Salted Caramel Apple Crumble

sugar

granny smith apples (peeled, cored and sliced)

lemon juice

Heat sugar and water in a small saucepan over medium heat to melt the sugar.

Continue cooking and swirling sugar until it turns amber in color.

Whisk in sea salt and heavy cream. The mixture will bubble up violently briefly.

Continue whisking until sauce is smooth.

Stir in butter and vanilla. Set aside.

For the caramel sauce-

Combine all ingredients together using a stand mixer. The mixture will be crumbly but stay together when squeezed. Set aside.

For the crumble-

Prepare apples and toss in lemon juice.

Cook apples in a large cast-iron skillet over medium-low heat in butter to draw out moisture.

Sprinkle with salt to draw out all the moisture possible.

Drain apples and place back into skillet. This process should take about 5-7 minutes of cooking.

Pour 3/4 of prepared caramel sauce into the apples and stir gently.

Top with the crumble topping.

Bake at 350 for 20 minutes and serve with remaining caramel sauce.

Easy Apple Crisp

granulated sugar (depending on how sweet your apples are)

cinnamon

(70 grams) rolled oats

(94 g) all-purpose flour

(75 grams) brown sugar, lightly packed

⅓ cup (76 grams) unsalted butter, melted

In a 9&#8243; square or round baking dish, toss together all the filling ingredients.

In a medium bowl, mix together the oats, flour and brown sugar. Add in the melted butter and stir until all is moistened. Sprinkle the streusel evenly over the filling.

Bake for 35-40 minutes until the apples are tender and bubbling.

Oh boy this was the best recipe yet for apple crisp!! So good I've decided to make two batches!! And I must say I read some comments beforehand and sure glad I did! I had only "quick oats" on hand and saw you advised a reader to add one more tbsp of butter! Very YUMMY!! TY.

This was a lovely apple crisp, not too much sugar so it doesn't take away the little bit of tartness to the apples. As well as a delicious crumble topping. This is going to be my go-to when cooking apple crisp.

This is delicious!  I'm a terrible baker so I followed the recipe exactly and it came out wonderful!  I used gala apples and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  Soooooo good!  It's not overly sweet and the crumble adds a great texture.  Next time I have extra apples, I'll make this again!

I loved this recipe!  The topping was great, I usually add nuts but the crunch was great without them.

Preheat oven.

Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly spray an 8 or 9-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.

Combine dry ingredients.

In a medium bowl combine all purpose flour, brown sugar, salt, baking powder and cinnamon. Whisk to combine.

Add melted butter.

Add the melted butter and stir with a fork until crumbly.

Crumble Topping

Combine filling ingredients.

In a large bowl, combine apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch (or flour if using) and ground cinnamon.

Add to baking dish.

Transfer apple mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer.

Sprinkle on crumble topping.

Sprinkle crumble mixture evenly over the top of the filling.

Bake.

Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until bubbling and golden brown on top.

Cool and serve.

Let cool for 15 minutes before serving with ice cream if desired.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Core, peel and dice the apples into 1/2-inch chunks. Combine the apples with the lemon juice, cornstarch, granulated sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons of the cinnamon, ginger, and allspice in a large bowl and toss until well coated. Pour into a round 9-inch pie pan, 9 x 9 inch baking dish or 7 x 11 baking dish.

Make the topping: In a medium bowl, add the flour, brown sugar, the remaining 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, baking powder and kosher salt. Mix together with a fork. Pour in the melted butter while mixing with the fork until a crumbly mixture forms. Use your fingers to sprinkle the crumbles evenly over the filling.

Apple Crumble Recipe (No Oats)

apple (or 4 medium-sized apples or 3 cups chopped apples)

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon ((cinnamon powder))

nutmeg powder

whole wheat flour

cold butter ((unsalted)

whole wheat flour (- 120 grams)

sugar (or powdered sugar, 100 grams)

vanilla extract (or ½ teaspoon vanilla essence)

Firstly rinse the apples in running water. Drain all the water. Then peel them. Removed the seeds and pith. Chop all the apples in 1-inch cubes.

Take the apples in a mixing bowl.

Add sugar, ground cinnamon, lemon juice, whole wheat flour and ground nutmeg powder (optional) to the apples.

Mix thoroughly and set aside.

Grease a baking tray or pan evenly with some softened butter. Set aside.

Making apple filling

Chop 75 grams of cold butter in cubes. In a mixing bowl take the cubes. If using about 1 inch pre-cut cubes, you will need about ⅓ cup of the butter cubes.

Add castor sugar or powdered sugar. Avoid using granulated sugar in your recipes, as it tends not to dissolve during baking, resulting in an undesirable granular texture on the top layer.

Add vanilla extract. Then add whole wheat flour, baking powder and a pinch of salt.

With a pastry cutter cut the butter in the flour till you get a sandy breadcrumb like texture in the flour. You have the option to combine the butter and flour using either a knife, a stand mixer with a paddle attachment or your fingers. In case the butter starts to melt, consider placing the mixture in the fridge for a few minutes.

Making streusel stuffing

Preheat the oven for 15 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius/356 degrees Fahrenheit.

Place the apples stuffing in the greased baking tray or pan.

Layer the apple neatly in the pan.

With a spoon sprinkle the streusel topping evenly all over the apples.

Sprinkle in such a way that you get an even layer of the streusel stuffing on the apples.

Layering

Place the baking tray or pan in the preheated oven and bake at 180 degrees Celsius/356 degrees Fahrenheit for 40 minutes or until golden on top.

Remove the baking tray or pan from the oven when you see a golden crust on the top. Various ovens have different temperatures, so keep a check while baking.

Baking apple crumble

Allow the Apple Crumble to reach a warm temperature before serving.

It pairs well with ice cream, custard, or whipped cream.

If there are leftovers, refrigerate them and warm in the oven before serving again.

Make the topping: In a food processor, place the flours, oats, walnuts, sugar, coconut oil, cinnamon, and salt and pulse until crumbly. Add the water if needed.
