Homemade French Onion Dip

tbsp butter

onions

salt

tsp black pepper

onion powder

cayenne pepper

oz / 120 g cream cheese

egg mayonnaise

sour cream

Melt the butter in a fry pan over medium heat.

Add the onions, salt, pepper, onion powder and cayenne pepper. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring. Then reduce the heat to medium low and cook for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. The onions should be sweet and golden. Remove from stove and allow to cool.

Place the cream cheese, sour cream and mayo in a bowl, mix until smooth (use microwave in 10 sec bursts if needed to assist)

Add the caramelised onions. Mix until just combined. Refrigerate at least 2 hours to allow flavours to develope, overnight is better!

Serve at room temperature, garnished with chopped chives if desired. Best served with crinkle cut plain potato chips!

Caramelized Onion Bacon Dip

olive oil

bacon (uncooked and chopped)

onion (finely chopped)

sour cream (I love Oberweis Cultured Sour Cream)

chives

cheddar cheese

salt and pepper

Heat a medium skillet over medium high heat. Add the oil and chopped bacon into the skillet and cook until crispy, about 6-8 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to remove bacon from the skillet and place on a paper towel to drain.

Add the chopped onion into the skillet with the bacon grease and caramelize for about 10 minutes, or until fully browned and translucent. Remove onion from the skillet and allow to drain/cool.

In a medium bowl, stir together the sour cream, bacon, onion, chives, shredded cheese, and salt and pepper.

Allow to sit in the fridge in an airtight container for at least an hour to fully chill and for flavors to all blend together.

Serve with chips or chopped veggies.

Onion Bacon Dip

This caramelized onion dip is a total crowd pleaser! Serve with chips, pita or bagel crisps, or on sandwiches and burgers. YUM.

Caramelized Onion Dip

salted butter

salt and sugar

white wine

cream cheese, softened

parsley

soy sauce (!!)

Prep

 Peel the onions and slice them very thinly. I find it helpful to use a mandoline for this.

Sauté

Heat the butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the onions, sprinkle with salt and sugar, and saute for 10-15 minutes, stirring every few minutes. Pour a little bit of wine in and let it sizzle out. Stir, add wine, sizzle, etc. After about 30 minutes, your onions should be deeply golden brown and fragrant.

Mix: 

Transfer onions to a cutting board and chop coarsely into small pieces &#8211; or just use a kitchen scissors and snip them up right in the pan. Mix the cream cheese and sour cream. Mix in the onions and a handful of fresh parsley. Taste and season &#8211; if you want just a little sumthin sumthin extra, add a small splash (like, a tablespoon or less) of soy sauce and/or Worcestershire. This just gives it a little depth and umami flavor.

I find the BEST caramelized onions come from my cast iron skillet.  Skillets take work to maintain but the results are WORTH IT! I actually just made caramelized onions in a reg ole non-stick last night and it was just not comparable!! Definitely trying this recipe for Friday night :)

This looks absolutely fabulous! I'll probably try it as is (and eat store brand French onion while I make it), but for those who really need it healthier or vegan I'd sub a block of soft tofu soaked in salt water and lemon juice for half an hour blended with a few tablespoons coconut oil for the sour cream and cream cheese. Four Onion Dip 

butter

white onion, diced

red onion, diced

onion,

green onions, chopped

brown sugar

white wine vinegar

worcestershire sauce

cream cheese (1 package), softened

mayonnaise

parmesan cheese

Over medium heat, melt the butter in a skillet. Add the white, red, and sweet onion and sauté for 5 minutes. Add the green onions and brown sugar and cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring every couple minutes.

Add the white wine vinegar and worcestershire sauce. Cook for another 5 minutes, or until the onions are all very tender and turning a golden caramel color.

Add the cream cheese to the skillet and stir to combine with the onions.

Transfer the mixture to an 8x8 baking dish and stir in the sour cream and mayonnaise.

Top with parmesan cheese and bake for 20-22 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Make your own homemade onion soup mix to keep on hand to flavor dips and main dish recipes.

dry onion flakes (also called dehydrated onion)

thyme

paprika

dry mustard

In a small mixing bowl, combine all ingredients.

Store in an airtight container.

To use, stir into recipes as you would commercial onion soup mix (about 1 to 2 tablespoons per 1/2 cup sour cream for dip).

This caramelized shallot dip is perfect for any holiday appetizer table. Cook shallots until they&#39;re sweet and caramelized and toss with tart Greek yogurt, Dijon mustard and mayonnaise for a creamy dip that is fresh and delicious.

In a medium saute pan or skillet, set over medium low heat, add the olive oil and butter. When the butter is melted, add in the shallots and sprinkle with a pinch of salt. Cover the pan and cook for about 10 minutes. This will sweat a lot of the water out of the pan. Uncover and stir continuously until caramelized, an additional 10 minutes or so.

Fold in the garlic and cook for an additional minute or so. Transfer to a medium bowl and allow to cool.

In the medium bowl with the shallots, add the Greek yogurt, a few rounds of black pepper, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard and give it a thorough mix. Mix until combined. Give it a taste and adjust the seasoning to your liking.

Transfer to a serving bowl and top with tons of chives on top. Serve with chips.

Vegan French Onion Dip

Sweet Onion

½ cup Vegetable Broth

Cashews, soaked for at least 4 hours

oz Silken Tofu

½ tsp Garlic Powder

tsp Nutritional Yeast

tsp Vegan Worcestershire Sauce

tbsp Fresh Parsley, finely chopped

Black Pepper,

Crunchmaster Crackers,

Finely dice the Onion, then and add it to a large non-stick pot with a splash of Vegetable Broth. Sauté the Onion and Vegetable Broth together over medium-high heat. Sauté the Onions as you normally would in the pan, but let all of the Vegetable Broth evaporate. Let the Onions “sit” in the pan for 10-20 seconds without liquid, then “deglaze” the pan using a splash of Vegetable Broth. Repeat this process until all of the Vegetable Broth has been used, and the Onions are tender and dark brown.

Add 1/2 cup of the Caramelized Onions to the blender with the Soaked Cashews, Tofu, Garlic Powder, Nutritional Yeast, Worcestershire Sauce, and Salt. Blend everything until smooth and creamy, then transfer into a bowl and fold in the remaining Caramelized Onions.

Place the dip in the fridge for at least 10 minutes, to allow it to thicken and set. Top with fresh Parsley and Black Pepper, and serve with Crunchmaster Crackers. Leftovers will last in the fridge for up to 10 days.

(16 ounces or 2 cups) sour cream

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a small baking sheet with parchment paper or use a large baking dish.

Toss the chopped onions with the melted butter and spread them into a thin layer on the baking sheet.

Roast, stirring every 10 minutes, until the onions are soft, smell sweet, and turn a light golden color, 50 to 60 minutes. Keep a closer eye towards the end of the cooking time to ensure the onions do not overbrown.

Transfer the onions while they are still hot to a mixing bowl and scrape all the butter left in the pan into the bowl with the onions.

Stir in the salt, pepper, and sour cream.

Cover and refrigerate overnight, and then serve. The dip will last up to 4 days in the fridge. Stir well before serving.

I  test drove  this recipe for Super Bowl and made a half batch. It was AMAZING, seriously AMAZING!  I accidentally used a whole onion but then I later read a comment where you said it's ok to adjust the amount of onions used. It is mind blowing how those simple 5 ingredients came together. This dip was easy, but my family and I found it to be too sweet. When I make it again I will use yellow onion instead of sweet onion.
