Our easy orange chicken recipe puts a healthy spin on the sweet-savory Chinese takeout favorite.

Easy Orange Chicken

orange juice +2tsp finely minced zest

soy sauce (or tamari to make it gluten-free)

1/2-1 tsp chili-garlic paste

brown sugar

garlic cloves

tbsp rice wine vinegar

water

cornstarch

chicken

salt

olive oil

In a large bowl toss chicken breast pieces with salt and olive oil and arrange on a baking sheet

Bake chicken cubes for 20 minutes on center rack until cooked through

In a small bowl form a slurry by combining cornstarch with water until fulling incorporated

In a small saucepan add all ingredients, including prepared slurry, and bring to a simmer

Allow to simmer for 3-5 minutes, until sauce has thickened

Once chicken is done pour the orange sauce over the chicken and toss until chicken is fully coated

Serve warm over white rice or cauliflower rice

Easy Asian Orange Chicken

lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts

all purpose flour

egg (beaten)

pepper

oil (for frying)

orange juice

rice vinegar

ginger root (minced)

garlic (minced)

red pepper flakes

Combine flour, salt, and pepper.

Dip chicken in egg mixture and shake in flour mixture to coat.

Deep fry chicken in batches at 375 degrees in a deep fryer (or use a wok) until completely cooked.

Meanwhile, in a large saucepan combine orange juice, rice vinegar, and soy sauce.

Blend well over medium heat for a few minutes.

Stir in brown sugar, orange zest, ginger and garlic. Bring to a boil.

Combine 3 tablespoons of cornstarch with 1/4 cup of water and mix thoroughly.

Slowly stir cornstarch mixture into sauce until it thickens.

Pour sauce over breaded chicken, and if desired add red pepper flakes.

Orange Chicken

Flame-kissed, sticky and saucy, grilled orange chicken skewers with a rich, citrus-based marinade are delicious, juicy and so tender. The best summer weeknight dinner.

Grilled Orange Chicken Skewers

chicken breasts, boneless and skinless, cut into 1.5-inch thick cubes

Maggi sauce (or soy sauce)

orange juice,

orange zest

vegetable oil

garlic, minced

white pepper (optional)

teaspoon black pepper

In a medium bowl, combine Maggi sauce (or soy sauce), orange juice, orange zest, vegetable oil, garlic, white pepper (optional), and black pepper. Stir well until combined. Add chicken breast and stir to coat. Cover the bowl with cling wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight). You can also store the marinated chicken breasts in a sealable ziploc bag.

Remove the chicken from the marinade, and reserve the marinade. Thread the chicken onto skewers, adding about 6-7 pieces of cubed chicken breasts for each skewer. If you are using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes before you thread the chicken on and grill to stop them from burning.

Lightly brush olive oil over grill or grill pan. Preheat the grill over medium high heat for 3 minutes until the oil starts sizzling and shimmering. Place the skewers spaced evenly apart on the grill and grill for 8-10 minutes on each side or until the internal temperature for the chicken reaches 165 F. Do not overlap the skewers at any time to ensure even cooking for all the skewers.

Place the reserved marinade into a small cooking pot and heat over medium heat for 2 minutes, until it starts to boil. Add cornstarch and stir continuously with a spoon to dissolve, until the sauce starts to thicken and forms a smooth and thick sauce. You don’t need much sauce, a tablespoon is plenty for coating the chicken.

Transfer the skewers onto a plate and drizzle with the orange sauce.

This is one of those recipes you want in your back pocket for days when you need something on the table fast and you’d prefer it to be healthy, satisfying, and pretty if at all possible. Easy, healthier Orange Chicken to the rescue!

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken in a single layer (do this in multiple batches, if needed) and cook for 2 minutes per side, or until browned. Transfer the chicken to a paper towel lined plate and cover.

Once all of the chicken is cooked, add it back to the skillet, along with the orange sauce. Cook over medium heat until the chicken pieces are fully cooked through, 5-7 minutes.
