This Panko-Crusted Tilapia is super tasty. It has a combination of fresh lemon, garlic, ginger and other fragrant spices, including paprika and crushed red pepper, that also gives it some heat.

Panko-Crusted Tilapia

unsalted butter (melted)

garlic powder

tbsp lemon juice

breadcrumbs

dry mustard

tsp black pepper

nutmeg

tsp ground ginger

paprika

tsp crushed red pepper flakes

olive oil

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a medium-sized, shallow dish, combine melted butter, garlic powder and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Set aside.

In another medium-sized, shallow dish, combine Panko breadcrumbs and the rest of the dry seasonings. Mix well.

Gently coat each fillet with the butter mixture and then with the Panko mixture, taking care to coat with as much Panko coating as possible.

Heat olive oil over high heat in a non-stick, oven-safe skillet. Once oil and pan are hot, add the Panko-coated fillets. Pour the remaining lemon-butter mixture over and around the fish and carefully pat as much of the remaining Panko coating on the fish as possible. Throw in a few thinly sliced lemons to brown as well (if you wish, for garnish and added lemon flavor). Heat on high until the bottom side turns golden brown and the butter starts to brown, about 2-4 minutes. Careful not to burn the butter or the fish.

Once the bottom side is golden brown, carefully flip the fillets over and place the skillet into the oven. Bake until the fish breaks apart easily with the twist of a fork, about 10-12 minutes, depending on the size of the fillets. Careful not to overcook at this point.

Remove from the oven and serve immediately. Garnish with a slice of lemon, if you'd like. I do.

Crispy Parmesan Tilapia recipe

Season tilapia fillets with salt.

In one shallow dish, egg and milk. Whisk well. In another shallow dish, place flour. In the third shallow dish, stir breadcrumbs with Parmesan.

Dip each tilapia fillet in flour first, then egg mixture, then breadcrumb mixture.

Heat up oil in large frying pan over medium heat. Fry each tilapia fillet on both sides until golden brown. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Pan-Fried Tilapia

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and cumin. Whisk to combine.

Season tilapia filets generously with salt and pepper, then dip each in flour mixture, shaking off any excess flour. Place on a clean plate or baking sheet.

In a large, nonstick skillet over medium heat, heat oil. Add 2 filets and cook 3 to 4 minutes per side, until crust is golden and fish flakes easily with a fork. Repeat with remaining filets.

Serve immediately with cilantro and lime wedges.

Great recipe, definitely up the spices. I also used a little but of Colombian corn flour for the crust. I also made a white wine, olive oil and garlic sauce to fry the fish rather than just the oil. I served with yellow squash and white rice.

Best way to make Talapia taste great. I used lots of Tajin Clasico with lime seasoning.  Nice and crunchy and  lots of flavor..  i used Kirkland frozen Talapia and thawed before cooking.

Great result! This was simple and wonderful flavor.  I halfed the recipe for two large filets, and there was enough to do a couple more.  I liked the flavor, but I’m willing to half the flour and keep seasoning the same for a full batch.  Nice texture.

Turned out really good. I’ve pan fried every fish but tilapia and I was pleasantly surprised! My son loved it!

Loved the fish!  I fried the 2 pounds of fresh tilapia in Sciabica’s lemon olive oil and regular olive oil.  My husband said it was very good, so we’ll be eating this again.

Crunchy Breaded Pan Seared Tilapia

tilapia filets

olive oil (separated)

tsp kosher salt

panko breadcrumbs

smoked paprika

avocado (diced)

pico de gallo

lime

In a small bowl mix together the pico de gallo and diced avocado. Cover and refrigerate while you make the tilapia.

Avocado Salsa

Drizzle tilapia with 1 tablespoon olive oil, season with salt and pepper and sprinkle panko crumbs on top, pressing gently to adhere. Sprinkle smoked paprika over the breaded tilapia. Turn and repeat on other side.

Heat remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. Add tilapia filets and saute for 3 minutes, then carefully flip filets over and cook other side for 3 minutes.

Remove pan from heat, and transfer fish to serving plates. If desired, serve over steamed rice and top with avocado pico de gallo and fresh lime wedges.
