This Skillet Egg Roll in a Bowl is a quick and easy dinner made with tender cabbage, savory ground meat and the best egg roll flavors, all in one skillet!

Skillet Egg Roll in a Bowl

olive oil

yellow onion, (finely diced)

garlic, (minced)

Salt and fresh ground black pepper, (to taste)

pre-packaged coleslaw mix with matchstick carrots

rice,

peanut sauce

water

soy sauce

green onions, (for garnish)

Chopped fresh cilantro, (for garnish)

Lime wedges, (for serving)

Heat olive oil in a large 12-inch skillet set over medium-high heat.

Add onions to the heated oil and cook for 2 minutes, or until just softened.

Stir in garlic and cook for 10 seconds.

Add ground meat, season with salt and pepper, and continue to cook, frequently stirring, for 6 to 8 minutes, or until no longer pink. Drain and return skillet back to the burner over medium-high heat.

Add coleslaw to the meat and cook for 4 minutes.

Stir in rice, peanut sauce, water, and soy sauce; bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer.

Continue to simmer for 5 to 7 minutes, or until heated through and cabbage is wilted and tender; stir occasionally.

Remove from heat and taste for salt; adjust to taste.

Garnish with green onions and cilantro.

Serve with lime wedges.

20 Minute Vegan Egg Roll In A Bowl (Crack Slaw)

(227 g) can water chestnuts, drained and chopped

green onions, diced

tamari or soy sauce

sesame oil

plum sauce

chili garlic sauce

5 spice powder

liquid smoke (optional)

rice

sesame seeds

First prep the vegetables and whisk the sauce ingredients together in a small bowl. Set them aside.

Add the 'meat' to a large non stick skillet and cook over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until fully cooked and a little crispy. Stir in the garlic, ginger and a pinch of pepper. Cook until fragrant, about a minute.

Add the cabbage, carrots and water chestnuts. Fry for 3-4 minutes until the cabbage begins to wilt but still has a bite to it (crisp-tender)

Remove pan from the heat and stir in the green onions and sauce. Season with salt and pepper if needed. Serve as is or with rice and extra chili garlic sauce or sriracha for the table. Enjoy! For step by step photos see above post.

My go-to comfort food.  Peeps - YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE SAUCE!  Otherwise it is just a deconstructed stuffed cabbage roll (sort of?!).  This recipe changed my life (really!) and we are now a Cheeky Chickpea household!

I’m vegan but don’t use a lot of meat substitutes, but this recipe looked so good I had to try it. I used Gardein because I”m also gluten free. This was a great recipe. Thank you. I’m oil free too, so for anyone out there who would avoid this because of the oil, I water sautéed the crumbles and I omitted the sesame oil from the dressing and this was still DELICIOUS! Try this deconstructed egg roll recipe, made in 20 minutes with low carb ingredients. Customize your protein and add a punch of flavor with a simple homemade stir-fry sauce.

Inside Out Egg Roll

tbsp oil

spring onions (sliced)

garlic

lbs white cabbage (shredded, about ½ small head)

carrots

mung bean sprouts (optional)

tbsp dark soy sauce

tbsp fresh ginger (or ground)

tsp sriracha sauce (optional, spicy)

tbsp Swerve brown sugar (optional, for sweetness)

tbsp green onions and sesame seeds (optional garnish)

Heat up the oil in a big pan over high heat, add the beef and cook until not longer pink, breaking it up while cooking (drain if there is a lot of fluid)

add the spring onions and the garlic and cook another 1-2 minutes until onions start to soften

now add cabbage, carrots and mung bean sprouts and stir

mix ingredients for the sauce and pour into the pan

Give everything another stir and cook on low to medium heat until vegetables have desired softness

Add salt, pepper and chili to taste and serve hot with some sprinkled spring onions and sesame seeds

This egg roll in a bowl is easy, ready in 15 minutes, full of flavor, has lots of texture, and is healthier than actual egg rolls!

To a large skillet add the oils, chicken, and cook over medium-high heat until done, about 4 to 5 minutes; crumble chicken and stir intermittently to ensure even cooking.

Add the onions and cook for about 5 minutes or until tender; stir intermittently.

Add the garlic, ginger, and cook for about 1 minute, or until fragrant.

Add the coleslaw mix (looks like a lot but wilts quickly), evenly drizzle the soy sauce, add the pepper, stir to combine, and cook for about 5 minutes, or until cabbage is wilted and tender; stir intermittently.

Evenly sprinkle with green onions, optional sesame seeds, and optional extra sauces for serving. Serve immediately.

Egg Roll in a Bowl! Ground pork browned with garlic and ginger, sautéed carrots and cabbage cooked down in some soy sauce and chili paste, a nice little heap of hot rice. YUM.

Rice and green onions

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and ginger and saute until fragrant.

Add the five-spice, soy sauce, chili paste, and pork. Break apart until the meat is browned and cooked through.

Add the coleslaw mix and carrots. Toss until the vegetables are tender-crisp.

Serve over rice, with green onions and Sriracha if you like that kinda thing. (I do.)

Amazing appetizer. I made it but didn't took any picture as my dressing wasn't as good as yours. But it tasted great.

Yes my husband uses myfitnesspal and is able to enter any changes I make as well, just as adding an extra carrot, or the rice I make to go along with this recipe. 
This recipe was a hit with my family and I’m planning to make it again next week when we have out of town visitors!

Made this for dinner,  all the kids asked for seconds, even the picky one.  Truly only took about 15 minutes, which I find to be unusual even when a recipe claims it’s quick.  Great flavor, though I did add some extra soy sauce to my bowl since I’m a bit of a salt fiend.  My first recipe for your site, now I’m hooked!

Ok, not gonna lie, I’m shocked. This was way better than I expected! I cooked the carrots for a few minutes before adding the ground pork, but otherwise did not change anything. It was a hit-we’ll make again!

This was fantastic! Easy enough my husband made it when I was working late.  My family randomly eats egg rolls with cocktail sauce so we topped it up with some of that and loved it!
