Pre-heat oven to broil. Line a large baking sheet pan with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, combine all the meatball ingredients and mix until incorporated. Form into tablespoon sized meatballs and place them on the the prepared pan. You should get about 20 meatballs total.

Place in the oven on broil for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, set the oven to bake at 375°F. Bake the meatballs for an additional 10 minutes, or until cooked through.

Meatballs

While the meatballs are baking, heat a large pot over medium high heat. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil, and the chopped bell peppers. Stir to cook and soften the peppers for about 3 minutes. Remove from the pot and set aside.

In the same pot over medium high heat, add the chicken broth and the juice of the canned pineapple, about 1 cup. Reserve the pineapple chunks for later.

Add the soy sauce, vinegar, and brown sugar. Whisk to combine and simmer for 3 minutes.

In a small bowl, combine the water and cornstarch. Whisk until the cornstarch is dissolved. Pour into the pot and stir. Allow the mixture to simmer for 5 minutes while stirring occasionally so the bottom doesn't burn. Cook until sauce is thickened.

Add the cooked meatballs, cooked peppers, and pineapple chunks. Stir and warm all the ingredients together for about 3 minutes.

Serve with rice and chopped green onions for garnish.

These Hawaiian meatballs combine the savory flavors of beef meatballs with pineapple sweetness and BBQ sauce for juicy island-style flavor. The slow cooker method makes for tender bites and easy breezy cleanup.

Crockpot Hawaiian Meatballs

beef (makes about 50-60 meatballs)

petite diced onions

soy sauce (or Worcestershire sauce)

tbsp milk (as needed)

tsp salt

tsp chili flakes (or crushed red pepper)

vegetable oil (for frying)

pineapple chunks

bbq sauce

tbsp rice vinegar

brown sugar (light

tsp minced garlic

tsp ginger (minced)

In a large mixing bowl combine all ingredients for meatballs, except oil, with a spoon or your hands.

Using your hands, form 1-1.5 inch-sized meatballs, about 1 rounded tablespoon each. Set aside.

In a skillet over medium heat, add 1-2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add the meatballs and brown on several sides, 2-3 minutes per side. You may have to do this in two batches.

In the crockpot, stir together sauce ingredients until smooth. Some BBQ sauces are sweet enough on their own. Therefore, taste test the sauce before adding the brown sugar.

Add the meatballs and gently toss to coat, being careful not to break them up. Cook on low for 4 hours. If using frozen meatballs, increase to 5-6 hours or 2-3 hours on high.

Sauce and Crockpot

Tried this for the first time last night to bring to a get together. Was pretty easy and loved the photo of the ingredients so I knew what to find.

I didn't think this would be something I liked but it was good in stirfry, mom.

These Hawaiian Meatballs are the perfect combo of sweet and savory! They make a great appetizer or finger food, and are just as good as a kid-approved family dinner.

Huge hit at our community luau party. I used the 6lb bag of frozen Italian meatballs from Sam's Club along with the Baby Rays Sweet and Spicey sauce. All else was the same. I let them cook in the crockpot for about 3 1/2 hours. The Baby Rays gave it a really nice, but not overpowering, kick. I just brought the pot to the party, plugged it in to keep them warm, and by the end of the day all that was left was 2 meatballs. They received rave reviews from everyone there. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

Soccer moms (and dads) unite! I threw this in before practice and it was ready after practice!
Half of my crockpot, I used frozen impossible meatballs, and the other half I used frozen amour beef meatballs.

I served it over rice and the green beans would’ve been a really good side, so I’ll do that next time

I also served some of it on plain Hawaiian rolls, but now I realized you had posted a way to make it the Sammies even better. Will try next time!

Super delish. Thanks Kimber!
