Imitation crab ((30 leg-style crab sticks))

Masago ((Capelin fish roe))

cucumber

mayonnaise ((Hellman's Brand))

Tbsp sriracha sauce

julienne crab sticks

Run a fork through each crab stick and transfer them into a large bowl.

Add remaining salad ingredients together

Add the remaining salad ingredients; julienned cucumbers, mayonnaise, and sriracha sauce. Toss to coat and serve immediately.

Instructions:

Kani Salad [Japanese Crab Salad]

500 g crab stick (defrosted)

carrot (medium)

mango (medium)

cucumber (medium)

salt (to taste)

pepper (to taste)

mayonnaise (Kewpie)

tsp sriracha

lemon (juiced)

Defrost the crab sticks and remove the wrappers. With your fingers, gently pry the strands of crab apart.

Peel the carrot and mango and julienne to the same length and thickness.

Julienne the cucumber with the skin on to the same length and thickness as the carrot and mango. Do not include the seeds, as the salad will get soggy.

Salad

In a small mixing bowl, add the Kewpie mayonnaise, sriracha sauce and the juice of ½ a lemon.

Mix until well combined.

Salad Dressing

In a mixing bowl, add all the ingredients together.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Serve.

Kani salad is a light, refreshing Japanese dish made with shredded imitation crab, cucumber, avocado, and carrots, all tossed in a creamy Japanese mayo dressing and topped with sesame seeds. It's perfect as an appetizer or light meal!

Kani Salad Recipe

imitation crab (kani), shredded

cucumber,

avocado,

carrot,

mayonnaise

soy sauce

sesame oil

sesame seeds (for garnish)

Nori (seaweed), thinly sliced (optional)

Wasabi (optional,

Prep the Vegetables

Thinly slice or julienne the cucumber and carrots. Cube or slice the avocado. Set the vegetables aside in a large mixing bowl.

Shred the Imitation Crab

Using your hands or a fork, shred the imitation crab into bite-sized pieces, and add them to the bowl with the vegetables.

Make the Dressing

In a small bowl, mix Japanese mayonnaise, soy sauce, and sesame oil until smooth and well combined.

Toss the Salad

Pour the dressing over the kani and vegetables. Gently toss everything together until all ingredients are evenly coated.

Garnish and Serve

Sprinkle sesame seeds on top, and garnish with thinly sliced nori and wasabi if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Kani Salad (Japanese Crab Salad)

oz imitation crab sticks ((approx. 2 cups

cucumber ((approx 1 cup.))

green onion

Japanese fish roe/eggs ((Optional))

Japanese Kewpie Mayonnaise ((or regular mayonnaise))

honey

sesame seeds

Sriracha chili sauce

If your crab sticks are frozen, defrost them in the fridge for a few hours until they are pliable before using them.

Toast the sesame seeds it in a dry pan for 1-2 minutes. Make sure you watch it carefully and keep moving the sesame seeds so it doesn&#39;t burn. Set it aside and let it cool

If your crab sticks come individually wrapped, remove the plastic wrap and hand shred the crab into thin slices. If you are using imitation crab chunks, use a knife and roughly chop them into big chunks. Place it into a large mixing bowl.

Finely slice the green onions and place them into the bowl with the crab.

(Optional) If you are using Japanese fish roe/eggs, add them into the bowl with the crab meat.

Finely slice the cucumber into matchsticks. If you are mixing it with the crab salad, put it in the bowl with the crab. If you are placing the crab salad on top of the cucumber, set aside the cucumber.

In a small bowl, mix all the kani salad dressing ingredients together (including the toasted sesame seeds) and pour it into the bowl with the crab meat.

Mix everything together and garnish with toasted sesame seeds and green onions

Serve it on top of the cucumber slices and enjoy!

Great recipe - very detailed too with alternative ingredients (I liked that as I didn't have it all, but still was delicious!). I like that you have a way to multiply up the ingredients too - good time saver.
