This is the BEST Chili Recipe! Made with bacon (and the option to omit if necessary) and ground beef and  simmered on the stove for just 30 minutes, this is my family&#x27;s go-to cold weather comfort food. It&#x27;s even better when paired with a side of buttermilk cornbread!

The Best Chili Recipe (Award Winning!)

bacon

yellow onion (diced (about 1 cup))

red pepper (diced)

garlic (minced (about 1 Tablespoon))

beef

brown sugar

Tablespoon chili powder²

Tablespoon ancho chili powder²

paprika

cumin

onion powder

black pepper

salt

cayenne pepper³

beef broth (295 milliliters)

dark red kidney beans (lightly rinsed and drained (425 grams))

black beans (lightly rinsed and drained (425))

14.5 oz can diced fire roasted tomatoes (undrained (411 grams))

7- oz can fire roasted green chilis (198 grams)

tomato paste (66 grams)

Worcestershire sauce

Preferred toppings (particularly sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, and corn chips)

Place chopped (uncooked) bacon in a large pot or Dutch oven and cook over medium heat until crisp and cooked through. Remove bacon to a paper towel lined plate and drain all but 1 1/2 Tablespoons of grease.

Add onion and pepper and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes.

Add garlic and cook until fragrant (about 30 seconds).

Add beef, breaking apart with a spatula as you cook. Once meat is partially (about 50%) browned, add sugar and all spices (chili powders, paprika, cumin, onion powder, black pepper, salt, cayenne pepper) and stir well.

Add all remaining ingredients -- beef broth, beans, tomatoes, tomato paste, chilis, and Worcestershire sauce -- and your cooked bacon and stir well.

Bring to a boil and cook 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently.

Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally. Simmer for 30 minutes to allow flavor to really develop. 

Serve with preferred toppings (sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, and corn chips are a must!)

Ingredients
5 strips uncooked bacon chopped*

1 Tablespoon ancho chili powder**
1 ½ teaspoons smoked paprika
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon onion powder
3/4 teaspoons ground black pepper
½ teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper***
1 1/4 cup beef broth 295ml
15 oz dark red kidney beans lightly rinsed and drained (425g)
15 oz black beans lightly rinsed and drained (425)
14.5 oz diced fire roasted tomatoes undrained (411g)
1 7- oz can fire roasted green chilis 198g
1/4 cup tomato paste 66g
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Preferred toppings particularly sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, and corn chips

Instructions
Place chopped (uncooked) bacon in a large pot or Dutch oven and cook over medium heat until crisp and cooked through. Remove bacon to a paper towel lined plate and drain all but 1 1/2 Tablespoons of grease.

Notes
*For best flavor, DO NOT OMIT THE BACON. However, as someone who spent 23 years not eating bacon I wanted to include tips for those of you who might have the same restrictions. if you wish to make this recipe without bacon you *can* do so by skipping the first step, heating 1 1/2 Tablespoons of oil over medium heat, and then beginning from step 2. On the other hand, if you want additional bacon for garnishing, cook it now and reserve.
**You can substitute one chili powder for the other and use just traditional chili powder or just ancho chili powder, but I personally like the blend of the two.
*** This gives the chili a mild spice, if you like more heat increase to 1/4 teaspoon for a moderate spice. Add additional cayenne pepper at your own risk!

This chili is AH-MAZING!!! I will definitely be making it again. I did pinto beans and garbanzo beans (I am a huge believer that all beans belong in chili, lol) instead of the kidney beans (although I would have used them if I had of had them when I made this), but other than that I did it by the recipe and loved every bite! 10/10.

So I'm not a huge chili person - to be frank I've never cooked it before. So this was a first for me and my boyfriend. And the end result - WE LOVED IT. We did tweak it a little because we both personally hate beans and consulted the reviews below to drain the meat before adding the tomato paste but it's a hit. I've never in my life made such a great tasty and heart meal before. I just tried it. I think it is wonderful. I was really light on the salt when I added it. Not too spicy. It gives you more room for the others eating it to add more of salt pepper or chili powder to taste. I want to add green bell pepper next time I make it.  And there will be a next time.  Maybe I will double it so some came go in the freezer. Chili & spaghetti always freezes great

I made it like it said and came out delicious.

Great recipe!  I made a few changes, though.   I'm Hungarian and we love paprika so I tripled the amount.  I also used more garlic.  I served it with garlic toast and my family loved it!

Loved how easy this was to make but it just didn’t have enough going on with it. I honestly thought it was very bland and almost had a consistency of hot dog chili. I would not make this again!!

The recipe was bland. The next time I try it, I will increase the seasoning. I changed the order of instructions because ground meat should always be cooked before adding a liquid or paste. I also had to add a small can of tomato sauce. If not, I would have had dry pot of beans a meat.  Thanks for sharing your recipe.

The Best Chili Recipe and everyone&#x27;s favorite comfort food, this flavorful and delicious chili recipe is made with ground beef, bacon, and red kidney beans simmered in a simple, spice-filled tomato broth. broth ((beef, bone, chicken, vegetable)

Cook the bacon - Add the chopped bacon to a large Dutch oven set over medium-high heat. Once the bacon is hot and sizzling, reduce heat to medium-low and cover with a lid. Cook low and slow, stirring occasionally. Once the bacon pieces are golden, remove the lid and allow your bacon pieces to cook until the desired doneness is reached. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cooked bacon to a plate lined with paper towels and set aside. Reserve 2 tablespoons of leftover bacon grease.

Brown the ground beef - Over medium-high heat, add 1 tablespoon of reserved bacon grease back to your Dutch oven and add the ground beef. Brown the ground beef and season with salt and pepper. Transfer beef to a clean plate and set aside.

Cook the onions - Add the remaining tablespoon of bacon grease to your pot and set over medium heat. Add the onions and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until soft and translucent. Sprinkle with salt, cumin, garlic powder, chili powder, and sugar. Mix well to combine. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1-2 minutes over medium heat, stirring continuously. Add the diced tomatoes and tomato sauce and bring to a simmer.

Return the beef and add some beans - As soon as your onion and tomato mixture reaches a simmer, return the bacon and ground beef to the pot. Stir in the kidney beans and add 2-3 cups of low-sodium broth (beef, bone, chicken, or vegetable broth). Mix well to combine.

Simmer - Allow your chili to simmer for 15-20 minutes before serving. Add additional salt, pepper, or spices, if needed, and add additional broth if your chili is too thick.

Serve - Serve with all your favorite toppings including sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, and Tobasco sauce, if desired.

Come home to a warming bowl of this Chili. This delicious recipe is great served with rice or on its own for a lighter lunch.

Add the cumin, oregano, paprika, cayenne pepper, and tomato paste and cook, stirring about 2 minutes.

Add the tomatoes, beef stock, and beans. Season to taste with salt and pepper, stir in the parsley, and bring to a simmer over low heat.

Cook, stirring occasionally, until the chili thickens slightly, about 1-1⁄2 hours.
