Bacon makes this simple fried cabbage crave-worthy. As the cabbage cooks in the pan, it wilts, turns tender, and becomes sweet. White cabbage is our favorite for this, but other cabbage varieties will work. Keep in mind, though, that Napa cabbage will release more moisture and won’t brown as nicely in the pan. We love using peppered bacon for extra flavor, but your favorite type of bacon will also work.

Seriously Good Bacon Fried Cabbage

peppered bacon, diced (3 ounces)

white cabbage, core removed and chopped (10 cups)

garlic, minced

red pepper flakes

fine sea salt

Dijon mustard

apple cider vinegar

black pepper

This was amazing. Do NOT skip the Dijon and cider vinegar. We added creole seasoning (the green bottle - we put it on almost every dish we cook!). Highly recommended. I liked this more than the filet mignons I made for my wife’s bday. I love veggies BUT I love steak too so it was crazy. Also, bake your thick cut bacon at 400 for 13-16 minutes, flipping half way. Super easy/super clean (we never splatter bacon grease any more). Cheers to the chefs! Thank you for a delicious cabbage recipe.

Irish Fried Cabbage and Bacon is a simple recipe that's pan-fried in bacon grease and loaded up with bacon pieces and onion and seasoned with brown sugar, salt, and pepper.

Irish Fried Cabbage with Bacon

brown sugar (packed)

Cook bacon in a deep cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until crisp, about 4 to 6 minutes. Use a slotted spatula to remove the bacon pieces and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.

Add the diced onion to the bacon drippings and cook until translucent, about 1 to 2 minutes.

Add shredded cabbage to the pan and toss to coat. Add in brown sugar, salt, and pepper and cook until cabbage is tender, about 5 to 7 minutes.

Add the bacon back to the cabbage and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes. Serve hot and season with additional salt and pepper if desired.

This is a delicious and super easy dish to make with only a few ingredients. It is flavorful and ready in less than 30 minutes!

Easy Bacon Fried Cabbage

bacon

onion (finely sliced)

Kosher salt (or

black pepper (or

oregano

smoked paprika

garlic (minced)

green onion

Place a large cast iron skillet or non-stick deep pan over medium-high heat. Add bacon pieces in one layer and cook until crispy. If needed, cook in batches. Once cooked, remove from pan and set aside on a plate.

Discard the grease, leaving about 2-3 tablespoons.

Add the sliced onion and cook for about 2-3 minutes, until soft.

Add the chopped cabbage, salt, pepper, oregano, and smoked paprika. Toss and cook until tender, but still a little crispy, for about 15 minutes. Toss and taste, if needed reduce heat to medium-low, cover the pan and cook cabbage for 10 more minutes, until the preferred tenderness is achieved.

Add the garlic and bacon, cook cabbage for additional 3-4 minutes.

Serve immediately, garnish with chopped green onions if desired.
