This Cast Iron Ribeye Steak is flavored with rosemary, thyme, butter, and garlic. It also has a nice crust on the outside and juicy center. So delicious!

Cast Iron Ribeye Steak

ribeye steak 1 1/4- 1 1/2 inch thick

Kosher salt

Rosemary

thyme

garlic

tbsp Avocado oil

unsalted butter

Let the steak sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes prior to preparing it. Pat the steak dry with a paper towel, then generously season with kosher salt. You want to make sure to season the top, bottom, and sides of the steak.

Now heat your cast iron pan over high heat. Once the pan is smoking pour in the avocado oil and gently place the seasoned steak into the pan. Always make sure to place it away from you so the hot oil doesn’t splash back at you.

Season and sear the steak

Now smash the garlic with the back of your knife and place it into the pan along with the thyme, rosemary, and butter.

As the butter melts begin basting the steak with the garlic and herb-infused butter using a spoon.

Once the steak has seared for a few minutes and formed a brown crust, flip it over, and continue basting with the melted herb butter on top. The best way to tell when your steak is done is by using an instant-read meat thermometer. For a medium steak, you want the meat to be about 145 degrees Fahrenheit. For a medium-well steak, cook it to 150 degrees Fahrenheit

Baste until done

Preheat your cast iron skillet over medium high heat. The pan should be smoking hot.

Season your steak liberally with salt and pepper.

Add your oil and butter to the pan. Immediately add your steak. Let it sear for 2-3 minutes.

Add the garlic and thyme.

Flip the steak, and sear for another 2-3 minutes. Spoon some of the cooking liquid over the top of the steak for flavor.

Check the temperature of the steak. If it&#39;s done, then place it on a cooling rack to rest for 7-10 minutes before serving. If it&#39;s not done, put in in the oven at 400°F for another five minutes and check the temperature again.

Slice against the grain and serve.

This cast iron seared strip steak is the BEST indoor way to cook a steak. Perfectly seasoned with a slight crust that turns out perfect every single time! 

Cast Iron Seared Strip Steak

Unwrap your steaks, place them onto a plate, and let rest uncovered in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours before you’re ready to start cooking. 

When you’re ready to start cooking preheat your oven to 450 degrees F. 

Place a 12-inch cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. 

Remove your steaks from the refrigerator and season both sides with the desired amount of kosher salt and black pepper. 

Add steaks to your hot pan and do not touch. 

Let the steaks cook until you start to see a color change halfway up the side of the steaks, about 5 minutes. 

Flip the steak.

Move the steak from the stovetop to the preheated oven. 

Cook for 8-10 minutes or until the steak reaches an internal temperature of 120-125 degrees F. 

Remove steaks from the oven and let rest until the steak reaches 130-135 degrees F. 

Serve plain or with a pat of garlic herb compound butter.

This is BEST and easiest way to make a perfectly cooked steak that will rival your favorite steakhouse. Seared in a cast iron and seasoned with garlic and butter, this steak will knock your socks off with flavor and is unbelievably simple to make!!

Cast Iron Strip Steak with Garlic Butter

Season

At least 40 minutes, and up to 2 hours, before cooking, season each steak evenly on all sides with the salt and pepper and refrigerate, uncovered, until time to cook.

Heat

Heat the pan over medium high to high heat until hot, then add the oil.

Cook

Add steak to the hot skillet and let cook 3-4 minutes on the first side without touching it.

Flip

Then flip each steak and turn the heat to low. Spread the crushed garlic  on the top of each steak (cooked side) and top with a pat of butter and fresh thyme.

Finish

Cover the pan with a lid and cook 5-10 more minutes until it reaches your desired level of doneness measured by temperature (see chart below.) Before removing from the heat, spoon the melted butter from the pan back over the top of the steak

Rest

Remove from heat, cover with foil, and allow to rest for 15 minutes before serving.

I made this with flank steak.  It was absolutely delicious!  I will certainly make it again.
