well.

Step 20

Add the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper and give it a good stir.

Step 23

Let this mixture simmer 1/2 hour to an hour—or whenever you’re ready to eat.

Step 26

Scoop it into bowls and sprinkle it with some parsley to make it pretty.
