We are showing you how to make rice in the Instant Pot. It&#x27;s so easy, you will be like DOH! And it&#x27;s delicious. We love this so much, we bought a second Instant Pot so that we could replace our rice maker and use the Instant Pot for rice instead.

We are making enough white rice for 6 people so will be using 3 cups of short grained rice.

How to Cook Perfect Rice

Measure out 1 1/2 cup of white rice...

Measure out 1 1/2 cup of white rice and pour it into a saucepan that has a tight-fitting lid. Move over to the sink and run some room-temperature water over the top of the rice until it covers the rice by about an inch. Use your fingers to swirl the rice and water around the pan. Drain the water off of the rice using a fine mesh sieve or through your hand if you don’t have one. Repeat the process of adding water, swirling, and draining two more times.

Once you've finished, measure 2 cups of water...

Once you've finished, measure 2 cups of water and add it to the pot. Stir the rice as you add in the water, but do NOT stir it again once you've turned the heat on - ever.

Set the pot over medium-heat and patiently wait...

Set the pot over medium-heat and patiently wait as it comes to a boil. Let it boil until the water level drops below the level of the rice (the rice will be peeking through the top). Turn the heat down to the lowest setting possible, place the kitchen towel over the top of the pot, and cover the rice with the pot’s lid. Bring the edges of the towel up and twist around the handle of the lid so they aren't dangling down near the heat element.

Set a timer for 15 minutes and walk...

Set a timer for 15 minutes and walk away. Once that timer goes off, turn the heat off entirely and let the rice sit for 10 more minutes before taking off the lid. After 10 minutes, remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork. Serve hot.

How to Make Fluffy Japanese Rice without a Rice Cooker

(1½ US cups) Short Grain Rice

(1¾ US cups) Cold water

First, measure out your rice. We recommend that you weigh it out using kitchen scales. (See note)

Next, pour the rice into a sieve and put the sieve into a large bowl. Pour cold water on to the rice and wash. When the water becomes cloudy, drain it out and repeat this step 2 more times.

Then, put the rice into a pot with a thick base, one that has a lid. Pour in 400ml of cold water and leave to soak for 30 minutes.

Put your pot on the stove on a medium heat and bring it to the boil.

Don't take off the lid, listen for the boiling water. Once you can hear it boiling set a timer for 2 minutes.

After 2 minutes are up, reduce the heat to medium-low and set a timer for 3 minutes.

After 3 minutes are up, reduce the heat to the lowest setting and simmer for 5 minutes.

Turn up the heat to max for 10 seconds and then turn off the heat completely, leave the rice to steam for 10 minutes. Don't be tempted to take off the lid or mix it.

After the 10 minutes are up, your fluffy and slightly sticky Japanese rice will be ready! Simply mix well and serve up!

Rinse rice in a strainer under cold water until water runs mostly clear.

Place rice inside the rice cooker and fill with water. Close lid and set the program to white rice.

Once the rice is done cooking, fluff with a plastic spatula and serve.

How to Cook Basmati Rice

Basmati Rice

625 ml Cold Water

Wash

Wash the rice in a seive until the water runs clear.

Place basmati rice into a heavy bottomed stainless steel pan. Pour in the measured COLD water (see notes for correct rice to water measurements)

Flavour

Optional - If desired, flavour the rice depending on what you are serving it with?Indian - Cardamon pods, tumeric or cinnamonChinese - Star anise or 5 spiceItalian - Dried herbs

Boil

Bring to the boil with the lid off, this will take about 7 minutes.

Simmer

Once it reaches the boil, stir, then turn the temperature to the lowest setting.

Put lid on and simmer for 8 minutes. DO NOT remove lid at any point, the steam needs to build up.

Rest

After 8 minutes turn off the heat. DO NOT remove lid.Leave to sit off the heat for 5 minutes with the lid still on to allow remaining steam to cook and any remaining water to soak into the rice. This is part of the cooking time do not be tempted to lift the lid!!

Fluff

Ok permission to remove lid now! Use a fork to fluff up the perfectly cooked rice!

Serve

How To Cook Rice On The Stove

Weigh out 150 grams of white rice (Any type, I used Jasmin for this recipe, naturally stickier rice great with Thai Food). Soak and rinse the rice until the water runs clear.

Weigh out 225 grams of water. Add this to the rice along with 2 grams salt and 10 grams coconut oil, butter or any other oil for that matter.

Bring the rice to the boil and turn down the heat to a minimum setting.

Quickly cover the pot with a clean kitchen towel and a lid making sure the rice is sealed in tight. This is crucial as we will be pressure cooking the rice to an extent and then letting the grains steam until done. Let the rice sit like this on the lowest stove setting for 15 minutes. Set an alarm. Very important. Then remove from the stove and let it sit still closed and steam 3 more minutes untouched. Do not lift up the lid before this time is done.

Lift the lid, behold the fluffiest rice of your life and fluff it even more with a fork.

For white rice

Weigh out 166 grams of wild rice. Soak and rinse it once.

Weigh out 400 grams water, 10 grams olive oil and 2 grams salt. Add this all into the pot.

Quickly cover the pot with a clean kitchen towel and a lid making sure the rice is sealed in tight. This is crucial as we will be pressure cooking the rice to an extent and then letting the grains steam until done. Let the rice sit like this on the lowest stove setting for 1 hour. Set an alarm. Very important. Do not lift up the lid before this time is done. When the time is up the wild rice grains should have opened up and the water all gone.

How to Cook Perfect Rice Every Time

Melt butter in medium sauce pan over medium heat.

Add rice and mix well making sure to coat all the rice.

Add water and mix. Increase the heat to high to bring to a boil.

Once the water is boiling, add your salt, mix and place lid on top then reduce heat to low.

Cook on low for 10 minutes.

Remove from the heat and let rest for 5 minutes with the lid still on.

After resting, remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork.

Serve immediately.
