This Classic Meatloaf is probably just like your grandmother made! This meatloaf has a tangy and sweet BBQ style sauce on the top and is so moist!

Classic Meatloaf

bread crumbs

c Milk

eggs

beef

c diced onion

c celery

Tbsp ketchup

sage

thyme

salt and pepper (to taste)

c ketchup

Tbsp brown sugar

Tbsp worchestershire sauce

tsp white vinegar

onion powder

tsp garlic, granulated

Preheat oven to 350°F

Soak bread crumbs in milk for 5 minutes.

Whisk eggs.

Add all ingredients to a large bowl and mix thoroughly, but do not overwork.

Place meatloaf in a large bread pan, spray with cooking spray.

Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until browned on top and internal temperature measures 165°F. In the last 10 minutes, glaze the top with lots of the sauce.

Add all ingredients to small pot. Cook over medium low heat, stirring occasionally.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Gently combine all ingredients except ketchup in a large bowl. Transfer to a greased loaf pan.

Bake (uncovered) for about 60 minutes, or until meatloaf reaches an internal temperature of 160°F and juices run clear. Tilt the pan to drain off the grease; spread ketchup on top, and return to the oven for 10 more minutes.

Let stand 5 minutes before slicing.

Set the oven to 350°F.

Ground beef, garlic, breadcrumbs, onion, egg, milk, salt, and pepper should all be combined in a sizable mixing basin.

With your hands, thoroughly blend the ingredients.

Shape the ingredients into a loaf and transfer it to a pan.

Spread Worcestershire sauce and ketchup together in a small bowl and apply to the meatloaf&#39;s top.

The internal temperature must reach 160°F after roughly an hour of baking.

Give the meatloaf some time to rest before slicing and serving.

Moms Meatloaf Recipe

Eggs

(diced)

Bread Crumbs

Ketchup (divided)

Worcestershire (divided)

Salt and Pepper

Powder

Parsley

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

In a small bowl mix together 1/4 cup of the ketchup and 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, mix together and set aside for later basting.

Throw 1 pound of ground beef 80/20 fat content into a big bowl. Break up into chunks and salt and pepper.   Just give the salt shaker a couple of good shakes, and a little more with the pepper.  If you like garlic shake in a bit of garlic powder, NOT garlic salt.

Dice up ½ a medium onion and toss into the bowl.

Squirt in ketchup, probably about ¼ cup to start.

Shake in Worcestershire sauce until it just smells right, about 1 tablespoon. It’s a personal preference with the amount. If you really have no idea how much to use then give the bottle a couple of good shakes to start.

In a small bowl, lightly beat two eggs and mix into the ground beef mixture

Pour in a ½ cup of plain bread crumbs.

Use a wooden spoon to get everything mixed up nicely. Compress into a big ball.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and plop the meatloaf onto the lined baking sheet and mold the meatloaf into a rectangle.

Put the meatloaf into the oven and bake for about 15 minutes then baste with the ketchup Worcestershire sauce. Continue cooking for a total of 60 minutes.  Use a thermometer to check the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees to ensure it’s fully cooked.

I like a little crispy to the sides so I broil at the end for a couple of minutes. Watch it so you don’t burn the top.

A friend gave me your recipe and it really is the best homemade meatloaf I’ve tasted. Really is like Moms! anyway I wanted to leave a rating and let you know i live it and its my go to recipe!

Love it. Easy!  Today I put the same amount of oatmeal into a grinder to use in place of the breadcrumbs. Should be fine. It's my 'go to' recipe because I like to use just one lb ground beef usually and I always have these ingredients. I don't always have breadcrumbs but do always have oatmeal.

I used one egg and cut the bread crumbs  in half and added about about 1/4 cup of sliced green olives, cutting down the salt to make up for it since they are so salty. The recipe is a great base recipe for a one 1 lb meatloaf and I daresay it would work for a 2 lb one too, using the 2 eggs and half cup of bread crumbs.  My meatloaf was done in about 45 minutes.

Awesome.  Easy. Did it as written but used up half a pepper with the half onion. Also added Italian seasoning thinking the recipe would call for seasoned bread crumbs LOL. Mine are plain. It's great. I like to cook an entire pound, just one, of ground beef in a meatloaf so I can save leftovers if I am alone or also with one other person sharing a meal. The cooking of veggies first really is not necessary.  Milk was not necessary. It worked great and I didn't have to measure anything.  Thank You so much. It's a keeper.

I'm so glad I found this recipe and website! I've made this one-pound meat loaf so many times and really love it. I'm a simple cook so I substitute garlic and herb chunky tomato sauce for the ketchup and herbs, and I use panko to keep this gluten-free. I'm exploring more recipes on this site!

thank u so much for the recipe, my husband usually does all the cooking and he's very good, so when he started a new job with very long hours, I had to start trying to have something for him to eat when he would get home. but to take the chance of messing things up and challenging myself to the test of my husband, was very nerve racking to say the least! but u have to start somewhere and if I mess up my husband doesn't even have to know about it! but on that note, I've been making a few things and they actually turned out great! my husband has been praising me on making great dinners, and I'm gaining a lot of confidence! so tonight I'm trying out ur meatloaf and it sounds like I will b able to handle it well! thank u for ur easy recipe and advice, wish me luck!

Perfect beginners recipe! I may have made meatloaf before but it was decades ago and apparently forgettable. I had the ingredients all on hand and used exactly as prescribed with extra shakes of salt, pepper and garlic powder. Split into two mini loaf pans. used one small whole wheat slice of bread, toasting it first until crispy, then crumbling it with fingers to reasonable course crumb size. Ended up cooking only one mini loaf to save time (half the recipe mix) and used half the time suggested for full recipe on that one mini loaf: 9 mins at first, then basted, then another 30 mins until done. Just checked for doneness by slicing inside and it looked good to me! No thermometer used. Saved the other mini loaf for another day as only two of us eating. Yummy taste and very simple. Thank you! This is a keeper!
