This spicy, saucy chicken takes almost no time to prep in the morning and only 5 minutes to finish before eating. At its simplest, the recipe is a meal-in-a-bowl stew, and the toppings are key to making it feel special. You could serve the chicken over rice or a whole grain, or use it as a taco or enchilada filling (use a slotted spoon to serve the chicken, if it is very saucy). You can also add 1 cup of frozen or fresh corn, or a drained 15-ounce can of black beans or pinto beans; just add them at the end along with the fresh cilantro and scallions. The level of heat in jarred salsas can vary, so taste yours first to ensure it is to your liking. If you want more spice, leave some of the jalapeño seeds in, or use hot canned green chiles instead of mild ones.

Slow Cooker Salsa Verde Chicken

scallions (green and white parts), thinly sliced

Kosher salt,

lime juice,

Combine the chicken thighs, salsa verde, green chiles, chopped garlic, jalapeño, garlic powder, onion powder and cumin in a 6- to 8-quart slow cooker. Stir to evenly combine. (Don’t add salt now; jarred salsas are often high in sodium.) Cook on low until the chicken is tender and the flavors are blended, 5 to 6 hours. (If you will be away for 8 hours or more, set the cook time for 4 hours on low and set the slow cooker auto-switch to warm for the remaining time.)

Use two forks to coarsely shred the chicken. With the heat on low, add the scallions and cilantro, and stir to combine. Season to taste with salt and lime juice. Serve with rice or in tortillas, if desired, with accompaniments.

ml (2 c. à thé) de coriandre moulue

pincée de poivre de Cayenne (facultatif)

45 ml (3 c. à soupe) de mélasse

45 ml (3 c. à soupe) de ketchup

ml (2 c. à soupe) de moutarde de Dijon

ml (2 c. à soupe) de vinaigre de vin rouge

boîte de 796 ml (28 oz) de tomates broyées

boîte de 540 ml (19 oz) de haricots rouges

Sel et poivre

ml (1 c. à soupe) de moutarde à l'ancienne

Dans une casserole, attendrir le poivron, l'oignon et l'ail dans l'huile. Ajouter le boeuf et le faire dorer. Ajouter les épices et poursuivre la cuisson 2 minutes. Ajouter la mélasse et le ketchup. Poursuivre la cuisson 2 minutes. Ajouter la moutarde de Dijon, le vinaigre, les tomates et les haricots. Laisser mijoter 45 minutes. Assaisonner. Retirer du feu et ajouter la moutarde à l'ancienne.

Délicieux!  j’ai mis seulement une cuillère à soupe de poudre de chili et de la moutarde de meaux en plus de la moutarde de Dijon wooowe acec une baguette de pain ! Très bonne recette que j’ai faite à plusieurs reprises, cette fois-ci, j’ai remplacé les 3 cuil à soupe de Mélasse par 3 cuil à soupe de sirop d’érable....beaucoup moins sucrée....vraiment excellente recette à refaire!

This was good but the main thing is that I wouldn’t use half and half at all. I did it that way the first time and not great but tried again with heavy cream and it was much better. The family likes this dish and it’s easy!!

Tastes way better with heavy cream! Creates the sauce a little thicker too, so it sticks to noodles better and is easier to eat!

TERRIBLE... Tasted like watery milk with pasta in it!!  I have cooked plenty of recipes with half and half, even some where it says use heavy cream and they all tasted good.  This was the WORST recipe for me to date.

This recipe is not for alfredo...alfredo needs heavy cream and needs more fat (butter) and needs a thickener. As is the sauce is thin and doesn’t stick to the pasta. Needed to add more spice to it as well to help it.

Easy to follow recipe. The whole family loved it so much that we didn’t even have leftovers! I will be making this recipe again.

The sauce was a bit thin...add a little corn starch.  And if you have refrigerated leftovers the next day..the sauce is thicker.  My husband said that this one was a 'keeper!'

Nothing like Chili’s. Like earlier commenters stated, sauce is way too thin. Also, there isn’t parsley in Chili’s recipe. It’s actually green onions. Had to look at Chili’s menu online to figure out why this tasted different.

Velveeta cheese

Chop the Velveeta into chunks. Add it to a slow cooker. Add all the other ingredients (except garnishes..and tortilla chips. Did I have to say that? :)

Place the lid on top and set to high heat for 1 hour. Stir once halfway through. Or you can cook it on low for 2-3 hours, stirring once halfway through. The longer it sits, the more time the flavors have to marry, so feel free to make this ahead of time! It reheats in a jiffy (microwave, stove top, or in the slow cooker).

Serve with tortilla chips and garnishes!

Slow Cooker Instructions:

Vidalia onion (diced finely)

chicken stock (about 2 cans)

green onions (sliced thinly)

Melt the butter in a large saucepan, Add diced onions and saute until translucent, but not browned.

Sprinkle the flour over the onions, stirring to incorporate , cook for about a minute, stirring gently. Add stock and bring to a simmer.

In a small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in COLD water.

To the saucepan, add instant mashed potato flakes, dissolved cornstarch water and seasonings, whisking gently to incorporate all of the ingredients over medium-high heat.

Bring the mixture to a boil, whisking often. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

Cut the baked potatoes in half lengthwise, make a couple of slits in the potatoes to make small bite-sized pieces, then scoop out the contents with a large spoon.

To the soup base, add the potato pieces, 1/3 c. shredded cheddar cheese and half &amp; half, bring it back to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer the soup for another 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Just prior to serving add about a tablespoon each of shredded cheddar cheese, bacon and chopped green onion pieces to the top.

Garnish &amp; Serve
