Back-to-School Chocolate Covered Pretzels

chocolate

red food coloring

Pretzel twists ((this is an estimate))

green and brown M&Ms

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate wafers on low power for 30 second increments, stirring between each increment until chocolate is fully melted.

Add in red food coloring to the white chocolate until you get your desired color of red.

Dip each pretzel twist into the melted chocolate, making sure the excess drips off. Place on a sheet of parchment paper.

Before the chocolate has set, add half a brown M&M on for the stem and half a green M&M for the leaf.

Repeat until you use all the white chocolate.

Place your parchment paper with pretzels in the refrigerator until chocolate is completely set (about 15 min). Enjoy!

My Classic Chocolate Covered Pretzels

honey wheat pretzels (or 4 cups pretzel shapes of choice)

sprinkles

Line a large baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Set aside.

In a microwave safe bowl, break up the chocolate bars into small pieces so they melt easily.  Microwave on high for 30 seconds.  Remove and stir for about a minute. The chocolate will continue to melt as you stir. If needed, microwave in 10 second increments until all is melted and smooth.

Take a pretzel and dip into chocolate, using a spoon to evenly cover 1/2 of the pretzel. Shake the pretzel a bit to remove any excess chocolate. Immediately cover the chocolate with sprinkles before the chocolate hardens. I usually do this over a paper plate, to catch the sprinkles that miss the pretzel.

Place each pretzel on lined baking sheet and refrigerate for about 10 minutes for the chocolate to harden. Once chocolate is set, cover tightly and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Very easy! I like to use the honey wheat pretzels.

mini pretzels or 24 pretzel rods

chocolate chips (or chocolate bars, chopped)

Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside

Place the chocolate chips and shortening into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well between each spin, until smooth.

Use a fork to submerge the mini pretzels into the melted chocolate. Or dip half of the pretzel rods into the chocolate and rotate so it covers all sides.

Carefully lift the pretzels out, one by one, and gently tap off the excess chocolate. Arrange them in a single layer on the baking sheets to cool.

If using sprinkles, sea salt, chopped nuts, etc., add them while the chocolate is still wet. Dip and decorate in batches to make it easier. If adding a chocolate or peanut butter drizzle, do so at the end.
