Black Pepper Chicken recipe that&#039;s better than Panda Express! Intensely flavored black pepper sauce with crisp pepper chicken and crunchy veggies. You&#039;ll fall in love with this dish after one bite!

Black Pepper Chicken (gluten-free, paleo, whole30 if modified)

chicken breasts (dice to 1-inch cubes)

tbsp coconut aminos

¼ tsp coarse sea salt

½ tsp baking soda

red bell pepper (dice to 1-inch cubes)

celery stalks (sliced on diagonal, about 3-4 medium length stalks)

3.5 oz yellow onion (diced, about 1 small onion)

tsp black pepper (see notes)

½ tsp Sichuan peppercorn powder (optional, see notes)

coconut aminos

chicken stock (or vegetable stock)

avocado oil

tapioca starch (or potato starch)

Coarse sea salt

Marinate

Slice the chicken breasts to 1-inch cubes and in a bowl add and mix well with the seasonings from coconut aminos to garlic powder. Set aside in the fridge while you prepare other items.

Vegetable

Prepare the bell pepper, celery, and onion in one bowl.

Sauce

In a separate bowl, mix and stir-well the black pepper sauce.

Preheat

In a 10 to 12-inch saute pan, add the avocado oil and preheat over medium heat for about 3 minutes. Test the temperature with a wooden chopstick, if it shows bubbles around the chopstick when inserting it into the oil, the temperature is hot enough. You can also use a thermometer to reach 350F/177C.

Coating

In the meantime, lightly coat the chicken with the starch. Toss well.

Pan-fry

Add the chicken pieces one-by-one into the pan. Turn up the heat to medium-high. Pan fry the chicken in a single layer without disturbing for about 3 minutes on the first side. Then use a chopstick or tong to cook the flip side for about 2 minutes. Transfer them out to a separate plate.

Saute

You should have some oil left in the skillet, if not, add 1 more tablespoon of oil. Saute the pepper, celery, and onion with 2 pinches of salt over medium-high heat for 1 minute.

Combine

Return the chicken to the pan and pour-in the black pepper sauce. Toss to coat the sauce over for 1 minute.

Serve

Turn off the heat. Transfer the food to a serving plate. Taste and season with more freshly ground black pepper or salt, if desired. Serve hot.

Worcestershire sauce

Black pepper (Ground (suggest add 1/4 teaspoon and to your taste))

Peel and mince 5 cloves of garlic.

Cut ½  small onion (2 oz) into pieces.

After that, add 1 can of beef broth (14.5 oz), 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, ½ tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, ½ tablespoon of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, and ¾ teaspoon of black pepper to a container and mix it well.

Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil into a non-stick pan; stir-fry minced garlic and chopped onion for a little bit (2 minutes). And add ⅛ teaspoon of salt.

Pour the mixture from step 3 into the pan, cook, and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Keep stirring the sauce until it&#39;s thickened.

Hong Kong Style Chicken with Black Pepper Sauce

Remove the bones in the chicken. Rinse under water and pat dry with paper towels. Cut a few slits on the thick part of the meat side, so the chicken can be lay flat more and can be cooked faster and more even (do not cut over the skin).

In a large bowl, stir the marinade together (except for oil). Add the chicken and massage them with the marinade for a minute. Add the vegetable oil and mix again. Stack them on top of each other in the bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and transfer to the fridge for 4 hours (or overnight).

For the roux, in a small saucepan over low heat, warm the oil, about 2 minutes. Break the bay leaf into half and add to the oil. When the oil is hot, add half the flour and stir to mix. When it starts to foam, add the rest of the flour and stir until smooth. Once it starts to boil, turn off the heat and continue to stir for one more minute. Add unsalted butter and give a quick stir. The roux should look a bit like pancake batter. Transfer to a heatproof bowl. Set aside to cool to room temperature.

Cook the chicken in WOK: In a wok or large skillet over medium heat, warm 2 tablespoon oil. Add chicken thighs skin-side down and cook until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Flip and cook until cook through, about 3 minutes. Transfer the chicken to a plate and set aside. Cook the chicken in OVEN: Preheat the oven to 400˚F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Lightly brush with vegetable oil or cooking spray. Place the marinade chicken thighs on top and lightly brush the chicken skin with a little bit more vegetable oil. Bake for 25 minutes or until cook through.

In the same skillet, remove most of the grease, except for 1 tablespoon. Add garlic and shallot and saute for 3 minutes. Add onion and cook for another 3 minutes. Add 1 teaspoon black pepper and give a quick mix. Add tomato paste and stir for 2 minutes. Add rice wine and stir for 30 seconds. Then, pour in chicken broth and water. Bring to a boil, stirring often. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 2 minutes. Stir the roux mixture and add 1 tablespoon to the sauce. Stir until thickened slightly. When it’s boiling again, add sugar, Worcestershire sauce and dark soy sauce. Taste & adjust the seasoning.

Transfer the chicken thighs to serving plates and top with a big scoop of black pepper sauce. Pour the rest of the sauce into a small bowl. Serve the chicken along with hot steamed rice, French fries, or roasted potatoes.
