Vegan Apple Crumb Pie 

almond flour

arrowroot powder

sea salt

lemon

maple syrup

cinnamon

ginger

cardamom

nutmeg

apples*,

oats

baking powder

Prep

Preheat the oven to 350F and set a pie or tart tin aside.

Make the Pie Crust: 

prepare the flax &#8220;eggs&#8221; and let sit for at least 5 minutes; In the meantime, whisk the almond flour, arrowroot powder, and salt together in a medium bowl until well combined. Add the thickened flax to the bowl and mix with a spatula, eventually switching to your hands to form a dough &#8220;ball.&#8221; Place the dough between two large sheets of parchment paper, and use a rolling pin to create a thin circle, wide enough to cover the base and sides of your pie tin. Remove one sheet of parchment paper and &#8220;flip&#8221; the crust into your pie dish; remove the top layer of parchment paper, then press the dough along the base and up the sides of the pie dish. Use a fork to create a few venting holes on the bottom and sides of the dish; Set aside.

Apple Filling: 

Whisk the lemon juice, maple syrup, arrowroot powder, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, and salt together in a large bowl until evenly combined. Thinly slice your apples using either a knife or mandoline (I recommend the latter) &#8211; I did not peel my apples, but you can if you&#8217;d like. Add the apples to the bowl with the spices and toss until the apples are coated. Transfer this mixture to the pie dish, then use your hands to spread the apples out evenly and make sure they are packed tightly.

Top with Crumble

Whisk the oats, almond flour, arrowroot powder, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt together in a bowl, until evenly distributed. Pour in the maple syrup and nut butter, then use a spatula to mix until a slightly sticky dough ball forms. Use your hands to crumble this ball evenly over the pie, aiming for smaller pieces vs. large clumps.

Bake

Place in the middle rack of the oven and bake for 28-30 minutes, until the crumble turns golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve warm, or let cool before serving. Serve as desired; leftovers will keep at room temperature for up to 5 days.

I made this today and it is incredible!!! I had to come and comment as soon as I finished enjoying this to let everyone know just how good it is. I cant believe how wholesome this recipie is and still tastes amazing. I substituted tapioca starch for arrowroot as that's what I had. Next time I may cut the apples in half as we had a hard time cutting through the pie piece while eating it, or it may have just been that we were trying to devour it too fast.

The ultimate healthy apple pie recipe that's secretly vegan and gluten-free! Topped with a flaky crust and caramelized gooey cinnamon apples, you'll never know this apple pie filling has no sugar added!

Best Healthy Homemade Apple Pie

servings Flaky Vegan Pie Crust (Gluten Free Option)

7-9 large apples, skinned, cored, and sliced very thin

tbsp lemon juice, or apple cider vinegar

tsp vanilla extract

tsp ground ginger

tbsp vegan butter or coconut oil, chilled

tbsp dairy free cream (such as coconut cream

tbsp raw sugar

First prepare the pie crust. Double the recipe and follow the directions listed in the Flaky Vegan Pie Crust recipe card, completely step 4. The only change you&#8217;ll need to make is when making the dough into a disk, separate it into 2 disks (one for the bottom crust, one for the top). Chill the disks for 30 minutes.

Continue on to follow step 5 through 7 with only 1 disk, rolling it out to be the bottom crust. Once the crust is in the pie dish, refrigerate the pie crust again, and proceed on with making the apple pie filling. 

Apple pie filling: 

Combine the thinly sliced apples in a bowl with the lemon juice, arrowroot powder, vanilla extract, and spices until evenly coated. 

Remove the pie dish and the second disk from the fridge. Pour the apple filling into the pie dish, arranging the apples so that they&#8217;re laying flat. Add in the tbsp vegan butter/coconut oil in cubes on top of the apples. Set aside.

Make the lattice crust according to the Flaky Vegan Pie Crust steps in the Notes section (starting at Step 3)

 To make the lattice, measure 10″ in length (if using a 10″ pie dish) and 1-1.5&#8243; in width for each strip of the lattice. Measure out 8-12 strips, depending on how many you want to go across each side. Drape half of the strips in one direction over the pie. Do not seal off the lattice yet. Now begin to weave the other strips going the opposite direction, lifting up every other strip to cover the opposite strip. Repeat for any remaining dough, alternating between which strips are folded and unfolded. Cut the loose ends of the strips, and gently tuck them underneath and into the first (bottom) pie crust.

Whisk together the coconut oil and maple syrup for the vegan &#8220;egg wash&#8221; and brush the pie crust. Sprinkle with coconut or raw sugar.

Refrigerate the pie for 30 minutes while you preheat the oven to 375F. 

When the oven is ready, place a pie onto a baking sheet, cover the crust fully with tinfoil,  and into the oven to bake for 25 minutes.

After 25 minutes, remove the tinfoil and bake for another 25 minutes, or until the crust looks lightly golden.

When the crust is golden and the filling is soft, remove from the oven and let cool for 1-2 hours to set before slicing into it.

Serve with homemade cashew milk ice cream or Paleo vegan ice cream and enjoy!

I was searching for an easy, gluten free, vegan, sugar and oil free apple pie recipe and found yours (yes, I know your recipe doesn't completely fit the bill but I was able to adapt it). I used a store bought frozen gluten and dairy free pie crust which did have sugar and oil in it (next time I'll make the crust from scratch though there is always a challenge in making a crust without shortening). I followed the pie filling recipe except did not add the tablespoon of vegan butter or coconut oil and didn't have any nutmeg. Also no vegan wash. My wife wanted raisins added to the filling because I had previously used a recipe that included raisins so I added 3/4 cup of raisins after that I soaked in water for 20 minutes so they would plump up. The apple filling was delicious - the best I ever had! I'm sure your recommendation to peel and slice the apples very thin made the difference. Thank you so much for an easy to make, simple yet delicious  apple pie recipe!

BEST EVER Homemade Healthy Apple Pie | Vegan, Gluten Free, No Sugar Added Filling!

This healthy mini apple pie recipe is a deliciously easy dessert made with a homemade cookie crust. These mini pies are made with almond flour, making them both gluten-free and low carb!

Healthy Mini Apple Pies

tsp baking powder

tsp salt

honey

coconut oil

tbsp butter (or coconut oil)

tbsp coconut sugar (or brown)

pumpkin

Preheat oven to 325F. Prepare mini muffin tin by greasing.

In a large bowl, mix the almond flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt with a whisk.

In a small bowl, combine egg, honey, and oil.

Add wet ingredients to almond flour mixture and stir till combined. Let dough rest for 5 minutes.

Press 1-2 Tbsp dough into mini muffin tin being sure you create a large dent in the middle.

Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. 

Let cool completely before adding apple topping.

While cooling, heat a small saucepan with 1 tbsp butter. Stir in apples, coconut sugar, and spice.

Let cook for 4-5 minutes or until just softened. Remove from heat.

Store in refrigerator if not enjoying immediately.

I really love apple desserts, and especially pastries. And most of all I love the combination of apples with seasonings (usually I add cinnamon and nutmeg together), when apple juice heats up and enters into a duet with seasonings, an incredible smell is obtained that spreads throughout the kitchen ... Granny Smith apples

1⁄2 tsp cinnamon

Tbsp butter

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Combine the apples, granulated sugar, applesauce, flour, lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon of the cinnamon in a large mixing bowl. Stir to thoroughly combine, then scrape into the pie shell. (Depending on the size of your apples, this may make more filling than you need. The apples should rise slightly over the pie shell, mounding in the center.) Combine the almonds, brown sugar, oats, butter, and remaining 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon in a bowl. Use your fingers to help break up the butter and mix with the other ingredients. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the pie. Place on the middle rack and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the apples are soft and the crust is golden brown. Cool before slicing and serving with scoops of vanilla ice cream.
