Filipino garlic fried rice is a delicious side dish you&#039;ll love for all meals. Hot and toasty with crisp garlic bits, this sinangag is the best use for leftover steamed rice.

Sinangag (Garlic Fried Rice)

cold, cooked white rice

canola oil

garlic,

salt and pepper

Separate rice

In a bowl, break cold rice to separate grains.

Toast garlic

In a wide skillet over low heat, heat about 1/4 cup oil. Add garlic and cook, stirring occasionally until golden brown. With a slotted spoon, remove the garlic and drain on paper towels.

Raise heat

Remove excess oil except for about 1 to 2 tablespoons. Raise heat to high, swirling the oil to coat the surface of the pan.

Add rice

Add rice and cook, spreading on the surface of the pan for about 45 seconds or until grains start to sizzle and then toss to redistribute. Repeat a few times until rice is heated through.

Toss in browned garlic

Return 3/4 of the garlic and toss with the fried rice until evenly distributed.

Season

Serve

To serve, transfer to a serving platter and top with the remaining garlic bits.

The first step to making this garlic soy butter is to make a roasted garlic oil. Put ten peeled cloves of garlic in a small oven safe ramekin or bowl. Cover the garlic cloves with just enough olive oil to cover each garlic clove (about 1/4 cup olive oil). Afterwards, sprinkle with salt and black pepper and cover tightly with foil. Put in the oven or toaster oven for 20-30 minutes at 375ºF. Use a fork to check that the cloves are soft and tender before taking them out of the oven.

In a new bowl, separate the roasted garlic cloves from the olive oil. Set olive oil aside to use for other recipes. Then to the roasted garlic cloves, add 2 tablespoons of fresh minced garlic, 1/2 cup of softened, unsalted butter, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons of soy sauce. Mix everything together until smooth. Store garlic soy butter in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to use.

Garlic Soy Butter

Prepare garlic soy butter according to instructions above and set aside 5 tablespoons of garlic soy butter.

Use a fork to break up the leftover rice.*

Dice onions and cut green onions into small pieces.In a small bowl, scramble 3 eggs with 1/2 teaspoon of chicken bouillon or salt.In a large pan or wok, heat up 3 tablespoons of oil using medium high heat.

Add in diced onions and cook until soft (about 2-3 minutes). Move all the cooked onions to one side of the pan and add in eggs. Cook eggs to a soft scramble then add in all the leftover rice. Lower heat to low medium. Mix everything together.

Add in 5 tablespoons of garlic soy butter, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, and green onions. Stir and cook until everything is mixed together and the green onions have softened (about 5 minutes). Enjoy garlic fried rice alone or topped with chili oil!

Add oil to a large skillet and heat over medium high heat. Add in garlic and green onions (white parts only) and cook for 3-4 minutes stirring constantly until the garlic and green onions are golden brown.

Drain the toasted garlic / onion mixture through a sieve and set aide. Save the oil.

To the same pan add 1 tablespoon of the reserved oil along with 1 tablespoon of butter. Heat over medium high heat and add in the eggs. Scramble the eggs, remove from the pan and set aside.

Add the remaining oil to the skillet and add in the rice. Toast the rice until it starts to get a little golden brown and warmed through.

Take off of the heat and stir in the cooked eggs, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper and green onions. Serve immediately and enjoy!

My take on the classic Japanese garlic fried rice is easy and quick, anyone can make it! The rice is buttery, garlicky and perfectly seasoned. It will be hard to stop at just one bowl!

Japanese Garlic Fried Rice

garlic (sliced)

butter

tbsp cooking oil

rice (see notes)

tsp sugar

pepper

tbsp Japanese mayo (optional)

green onions (for garnish)

Melt butter in a bit of cooking oil in a pan or wok over medium heat. Once the butter melts, add the sliced garlic and sauté for 2-3 minutes or until before the garlic turns golden brown.

Add the cold rice and break it up with a spoon if it&#39;s clumped together (see notes).

Season with light soy sauce, sugar, salt, pepper and Japanese mayo. Stir the rice to ensure it&#39;s evenly seasoned.

Push the rice to the side of the pan/wok and break an egg on the empty side.

Scramble and make sure it&#39;s cooked before stirring everything together. Garnish with green onions and enjoy!
