This orange frosting is sweet and tangy. It&#x27;s an easy buttercream recipe with a bold orange flavor from fresh orange zest.

Orange Frosting

unsalted butter (room temperature)

sugar

orange zest (zest of 1 large orange)

salt

Beat butter on high speed with an electric mixer for about three minutes until light and airy.

Mix in powdered sugar a little bit at a time.

Add zest and salt and continue to beat for another minute.

If desired, add more powdered sugar to make the buttercream frosting stiffer.

Orange Crush Cupcakes are soft, fluffy and moist cupcakes made with only two ingredients - a vanilla cake mix and a can of sweet and delicious orange Crush soda!

Orange Crush Cupcakes

white cake mix

orange Crush soda

butter (softened)

confectioner’s sugar

Tbs orange jello

Tbsp orange Crush soda

vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 350°F. 

Place cupcake liners in each of 24 regular-size muffin cups in a cupcake pan.

In a large mixing bowl combine the cake mix and orange Crush soda until smooth, about 2-3 minutes. Scrape the sides of the bowl.

Pour batter into muffin cups about ¾ full. 

Bake 15 to 18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. 

Remove from oven and let cool in pan for 10 minutes. Remove cupcakes from the pan and let continue cooling on a cooling rack. 

For the Cupcakes:

In a medium bowl combine butter and confectioners sugar, one cup of sugar at a time. Add in orange jello, orange Crush soda, and vanilla and mix until smooth. 

Frost cupcakes and decorate as desired.

Moist Orange Cake

flour (plain, all purpose (see note 1 if you want to use cake flour))

cornstarch

2¼ tsp baking powder

unflavoured vegetable oil (I use canola oil)

white granulated sugar

tsp orange zest (see note 2)

eggs (room temperature)

milk

orange juice (freshly squeezed)

vanilla extract/essence

cream cheese ( cold, firm type (see note 5))

tsps orange zest (see note 2)

Preheat oven to 180 °C (350°F) (see note 3 if using a fan function) and grease and/or line two 8 inch cake tins (I use my homemade cake release).

Sift together flour, cornstarch, baking powder and salt. Mix together using a whisk or fork and set aside.

In a large bowl add in butter, vegetable oil, sugar and orange zest. Using a hand or stand mixer on a medium speed, cream together for 2 minutes until light and creamy.

Add in eggs one by one, mixing well in between addition.

Add in milk, orange juice and vanilla. Mix until well combined. Now set your mixer aside as the remainder of the batter will be finished by hand.

Add your pre-sifted dry ingredients to your wet mixture, and using a spatula, fold  until just combined. Do not overmix, so only fold until you can&#39;t see anymore streaks of flour and the batter is uniform.

Distribute the batter evenly into the two 8 inch cake tins. Level the tops and drop the cake tins lightly on the counter to remove any large air bubbles. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs on it.

Once baked, allow the cake layers to cool in the cake tins for about 15-20 minutes, before turning them out onto a wire rack to completely cool.

Orange Cake

Cream your butter for a few minutes until it&#39;s light and fluffy. Either use a hand mixer or stand mixer on a medium high speed. If using a stand mixer, use the paddle attachment.

Add in the powdered sugar in 3 batches while mixing on a low speed. Ensure that each batch of powdered sugar is mixed into the butter well before adding in the next batch.

Next add in the cold cream cheese, vanilla, orange zest and fresh orange juice. Mix just until the frosting is smooth. Avoid over-mixing (see note 6).

IMPORTANT: In the video I mention 90g or 3/4s of a cup of milk, however it should be 90g or 5½ tbsp of milk! So sorry about that don't know how I got that wrong! Thank you so much to everyone who brought that to my attention :)

▢2¼ cups (270 g) flour - plain, all purpose
▢⅓ cup (40 g) cornstarch
▢2¼ tsp baking powder
▢½ tsp salt
▢¾ cup (170 g) unsalted butter - room temperature
▢⅓ cup (75 g) unflavoured vegetable oil - I use canola oil
▢1¼ cups (250 g) white granulated sugar
▢3 tsp orange zest 
▢3 large eggs - room temperature
▢5½ tbsp (90 g) milk - room temperature, full-fat
▢½ cup (112 g) orange juice - freshly squeezed
▢2 tsp vanilla extract/essence

🔹Orange Cream Cheese Frosting

▢1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter - room temperature
▢4½ cups (570 g) powdered sugar - also known as icing/confectioners sugar. Use more for a thicker frosting (see note 4)
▢1½ cups (335 g) cream cheese -  cold, firm type 
▢1½ tsp vanilla extract/essence
▢2 tsps orange zest
▢1½ tbsp orange juice - freshly squeezed

The most velvety soft ORANGE CAKE I've ever had

This buttercream frosting recipe transforms classic American buttercream into a fresh and fluffy batch of Orange Frosting with REAL orange flavor -no flavoring extracts necessary! This naturally flavored frosting Is perfect to top all kinds of cakes and cupcakes!

5 Minute Fluffy Orange Buttercream

unsalted butter (at room temperature)

orange (large)

tbsp milk (or cream)

kosher salt

In the bowl of a hand or stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, combine the 3 1/2 cups confectioners sugar and 1/2 cup unsalted butter.

Mix on low speed working up to medium as the sugar combines with the butter. About 2-3 mins.

Stop the mixer and scrape down the sides.

Zest the whole orange over the bowl, it&#39;s best to do it this way so you save all the oils. Add 1-2 tsp orange juice to the bowl. Mix on low.

With the mixer on low add the heavy cream or milk slowly.

Mix on medium for 3 minutes and enjoy!

If its too thin add 1/4 cup powdered sugar. If its too thick, add in 1 tsp more orange juice.

I just wanted to thank you for sharing such a quick, rich, potent and easy recipe, especially for those of us still new to -- and nervous about -- baking! I've revisited your page to make this at least 3 times now and can't wait to make your 5-minute raspberry buttercream next! 

I also appreciate the details and tips regarding what to expect should we stray a bit from the instructions. Made me feel safe to explore and play with the amount of zest but with training wheels on, if that makes any sense. xD 
My point being that a voice like yours -- one that allows for just as much artistic freedom in the craft as science -- makes better bakers of us all!

Orange Cupcakes

all purpose flour

baking powder

unsalted butter

orange zest (from about 2 large or 3 medium oranges)

eggs (at room temperature)

sour cream

orange juice (from about 1 large or 2 medium oranges)

sugar (240 grams)

unsalted butter (115 grams)

orange zest (from one large orange or two medium)

orange juice

heavy cream

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C), or 160°C for a fan oven, and line a 12-count muffin pan with paper liners.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together the sugar, butter and orange zest until smooth. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.

Add the flour mixture and mix until just combined. Add the sour cream and orange juice and gently stir to combine.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared muffin cups. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Allow to cool 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the cupcakes:

In a large bowl add half the powdered sugar, butter and orange zest and mix until smooth. Add the remaining powdered sugar and mix well.

Add the orange juice and vanilla and mix to combine. Add the heavy cream as needed and mix to achieve desired consistency.

Pipe or spread over the cooled cupcakes.
