You can make Ikea Swedish meatballs with a sauce just like they do!

Ikea Swedish Meatballs

potatoes

pork

heavy cream

butter (divided use)

soy sauce

Worcestershire sauce

Place potatoes into a large pot, add enough water to cover the potatoes.  cook potatoes over medium-high heat.  Cook potatoes for 8 to 10 minutes or until they are tender.   Drain, and set aside.&nbsp;

In a small skillet heat together 2 teaspoons of butter and chopped white onion.  Cook until tender, but do not let the onion brown.   In a large bowl combine ground beef, ground pork, 1 egg, heavy cream, cooked onion, salt, and white pepper.   Add 3/4 cup cooked potato to the bowl.  Use a mixer to combine the mixture.    Blend until the meatball mixture is smooth.

Form small balls out of the meat mixture.  Drop the meatballs into flour and roll gently in the flour.   Cook the meatballs in a large skillet with a tablespoon of butter.   Turn the meatballs every few minutes while cooking so they cook evenly.   Cook the meatballs for 15 minutes or until done.   The meatballs will be browned on all sides when they are finished.&nbsp;

To make the gravy, you may need to add another tablespoon of butter to the skillet.  Add 2 tablespoons of flour to the skillet.  Cook the roux for about two minutes.  Add the water and the heavy cream to the roux stir continually over medium heat.  The sauce will thicken.  Add soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce to the gravy.  Cook and heat through.&nbsp;

For the remaining potatoes not used in the meatballs, you can make mashed potatoes out of them.  Place warm cooked potatoes into a bowl, and add in butter and cream, and mix with a blender until smooth.  You will want to adjust for seasoning.

In a large mixing bowl, add beef and pork; mix thoroughly to break up any lumps. Add finely chopped onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, and egg, and mix to combine. Add milk, and season well with salt and pepper.

Shape mixture into small, round balls. Place on a clean plate, cover and store in the fridge for 2 hours (to help them hold their shape while cooking).

In a frying pan, heat oil over medium heat. When hot, gently add meatballs and brown on all sides.

When browned, add to an ovenproof dish and cover. Place in a hot oven, 350°F. or 180°C., and baked for 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, make the sauce. Melt the butter in a frying pan. Whisk in the plain flour and continue cooking, stirring continuously for 2 minutes.

Slowly add in vegetable stock and beef stock, whisking continuously. Stir in the heavy cream, soy sauce and Dijon mustard.

Bring to a simmer and allow the sauce to thicken. Continue to stir.

When ready to eat, serve with your favorite potatoes or noodles.

Enjoy a single serving of Swedish Meatballs in 30 mins! A simple, delightful recipe with rich flavors, perfect for a relaxing, tasty meal at home.

Swedish Meatballs For One

onions

parsley

black pepper

nutmeg

olive oil

salted butter

all purpose flour

beef broth

sour cream

Whisk the egg yolk in a medium-sized bowl until lightly mixed. Add the onions, parsley, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and allspice and stir to combine.

Add the ground pork and ground beef to the egg mixture. Use your hands or a large spoon to thoroughly mix the egg mixture into the ground meat mixture.

Scoop the meatballs into 2-inch portions and use the palms of your hands to roll them into smooth balls. Set aside.

Heat oil in a 10-inch skillet or sauté pan over medium heat. Add the meatballs to the pan and cook, turning them every 2 minutes until browned on all sides, about 8 minutes total. Transfer the meatballs to a plate.

Melt butter in the same skillet. Add flour and stir to form a paste; cook, stirring frequently for 30 seconds.

Add beef broth and whisk until smooth; bring to a simmer. Return meatballs to the pan and simmer in the gravy, uncovered, until the meatballs are cooked through and the gravy has thickened, about 5-7 minutes.

Remove from heat and stir in sour cream. Taste the gravy and add additional salt, if needed. Enjoy the meatballs and gravy as-is or serve with pasta or mashed potatoes.

Your Swedish meatballs turned out great. I used hi-grade pork and beef. Your spice mixture for the sauce was perfect. I'm a big fan of allspice and nutmeg --I grate my nutmeg fresh. For a guy who lately has been living on your Twice-baked Potatoes, this was a nice change of pace. Keep the onesies coming.

I made the Swedish meatballs tonight, and they were wonderful. I used frozen Swedish meatballs from that i had bought from that big Swedish home store and had in the freezer, but made the sauce from your recipe. The only change I made was to add a little ground nutmeg because the ingredients list on the meatballs didn't list it. I will most certainly make this again. Thanks for all of the great recipes.

I've already made this twice and the last time was 30 years ago!  They are delicious.

Ikea-inspired Swedish Meatballs are tender and juicy, cooked in a creamy beef broth sauce, and served over mashed potato, noodles, or rice!

Authentic Swedish Meatballs and Sauce Recipe

lb pork

flat leaf parsley (minced)

½ tsp ground allspice

yellow onion (grated (about 1 medium onion))

tsp salt

½ tsp pepper (freshly ground)

panko*

eggs

all-purpose flour

¼ tsp pepper

lemon juice

¼ tsp ground allspice

In a large bowl, mix the beef, pork, parsley, allspice, nutmeg, grated onion, salt, pepper, garlic, panko and eggs until combined.

Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, measure out the meat mixture into roughly 35 (1.5 inch) balls.

In a large pan, heat 2 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add ½ of the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. This takes about 5 minutes. Set aside.

When all of the meatballs are browned, pour off any excess grease in the pan, into a heatproof vessel.

Meatballs

Lower the heat to medium and add the butter to the pan. When the butter begins to bubble, sprinkle in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Add the beef broth to the pan a little at a time.

Whisk the gravy until the broth is all incorporated. Add salt, pepper, lemon juice, allspice and nutmeg. Whisk a few more times. Slowly add the cream.

Once the gravy begins to simmer, add the meatballs back into the pan.

Simmer until the gravy has thicken up a bit and the meatballs are cooked all the way through, about 8-10 minutes.

Serve warm over mashed potatoes or egg noodles, alongside steamed veggies and lingonberry jam.
