I gave this recipe 5 Stars because it is an easy recipe but more importantly, I read ahead to all the reviews.  
I added 1/2 tsp. each of onion & garlic powder and 1 tbsp. of dried Basil. I like my dough seasoned.

Baking time I did: 450 degrees for 5 min. and then 395 degrees for 12-15 min.  depending on your oven.  Perfect recipe!

I made this for dinner and used pizza dough from pillsbury.  The recipie was easy except I probably overstuffed it.  From reading reviews I turned the heat down to 425 and in 10 minutes the bottom was burnt and the top did not even cook.  Needless to say, the temp should be around 350-400 about 15-20 min and you should flip it over half way through cooking.  I am going to try in my air fryer next time.  But for anyone making this very simple recipie, you will have to adjust the temperature and time.

Worst Recipe ever. Almost burnt my kitchen down. Do not do it. Followed it exactly as written and watched the video.

I really liked fillings. That said, the temp was horribly wrong. My first two were cooked at 500 as recipe specified, at 15 minutes, bottom was burned, also corners. Next batch at 450 was better, another batch at 400 middle wasn't quite hot. I am thinking 425??

I made these mostly as written, but added a combo spice mixture of dried basil, oregano & garlic powder both inside and sprinkled on top. They were really good! I do think the cooking temp or time might be a little high (ours were a tad overdone at 20 min). And the pictures are a little misleading... I put a LOT more filling in, and they could have taken even more! Used 1 lb of store bought dough and got 3 calzone (recipe calls for 1.75 lb/4) and they were HUGE. Give it a try! Improvise a bit and watch the cook. Definitely a yummy dinner!

500 degrees is way too high. I only cooked mine for 10 min. minutes and they were ruined.

Me too! The kids and I were so excited to make these with our fav pizza places dough. Smoke alarm went off at 15 min when I took out the calzones. The bottoms were black and Saturday night dinner was ruined! So disappointed! I should have read the reviews before I believed the recipe title!

This recipe did not work. I used store bought pizza dough and they would not roll into circles. If you make this, store bought pizza dough will NOT work!!!! Very unhappy.

This was actually hard and messy for me I didn’t have a rolling pin. Put this in for 20 minutes on 400 degrees not 500. I saw a lot of comments saying their food burned. Turned out delicious!

My daughter and I made the pepperoni calzones and I must say it was very easy and very tasty.  We also substituted the pepperoni for buffalo tenders and they too were delicious with a side of blue cheese dressing.

Easy calzones make for a fun lunch or dinner. These stuffed pizza pockets are filled with all the classic toppings - meat, cheese and your choice of sauce.

Preheat the oven to 475 °F. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper or spray it with oil.

Divide the dough into 8 equally sized pieces. Roll each piece into a 1/4&quot; thick circle.

Place the filling on half of each circle (pizza sauce, ricotta, pepperoni, salami and shredded mozzarella). Make sure to leave the edges clean to allow for sealing the calzone. Fold the side over the filling and crimp the edges.

Place calzones on a baking sheet, leaving space apart. Cut a small vent on the top of each calzone. Brush the tops with oil and sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce,

Follow the Best Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe or Food Processor Pizza Dough recipe to prepare the dough. (This takes about 15 minutes to make and 45 minutes to rest.) After kneading, divide the dough into 8 equal parts. Brush the bottom of a container with olive oil, then brush the dough balls with olive oil on all sides and place them in the container. Cover the container and allow the dough to rise 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Meanwhile, make a double recipe of the Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce, but use 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder in place of the garlic clove (so 1/2 teaspoon garlic in all). One cup will be used in the calzone filling, and the remainder will be used as a dipping sauce.

Make the filling: Slice the mushrooms. Mince the garlic. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet, and sauté the mushrooms, basil, and 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt until soft, around 4 minutes. Add the garlic and stir; sauté for 1 minute. Add the pizza sauce and spinach and cook down until the liquid has mostly cooked out. Remove from the heat. Taste and add more salt if necessary. Stir to combine with the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Working dough 2 balls at a time, place the dough on a floured surface and gently press each into a roughly 5 to 6-inch circle (it&#8217;s helpful to measure to make sure it does not get too large). On one half of each dough circle, add a 1/3 cup of the filling mixture, making sure to leave 1/2 inch of space around the edge of the dough. Fold the other half of the dough over so that the calzone forms a half-moon shape. Crimp the edges together using a fork (we used a large serving fork). Use a spatula to transfer the calzones to a parchment lined baking sheet. Repeat for all 8 calzones, split between two baking sheets.

Beat the egg together with 1 tablespoon water and brush the egg wash onto the top of the calzones.

Bake the calzones until golden brown, about 10 minutes. Allow to cool, then serve with the remaining pizza sauce on the side.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Coat a sheet pan with cooking spray.

Divide the pizza dough into 3 or 4 pieces, depending on the size you want your calzones.

Roll the dough into 1/4 inch thick ovals or rectangles.

Place the sausage in a pan and cook according to package directions. Use a spatula to break up the cooked sausage into bite sized pieces.

Add the bell peppers to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes or until softened.

Spread 2 teaspoons of pizza sauce onto one side of each piece of dough. Top with 1/4 cup cheese.

Divide the sausage and pepper mixture evenly on top of the sauce. Top with pepperoni and an additional 1/4 cup of cheese.

Fold the dough over and pinch to seal the edges. Use a sharp knife to cut 2-3 slits into the top of each calzone.

Brush each calzone with the beaten egg.

Place the calzones on the sheet pan. Bake for 15-17 minutes or until golden brown.&nbsp;

Top with parsley, then serve immediately with remaining pizza sauce for dipping.

To prepare the calzone dough: in a bowl, combine the lukewarm water with the honey, and stir to dissolve. Sprinkle the yeast over top, and using a fork, gently mix the yeast into the honey water just until it begins to dissolve; set aside to allow the yeast to become foamy, about 8-10 minutes.

In the meantime, in another larger bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and Italian seasoning; once the yeast is active and foamy, pour the mixture into the flour, along with 2 tablespoons of the olive oil, and using a wooden spoon, mix together until a shaggy dough forms.

Turn the shaggy dough out onto a work surface, and knead for about 5-6 minutes, until smooth and elastic; then, add 2 tablespoons of the olive oil into a large, clean bowl, add the kneaded calzone dough into it, and turn it to coat in the oil. Wrap with plastic wrap and allow the dough to double for 1 hour, in a draft-free and warm area.

While the dough proofs, gather up and prep your filling ingredients to have organized and ready to make your filling.

To prepare your calzone filling, place a large pan or skillet over medium-high heat, and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil; once hot, add in the diced onion and saute for about 5-7 minutes, or until beginning to soften.

Add in the sliced mushrooms and the baby spinach, plus some salt and pepper, and saute together with the onion for about 7-8 minutes until the mushrooms and spinach are cooked and there is no longer any water/liquid left in the pan. Add the garlic and stir that in just until aromatic.

Spoon this mixture out onto a large plate and allow it to cool to room temp (use the fridge to expedite the process if needed); then, add the mixture into a bowl along with the ricotta and mozzarella cheese, and mix to combine well (check to see is additional salt and pepper are needed); set aside.

Once the calzone dough has doubled, punch it down and portion it out into 4 equal portions of dough (roughly 6 1/2 ounces). Form the dough into 4 round balls, place them onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, and cover with plastic wrap. Allow the dough balls to proof, once again, this time for 30 minutes.

While the dough proofs, preheat your oven to 450° degrees, and prepare a large baking sheet with parchment paper and a generous sprinkle of cornmeal (helps the calzones to not stick).

Once proofed, roll each dough ball into a circle that's roughly 8 inches; then, spoon a small amount of marinara sauce (about 2 tablespoons) onto the center of the dough, and add about 1/2 cup of the filling over the marinara, pressing gently to flatten it a bit. Fold the dough over top of the filling to create a semi-circle shape, pressing to seal and crimping the edges with your fingers (you can use a teeny amount of water along the edge to help seal the calzone).

Place the filled calzones onto the parchment lined and cornmeal dusted baking sheet, brush each with a touch of egg wash, and cut three, small slits into the tops of each calzone with a paring knife or kitchen scissors to allow steam to escape; place into the oven (middle rack) to bake for about 18 minutes, or until golden-brown and the baked through.

While the calzones bake, combine the 1 clove of pressed garlic with remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil; once the calzones are baked, brush each liberally with this delicious and aromatic garlic oil and sprinkle with a touch of grated parmesan as a garnish; allow to rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Serve the calzones while nice and hot, with a generous amount of extra marinara sauce on the side.

You will be presently surprised to learn that making homemade calzones is a lot easier than you think. They freeze wonderfully and are a great solution to that timeless question, "What do I pack for lunch"?

Combine the yeast, sugar and lukewarm water in a small bowl.

Stir with fork and set aside for about 5 minutes (it will begin to proof).

In the bowl of a stand mixer, measure and sift 1 cup of flour.

Add yeast mixture. Combine with wooden spoon until smooth.

Add the rest of the sifted flour (1½ cups), oil, and salt. Mix on medium speed using dough hook attachment until smooth and elastic (approximately 5 minutes). Alternately, you can knead by hand.

Place in a lightly greased bowl. Turn dough over ensuring the entire dough has a thin layer of oil. (I use about 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil).

Cover bowl with plastic wrap and let rise for approximately 40 minutes (will double in size).

How to make calzone dough:

Meanwhile, prepare your filling by adding about 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large saucepan. Stir fry the garlic, onion, mushrooms and spinach. Set aside to cool off slightly.

Combine this vegetable mixture with the ricotta and mozzarella. Mix thoroughly together.&nbsp;

Preheat oven to 400° F.

Pre-heat pizza stone (if using) or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Punch down dough and divide into 8 pieces. Knead each piece into a ball and then using a rolling pin, roll out your dough, on a lightly floured wooden board, to approx 4-5" circle.

Place about 1/2 cup of filling in the bottom half per calzone, making sure to not come within 1/2 inch of the edges.

Fold the dough over the filling and press to seal tightly.

Brush tops with olive oil. and sprinkle with dried oregano.

Make diagonal slits or prick the tops with a fork before baking allowing for the steam to escape.

Place calzones on a pre-heated pizza stone or on a parchment lined baking sheet.

Bake at 400°F for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. The bake time will depend on the size of your calzones.

Place on cooling rack.

2.wash and chop spinach, mushroom, and garlic, keep the ingredients ready.

4.Heat olive oil, add chopped garlic and let it sizzle for a minute.

5.Then, add chopped onion, cook for 2 mins till the onions turn translucent.

6.Add in sliced mushroom, saute and cook for 2 to 3 mins, till the mushrooms are cooked.

7.Add in chili flakes, pepper powder, and salt.

11.Spoon some mushroom and spinach filling to one corner.

12.Gently fold the dough and seal the corners using a fork.

13.Dust some flour onto the baking tray and place the calzone.

package Pillsbury refrigerated buttermilk biscuit dough (8 biscuits total)

Montery Jack cheese, shredded

mini pepperoni

egg, beaten

pizza sauce (served on the side for dipping)

parsley

grated Parmesan

Gently roll out buttermilk biscuit dough into circles about 1/4 of an inch thick.

Divide shredded cheese evenly between the biscuit rounds. 

Divide pepperoni evenly between the biscuit rounds. 

Fold biscuit rounds in half creating a half moon shape. 

Use a fork to seal the edges of the calzone. 

Then cut three slits in the top of each calzone. 

Bake for 16-18 minutes or until the biscuit dough is dark golden brown and crispy on all sides. 

Garnish with parsley and Parmesan and serve with pizza sauce.

Chicken Parmesan Calzone Recipe

6-7 fully cooked crispy chicken tenders, sliced (I like Tyson Crispy Chicken Strips)

Preheat the oven to 400 °F. If using frozen chicken tenders, cook them ahead of time according to the directions on the package. Slice into smaller strips and set aside.

Meanwhile, roll out the dough into a 12 inch circle, like you would pizza crust.

Choose one half, and spread 1/2 cup of pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a one inch border around the edge. Top the same half with 1 cup mozzarella cheese, all parmesan cheese, and chicken tenders.

Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to the opposite edge, forming a half moon shape. Pinch the ends together to seal.

Place calzone on a greased baking sheet and baste the top with melted butter. Use a knife to pierce three 1/2 inch slits in the top of the calzone. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove the calzone from the oven and top evenly (again leaving a 1 inch crust around the edges) with 1/4 cup pizza sauce and about 1/2 a cup of mozzarella cheese. Bake for an additional 10 minutes.

Remove from the oven, let cool for 5-7 minutes, and slice into strips for serving.

I have this in the oven right now. Was hungry for chicken parm, but had 2 bags of TJ pizza dough I needed to use as I bought a couple days ago. I also had chicken breast needing to be used, thus I made my chicken strips from scratch. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
