Apple Fritters

all purpose flour

sugar

baking powder

salt

cinnamon

milk

eggs

applesauce

canola oil

vanilla

Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in medium bowl. Make a well in the center and add 1/3 cup milk, eggs and applesauce. Stir just to combine. Fold in apples.

Heat 1 1/2 inches of oil in heavy skillet, dutch oven or deep fryer to 375 degrees.  Drop about 1/4 cup of batter per fritter into hot oil; spreading it out as you drop. Cook each side until golden brown; approximately 2 minutes per side.  Remove to paper towels to drain.

Whisk together 1/4 cup milk, powdered sugar and vanilla. Dunk each fritters in the glaze turning over to make sure both sides coated.  Place on wire racks to air dry and drip.

This recipe was perfect. No leftovers! My family of four loved them. Easy and worth the time.  I used a smaller pot and made them 2 at a time, took a little time but they came out so good you save the recipe.  Thank you for sharing!

I just made these.  The mess is still on my counter....lol.

I found 1 large apple provide *abundant* apple chunks in a single batch.

To my taste, these were very bready, but with a good flavor.   I’m from the south, where we like grease, so after the first couple fritters came out of the oil, I ended up adding vegetable oil to the batter (think waffles or funnel cakes) and I liked it better that way and the batter was more pourable.  Maybe the baking powder was too much?

Those fritters at Newport Beach still are the ones to beat.  I hope to find myself and my tour bus in CA next month to load up my freezer again.

Mine came out soft and kind of soggy. How do I get them crisp on the outside?

Just Made these for the first time.  Glad there was no yeast. Very quick and the fritters were light airy and tasty. I think I’ll add more cinnamon next time as I love it. These are very easy to make and kids love them. Only thing I did different was after chopping apples I added sugar and cinnamon to the apples and microwave to soften a little.

Who doesn't like apple fritters!!! They are one of my husband's favorites so I had to try it out before Father's Day so I could make him this treat. They came out so delicious that I was tempted to eat the whole batch myself! Heating the oil wasn't as tricky as I thought it would be and the fritters came out crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside.

The taste was incredible!  I did use 2 large apples - the dough was so thick I was unable to pour the batter into the hot oil.  It kind of all plopped into one 1/4 cup ball.  The problem with that is the middle did not get cooked.  Next time I will try a little less apple.  I stored the remaining  fritters in a air tight container.  The next day they were almost mushy.  They were crispy (and good!) the day of but this was disappointing.  After baking in the oven they did get a better.  Has anyone else encountered this?  Regardless, I will definitely try recipe again.  Thank you for sharing!.

Ok guys - I just made these and they are so good! I only had about an inch of oil and no candy thermometer but they still turned out delicious - the only issue with short oil is moving them constntly so they don't burn from touching the bottom... I measured the temp by placing a grain of rice in the oil and when it sizzled, I knew it was ready...and I had about a fourth of the batter left over after doing two batches of five critters each. My family went bonkers over them, I served them warm right away.thank you so very much!!

I made these, it took me almost an hour! But that's from getting everything ready and sitting down for a minute. Chopping the 2 largest apples I've ever seen. But that's ok, I used some for the applesauce! 
I also add a little cinnamon to my glaze and thinned it out with milk until it was the consistency I wanted. They turned out great!!!

Son loved these.  May use slight bit more of apple, but that depends upon the size of apples you use.  Also, I lightly drizzled the glaze on top of the fritters and used toasted cinnamon.  Cooked on induction stove at 4 of 10 for about 3 minutes on each side.  To determine doneness - it's like pancakes - when bubbles come-up and the hole stays there, your good to turn over for another 3 minutes.

Awesome recipe!  I didn’t have applesauce, so I used pineapple juice.  Added enough to the milk to make 1/2 liquid.  Also added a dash of nutmeg.  I live in the mountains, so I used a tablespoon of baking powder.  My first two fritters I just dropped the batter in and they didn’t get done, So a suggestion is to elongate when droppping the fritters in the oil.  Very light and fluffy!!!!

Deep fried dough filled with fresh apples and coated with a vanilla glaze, these easy homemade apple fritters are a delicious treat for breakfast or dessert!

Homemade apple fritters

honey apples

Eggs

Applesauce

flour

Baking powder

Cinnamon

tbsp salt

Powdered sugar

Vanilla

Milk

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt.

Make a well in the mixture and add 1/3 cup of milk, eggs and applesauce. Mix completely. Peal and dice the apples and fold into the batter.

In a pan or skillet, bring oil to 375°. Once oil is hot, drop 1/4 cup of batter in the oil.

Let it fry on each side for 3 minutes until golden brown. Remove and let rest on paper towels to help soak up excess oil.

Place fritters on a baking rack to cool

In a mixing bowl whisk the glaze ingredients together. Set rack of fritters on a baking sheet to catch the excess glaze while pouring glaze over the fritters. Glaze the fritters 2-3 times.
