Crock pot pepper steak is an easy homemade version of the classic Chinese American dish. Bell peppers and tender beef in a rich, thick sauce made with ginger, soy sauce and honey.

Crock Pot Pepper Steak

Place the beef in a bowl and sprinkle with the garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Toss to coat.

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium high. Add the beef and cook on all sides until the beef is lightly browned, about 5 minutes (no need to cook it all the way through). Transfer the beef and any cooking juices to a 6-quart slow cooker.

To the skillet where you were just cooking the beef, add the onions. Increase the heat to high. Carefully pour in 1/4 cup water, stirring to scrape up any browned bits stuck on the pan. Sauté until the onions begin to soften and lightly brown and the liquid has cooked off, about 3 minutes, then transfer the onions to the slow cooker with the beef.

To the slow cooker, add the green and red bell peppers (see recipe note) and tomatoes. In a small bowl or a large liquid measuring cup, whisk together the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, honey, ginger, red pepper flakes, and 3 tablespoons cornstarch. Pour into the slow cooker.

Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 7 hours, until the beef is tender (you can also make this recipe on HIGH, cooking it for 3 to 4 hours, though I find the beef comes out more tender on low heat).

In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 2 tablespoons cornstarch with the remaining 2 tablespoons water to make a slurry. Stir the slurry into the slow cooker. Turn the slow cooker to HIGH and let cook, uncovered, for 10 minutes to further thicken. The pepper beef will still be saucy, but it should resemble a thick, rich gravy. Stir once more. Taste and add additional salt, soy sauce, and/or red pepper flakes to taste. Serve hot with prepared brown rice and a sprinkle of green onion.

Easy Chinese Pepper Steak

Slice beef into 1/4 inch strips. Set aside.

In a small mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Add in beef broth, sugar, black pepper, ginger, and garlic. Whisk to combine. Set aside.

Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a wok over high heat. Add in beef and toss until seared, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from wok and set aside.

Add in another 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add in peppers and onions. Cook in the wok until tender crisp, about 3 minutes.

Add meat back into the wok. Add in ginger garlic sauce. Stir and cook about 1 minute.

Garnish with sliced green onions (optional) and serve hot.

Slice ribeye steak into thin 1&quot; pieces against the grain. Slice peppers and onions into equal 1&quot; pieces.

Rub steak pieces with minced ginger and garlic.

Lightly spray air fryer basket with oil. Add peppers and onions to the air fryer basket. Cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 4 minutes, then add steak and stir. Cook for 12-15 minutes until vegetables are tender and steak is browned.

While it cooks, mix all of the sauce ingredients together in a microwave-safe dish and cook in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir, and cook an additional 30 seconds, then stir again.

Once steak and vegetables are done cooking, toss with sauce and serve with steamed rice.

Slow Cooker Pepper Steak Recipe

Make the sauce. Combine hot beef broth, bouillon cubes, soy sauce, worchestire sauce, honey, ground ginger, black pepper, salt and cornstarch/flour in a mixing glass. Stir well, crushing the bouillon cubes.

Place beef strips into the slow cooker. Pour sauce on top. Add peppers, onions and garlic on top of the beef.

Set to LOW for 6 hours or HIGH for 3 hours. If possible, stir the ingredients halfway through.

When finished, stir well and transfer to a serving dish. Serve over rice or noodles or as a side with mashed or baked potatoes.

lb. skirt steak (or flank, sirloin steak)

fish sauce

2-2.5 tbsp tapioca starch (or arrowroot starch)

oz garlic (grated, 7 large)

0.5 oz ginger (grated, 4 tsp)

tsp arrowroot starch

avocado oil (divided)

Marinate

Thinly slice the beef against the grain. In a bowl, marinade the beef from coconut aminos to starch. Stir-well. Set them aside in the fridge for 15-20 minutes while you prepare the vegetables.

Slice

Prepare the onion, bell peppers, and cilantro. Set the shallot and bell peppers in one bowl and cilantro in a separate bowl.

Sauce

Mix the pepper steak sauce from olive oil to salt. Set it aside ready to use.

Sear

In a well-heated large cast iron or skillet, add 1 tbsp avocado oil. Pan sear the beef over medium-high heat in one layer without disturbing for about 2 minutes or until the beef is in golden brown color. Use a spatula with a firm tip to flip and cook the other side for about 30 seconds. Off heat, set the beef aside in one bowl along with the pan juices.

Saute

You should have some oil left in the skillet, if not, add 0.5 more tbsp of oil and reheat the skill until it feels warm. Add the bell peppers and onions over medium-high heat with a pinch of salt until the peppers are crisp tender, about 2 minutes.

Combine

Add the beef along with the juice back to the pan. Stir the sauce one more time then add it to the pan. Toss everything together for about 1 minute.

Serve

Off heat. Garnish with cilantro. Serve hot or at room temperature with rice.

Pepper Steak Recipe

Whisk

Whisk together all of the sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Set aside until ready to use.

For the Sauce

Pound

Place the flank steak on a cutting board and cover it with plastic. Use a meat mallet to pound it to ½-inch thick. Thinly slice the steak as thinly as you can– about ⅛ inch. Season the steak lightly with salt and pepper.

Heat

Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add as much steak as will fit to the pan– you don’t want to overcrowd it!

Cook the steak for 1-2 minutes per side, or until cooked to your desired doneness. Remove the steak to a plate and continue searing the steak in batches until it has all been cooked.

Sauté

Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil to the pan. When it is warm, add the onion. Sauté for 2-3 minutes, or until just beginning to soften.

Cook

Add the red and green bell peppers. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the peppers are tender.

Thicken

Add the seared steak and sauce to the pan. Cook for 1-2 minutes or until the sauce has thickened and the steak is warmed through again.

Serve over rice garnished with sesame seeds and sliced green onion.
