In a large bowl, combine both jars of pasta sauce and the tomato sauce together.

Grate the Parmesan cheese and set aside.

Grease the inside of a 6 qt slow...

Add 2 1/3 cups of pasta sauce to...

Add 1/3 of the uncooked penne.

Dot on half of the ricotta mixture and...

Add another 2 1/3 cups of sauce mixture

Add an additional 1/3 of the uncooked penne.

Dot on the remaining ricotta and spread out.

Top with the remaining 2 1/3 cups of...

This easy Crock Pot Baked Ziti recipe only takes 10 minutes to prep using uncooked noodles layered in cheese and marinara sauce. Delicious comfort food for any busy night!

jars marinara pasta sauce

water

UNCOOKED ziti pasta ((or penne))

cream cheese (, softened)

sour cream

ricotta cheese ((or cottage cheese))

garlic (, minced)

basil leaves (, chopped)

parmesan cheese

Fresh basil, for topping (optional)

Make Cheese Layer: Add cream cheese, sour cream and ricotta to a mixing bowl. Beat with electric mixers until smooth. Stir in garlic and basil.

Make Red Sauce: In a large bowl, combine both jars of pasta sauce, tomato sauce and water.

Assemble: Add 2 cups of sauce to the bottom of the slow cooker. Top with about ⅓ of the uncooked penne. Dot on half of the ricotta mixture and use a spoon to gently spread it out evenly. Top with 3/4 cup grated parmesan cheese.

Add another 2 cups of sauce. Top with ⅓ of the uncooked penne. Add remaining ricotta mixture and spread. Sprinkle on the remaining 3/4 cup parmesan cheese. Add the remaining uncooked penne. Top with the remaining sauce. Make sure the ziti noodles are covered by the sauce so they cook appropriately. Top with mozzarella cheese.

Cook: Cover with lid and cook on HIGH for 2 - 2 1/2 hours, or LOW for 3 1/3 -4 hours, or until pasta is tender. Serve garnished with fresh basil, if desired.

Combine the ricotta cheese, eggs, and fresh basil in a bowl and stir well.

Grease the inside of a 6 qt slow cooker.

Add 2 1/3 cups of pasta sauce to the bottom of the slow cooker.

Add 1/3 of the uncooked penne. It&#39;s worth measuring the penne into 3 parts. before you begin to ensure an evenly cooked dish.

Add half of the Parmesan cheese (1 cup).

Add another 2 1/3 cups of sauce mixture.

Sprinkle on the remaining parmesan cheese (1 cup).

Top with the remaining 2 1/3 cups of sauce mixture.

Cover the crock pot baked ziti and cook it on high for 2-3 hours, or until the pasta is al dente. Mine was perfect right around 2.5 hours.

During the last 15-30 minutes, add the mozzarella cheese to the top and allow it to melt.

Serve alone or topped with red pepper flakes and served with garlic bread and a side salad.

This was delicious! Can I prepare it ahead of time?  I would like to put all the ingredients in the Crockpot the day before and then leave it in the refrigerator. Then take it out and let it come to room temperature (20 minutes?) and then start cooking for 2.5 hours.  Will that work? Thoughts on that?

Was surprisingly easy to make. Toughest part is separating the pasta into thirds. The ziti was delicious. Going to add meat and garlic next time I make it. Might also add mushrooms.

I do not recommend leaving this on high. After following the exact recipe the noodles were well done. Taste was 7/10.

Simple recipe and while it’s not fully done cooking yet I have had a small bite and it was delicious. Can’t wait to really dive in.

I made this tonight using the 14oz box of Protien Plus barilla brand penne and a pound of Italian sausage i precooked and mixed into the sauce.  I like my pasta kinda saucey so I added a second can of tomato sauce to keep everything moist with the extra meat ingredient I added. I also have a bigger crockpot(8qt) and I was afraid it would dry things if I didn't make up for the difference cuz it was only half full. It's cooking now, I've made this recipe before and we enjoyed it much. thanks for a kid friendly dinner idea!
