This quick and easy wonton soup is super simple, loaded with veggies and takes under 15 minutes to make thanks to the frozen wontons.

Easy Wonton Soup

chicken broth low sodium

1- inch piece fresh ginger (sliced thin)

minced garlic

mini frozen wontons (I love the Chicken Cilantro one’s from Trader Joe’s)

mushrooms

baby bok choy (halved lengthwise and halved)

soy sauce

sesame oil

scallions (sliced green parts only for garnish)

Bring chicken broth to a boil in a large pot.

Smash the sliced ginger with the side of a knife to bring out the flavor and add to the pot with the garlic, cover and cook 5 minutes.

Add the bok choy and partially cook 5 minutes, then add the frozen wontons and mushroom, simmer for 2 to 3 minutes, until the wontons are heated through and bok choy is tender and wilted.

Stir in soy sauce and sesame oil.

Divide soup in four bowls. Garnish with fresh scallions.

Easy (15 Minute) Wonton Soup Recipe

15 Minute Wonton Soup with flavorful lemon ginger broth and a handful of vibrant greens. A fast, easy weeknight dinner!

15 Minute Wonton Soup

leek, white parts,

ginger (the size of ginger paste)

olive oil

chicken broth

10-14 wontons shrimp

salt and lemon juice

kale

garnish options: scallions, cilantro, sesame seeds, chili flakes

In a medium pot, saute the shallot and ginger in oil, over medium heat, until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Add the broth, cover and bring to a boil. Add the wontons and simmer according to directions on the package ( 3-5 minutes- depending on size) They normally float when cooked through.

Taste the broth and add salt and a squeeze of lemon. I like mine quite lemony, but season to your own taste.

Drop in the greens, cooking until wilted. Spinach will take 45 seconds, kale will take longer.

Divide among two bowls and sprinkle with any of the garnishes.

This soup is fantastic. My teen has been sick all week, unable to eat, and this is his tippy-toeing back into eating solid food. It is so soothing and healthy/hydrating, we used veggie broth and extra ginger and lemon for the healing factors, and Trader Joe’s kale / cabbage mix and spinach at the last, for ease. It burst with green flavorfulness and health!  I wish TJs had veggie wontons.

Really delicious!  The broth is just so good...  we added nappa cabbage, because I had it around, but any other greens will be delicious for sure. Another keeper!

I made this for dinner today, it was excellent.

Made this last night for a dinner party, I used a bit of Sriracha sauce in the broth itself and didn't put as much salt as my chicken stock had enough, turned out delicious!

Wonderful. I used Costco pot stickers (that I can't cook without burning) along with  extra ginger and some leftover Vidalia onion. As much as I love lemon, I used sesame oil and soy sauce instead. The brilliance of the bok choy looked beautiful. Thank you so much for such a delicious dish!

ADORE this recipe! It’s fast and delicious. We incorporated the garlic chips from the mushroom soup recipe and added sesame oil.

I am very excited to make this soup. Can you tell me if you think making it with beef broth would be a good taste? I would lean toward the toasted sesame oil instead of lemon.

I have probably made this soup 10 times now. It’s simple to make and so good. Always make a double batch so folks in my house can enjoy it all week. The last  3 times I have made it, I added  some fresh Lemongrass to the Leek and Ginger sauté step and it adds another delicious dimension.

This turned out delicious, I definitely agree the more lemony the better. I added a bit of toasted sesame oil too. What a fantastic warm meal that I can file away as a “you probably have all of the ingredients on hand” option.

I tried this to the letter the first time (it was good!) and the second, I altered it to my specific tastes and I am super pleased with it! 

For the broth I used mushroom broth and a small box of chicken bone broth. 

I halved the ginger and tripled the garlic, cause I love it. Lol 

I also added Wood Ear mushrooms to it, they are my favorite from hot pot soups.

Great recipe! Used up whole pack of wonton wrappers (30 pieces) I added extra cup of stock and 2 cups water as I didn’t think would be enough broth. Added baby carrots and Bok Choy. Really happy with results. Only filled 1/2 teaspoon of pork mixture, next time will fill more.

I made this last night, it was terrific. I cheated a little and used frozen potstickers. Also, I did not remove the garlic and ginger, it added a nice bright flavor. I added baby bok choy.

I made these to the letter on the filling , but added a few more ingredients and accidentally added a tsp of red pepper flakes , instead of 1/2 tsp, but they came out great! Just the right spice for me. Also added spinach, mushrooms, and more white wine vinegar to broth. Plus cilantro and chives!

Delicious and so quick and easy if you have on hand a few items from fresh groceries and pantry.  Make the wontons the day before using and either refrigerate or freeze.  Add a couple of minutes to cooking time if you freeze wontons.  So so good! Gin Bell

Chinese Five Spice

12- 14 mini wontons (or to your preference)

greens – optional

fish sauce

sugar

Garnishes: bean sprouts, lime wedges, jalapeno slices, fresh basil

Place stock, ginger, garlic, scallions (white parts only) 5 Spice, pepper into a medium pot and bring to a boil.

Simmer 5 minutes or according to directions on the package (perhaps longer for bigger ones).

Add the green scallions, soy sauce, fish sauce and sugar.

Taste for salt. Adjust. The broth should taste flavorful and have depth, so adjust with soy sauce,fish sauce or salt, as necessary.

Ladle into two large bowls and top with fresh bean spouts, a handful of herbs, thinly sliced jalapeño peppers. Stir in sriracha sauce and hoisin to taste.

I made this soup for lunch today.  It is fantastic.  Thanks so much for the easy, yummy recipe!

Delightfully easy and delicious soup!  We spooned the soup over spinach so it didn't completely wilt and added shiitake mushrooms.  And thankfully we doubled it so we have leftovers.

Easy 10-Minute Wonton Soup

chicken stock

water, divided

salt

soy sauce (or regular soy sauce)

fresh cilantro, chopped

In a small saucepan, bring chicken stock and 1 cup of water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add wontons and salt. When the wontons float to the top, add a cup of cold water.

Once wontons float to the top again, add soy sauce and sesame oil.

Scoop wontons out into a bowl and top up with soup base. Garnish with cilantro and green onions. Enjoy!

How to Fold Wontons

A recipe for an easy Chinese wonton soup with wonton dumplings filled with shrimp and ground pork and served in a simple to make seafood-based broth. Includes a step-by-step guide on how to fold wonton dumplings.

Wonton Noodle Soup

wonton noodles

wonton wrappers

shrimp ((21/25 size, approximately 10))

g pork ((approx. 1/2 cup))

green onions ((approx. 1/4 cup, finely chopped))

corn starch

fish sauce ((or 1½ teaspoon soy sauce))

oyster sauce

shaoxing cooking wine

white pepper ((optional, do not use black pepper))

chicken broth ((low sodium or no sodium))

shrimp skins ((leftover from peeling shrimp))

garlic ((smashed))

sesame oil ((add

green onions ((finely chopped))

yellow chives

fried garlic

garlic chili oil

crispy onions

If you are using frozen shrimp, defrost it in a bowl of cold water for 10-15 minutes.Peel the shrimp and set the shrimp peels aside for the broth.

Wash the green onions and cut off the tips where the roots are. We want to use both the greens and the whites of the green onion. Finely chop the green onions and set it aside.Keep a tablespoon of the green parts off to the side as garnish.

Preparation

Cut 1 slice ginger and add it to a large pot.

Peel 2 cloves garlic and smash it with the side of your knife. Keep it intact so that it is easy to find it and remove it after the soup has finished cooking.Add it to the pot.

Set the stove to medium-low heat and add the shrimp skins, 1 liter chicken broth, 1 tablespoon fish sauce 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce, and 1/2 teaspoon white pepper into the pot.Don&#39;t add the sesame oil yet. We want to put the sesame oil at the very end when the soup is done so it doesn&#39;t cook away the flavor.

Put a lid on the pot and let it simmer for about 30 minutes to an hour while you are preparing the dumplings.

Making the Wonton Soup

In large bowl, add the ground pork, 1/2 teaspoon corn starch, 1 teaspoon fish sauce, 3 teaspoon oyster sauce, 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil, 1 teaspoon shaoxing cooking wine, 1/4 teaspoon white pepper and mix everything in 1 direction for 10 minutes. Set the pork aside after you have finished mixing it.We want to mix the pork very well until it is gluey. This will give the filling a springier texture. The longer you mix it, the springier the texture will be.Alternatively, I highly recommend using this with a hand mixer or a stand mixer. I mix it for 8 minutes on the 6 setting on my Kitchenaid stand mixer.

Here is what the texture of the pork filling should look like after it has finished mixing.

Place the peeled shrimp on the cutting board and chop it to your preference of size. I personally like to keep the shrimp size chunkier so I can taste it more, and I find it gives the texture more of a crunch. If you like your shrimp finer, chop it very well until it is smooth.

Add the shrimp to the pork mixture and mix everything together well for 5 minutes until everything is evenly combined.

Here is what the final shrimp wonton filling should look like after it has finished mixing.

Add in the green onions and mix for 1 minute.

Do a taste test by putting a teaspoon in a small bowl and microwaving it for 20 seconds in the microwave or pan-frying it in a frying pan. Adjust the saltiness by adding more soy sauce, fish sauce or salt.

Making the Wonton Dumplings Filling

Open a pack of wonton wrappers but keep it under a damp paper towel so it doesn&#39;t dry out. Place a small bowl of water out, this is what we will use to seal the dumplings. Bring out a plate where you will keep the dumplings after you have finished folding them. If you work slowly, you may want to cover the plate with a damp paper towel while you are making the dumplings so they don&#39;t dry out.

Place a wonton wrapper on your palm, diamond shape facing you (if you are using square wrappers). Fill 1 teaspoon of filling into the middle of the wrapper.

Using your other hand, dip your finger into the bowl of water. Wet the top edges of the wrapper.

Bring the bottom corner of the wonton wrapper from the bottom to the top corner and press on just the tip.

Hold the wonton dumpling by the tip at the top with 1 hand, and use the other hand to grab the excess  wrapper on the right side and press it together towards the top. It doesn&#39;t need to be perfect, it just needs to stick together.

Switch the dumpling to the other hand and do the same thing on the left side

Use both hands to hold the dumplings and use your forefinger or middle finger and your thumb to press everything together to seal it well at the top of the dumpling. The shape is meant to be whimsical and not perfect. Place the dumpling on the plate and cover it with a damp cloth while you work on the next dumpling. Repeat steps 2-7 until all the dumplings have been folded.

Folding the Wonton Dumplings

Place another pot of water on the stove and put it on high heat until the water starts boiling. This pot of water will be used to cook the wonton dumplings and noodles. We don&#39;t want to cook the wonton dumplings and wonton noodles in the soup because it will make soup thick and starchy.

Place the wonton dumplings in the pot of boiling water and keep stirring the water until the water comes to a boil again so that the dumplings don&#39;t sink and stick to the bottom of the pot. Once the dumplings start floating to the top, they are done. (Cooks in approximately 5 minutes). Ladle them out into a bowl.

Bring that same pot of water back to boiling, and add in the wonton noodles.  Keep moving the noodles around in the boiling water to cook it quickly and evenly. These noodles overcook easily, cook them for 20-25 seconds only. Place the cooked wonton noodles in the bowl with the cooked wonton dumplings.

For the wonton soup, remove the garlic cloves, ginger slices, and shrimp skins from the soup and discard them. Add 1½ teaspoons of sesame oil in the pot and stir. Turn off the heat.

Ladle the wonton soup over the dumplings and noodles and enjoy!
