This easy and delicious Hawaiian Chicken Recipe brings your favorite Hawaiian flavors right to your kitchen table. Marinated in a mixture of pineapple juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, rice wine vinegar, lime juice, fresh garlic, and ginger, this Hawaiian chicken marinade is perfectly sweet and savory and takes just minutes to whip together.

Hawaiian Chicken

rice vine vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)

In a large mixing bowl, combine the pineapple juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, vegetable oil, lime juice, garlic, and ginger. Mix until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Put the chicken thighs in a resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over them. Remove as much air from the bag as possible and securely seal the bag. Massage the marinade into the chicken so that the chicken is completely coated.

Transfer the chicken to the refrigerator to marinate for at least 1 hour or up to overnight.

When ready to cook, remove the chicken from the refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking. Clean the grill grates and brush with oil or spray with non-stick cooking spray, then preheat the grill to medium-high heat.

Remove the chicken from the marinade and grill them for 5-7 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.

Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes.

In a mixing bowl, add pineapple juice from the can (about 1 cup), 1/3 cup chicken broth, ¼ cup soy sauce, 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 clove minced garlic, and 1 teaspoon grated ginger. If you like your food a bit spicy, you can add ¼ tsp red pepper flakes. Mix it together and set aside.

Preheat a large skillet over medium heat and add 2 teaspoons olive oil.

Add 1 pound chicken breasts cut into 1-inch pieces and season them with salt and pepper. Sear it for about 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is almost cooked through.

Add diced red bell pepper and cook for 2-3 minutes until it’s softened.

Add pineapple chunks and cook for another 3-4 minutes.

Add the sauce mixture to the pan, stir everything and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.

Mix 1 tbsp cornstarch with 2 tbsp water. Add the slurry gradually to the pan, until the sauce thickens to the desired consistency. Cook for a couple of more minutes.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onion before serving.

Hawaiian haystacks are a family favorite. This crockpot version is healthy, made without cream of soup, and completely customizable with all of your favorite toppings!

Slow Cooker Hawaiian Haystacks

Fill your slow cooker with 2 cups chicken broth. Add chicken breasts. Cover and cook for 2 hours on high or 4 hours on low.

About 20 minutes before serving, shred the chicken with two forks and keep in slow cooker.

Add flour to pan. In a medium sauce pan on the stove melt butter, stir in garlic until fragrant, then sprinkle in flour and stir. Slowly whisk in remaining 2 cups chicken broth and milk and stir until mixture clumps up. When mixture is thickened, stir in onion powder and salt.

Add cream mixture to slow cooker and stir to coat chicken. Cook for another 15 minutes. Serve over rice with your favorite toppings.

One of my all time favorite recipes! I cook my chicken in the instapot to make for faster cooking/preparation time! So delish, my favorite meal.

If garlic doesn't belong in your version of haystacks, then why on earth would you be dumb enough to add it? You obviously do not know how to cook, nor do you have common sense if you dont know how to customize a recipe per your families taste.

I've made many versions of hawiian haystacks and this one was the worst my family has tasted. Garlic does not go with hawaiian haystacks at all. Also, the directions weren't very good. I would recommend not using this recipe. That's what i get for trying an unrated recipe.
