Wash, clean, hull and cut (half or quarter) strawberries.

In a medium bowl, combine berries with sugar. Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.

Store covered in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight.

Grew up eating strawberrys, fresh from the garden, with cream from our cow and a little sugar. You don't need sugar if the berrys are really sweet but it's definately more fun. These days I throw garden fresh berrys in the blender with a touch of sugar (it pulls out the juice) and just a touch of vanilla and serve it over icecream. It stores well and like a good stew just gets better for a bit of fridge time, the berrys are acidic enough that 2 or 3 days are no worry and it stores well for a short time in the freezer. I'm going to have to try freezing whole strawberrys with my vacuum packer, I would never have thought of doing that if I hadn't read it here

Angie  - sugar is not inherently “bad for your blood”. Too much sugar or an excess amount of sugar can pose health risks for certain individuals. The key is moderation. A tablespoon of sugar for a pound of strawberries isn’t  going to be “bad for your blood”, unless of course your diabetic or you just inhaled a 1/2 dozen Krispy Kremes &amp; washed it down with a large coke.

I was looking for some miracle; not an advocate for living unhealthy

Try adding in a touch of milk with the sugar and strawberries. Best after 12-24 hrs. My kids grew up eating them this way. I made them without milk this summer only to be told they are much better when I make them the "right" way with a bit of milk. (Mind you the kids are not so little anymore! 13 to 24 yrs)

Takes much more than 1 tablespoon of sugar to sweeten a pound of tart strawberries. Sounds good in theory just not very realistic.

I'm resorting to Korean Strawberries... really sweet and juicy. I can't really find sweet locally produced strawberries in Malaysia too.

Was out of sugar so used some local straight from the hive (through a filter) to the jar local honey which added a slightly different sweetness but was down right delicious and better for us than simple sugar.   When mixed with ice cream all flavors seemed to be enhanced.  Thinking of trying a little maple syrup next?
