These oven baked ribs are made with a Chinese BBQ Pork (Char Siu) marinade. It&#x27;s better than any BBQ sauce you&#x27;ve ever tasted. The ribs cook in just 1 hour!

Char Siu-Style Oven Baked Ribs

baby back ribs ((1.4 kg))

sugar ((50 grams))

salt

five spice powder

white pepper

sesame oil

shaoxing wine

soy sauce

hoisin sauce

molasses

red food coloring ((optional))

garlic ((finely minced))

Rinse the ribs and thoroughly pat them dry with paper towels. Mix the rest of the ingredients in a bowl to make the marinade.

Reserve about ⅓ of the marinade, and rub the ribs with the rest of it. Allow the ribs to marinate for at least 2 hours. For best results, allow to marinate overnight. 

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees, and put the ribs on a rack resting on a baking sheet. Pour 1 cup water into the pan, and transfer to the oven. Roast for 30 minutes.

Remove the ribs from the oven and baste with the marinade. Return to the oven and roast for another 30 minutes.

Allow the ribs to rest for 5 minutes. Slice and serve!

These Sticky Hoisin Oven Baked Ribs are fall off the bone tender. The glaze gives these baby back ribs a delicious sticky coating. The asian flavors of this recipe are incredible, and we love serving these ribs with some white rice.

Sticky Hoisin Oven Baked Ribs

(3 lb) rack baby back ribs

light brown sugar

garlic powder

ginger

sea salt

cumin

cayenne pepper

cinnamon

sake (or white wine or chicken stock)

rice wine vinegar

shallots

garlic cloves,

honey

ponzu sauce

brown sugar

green onions, thinly sliced

sesame seeds

Place ribs on a baking sheet, lined with foil.

Mix together all the dry rub ingredients until well combined.

Cover ribs with the dry rub, on both sides, until fully coated and tightly wrap with plastic wrap.

Refrigerate and allow ribs to marinate for at least 12 hours (and up to 24 hours).

Preheat oven to 325˚F.

In a liquid measuring cup whisk together all braising liquid ingredients.

Remove ribs from the refrigerator and unwrap just enough to pour liquid over ribs then tightly rewrap.

Place foil wrapped ribs into oven for about 2 1/2 hours.

While the ribs bake, combine all glaze ingredients into a small saucepan.

Stir together and  simmer for 10 to 12 minutes or until the glaze reduces and thickens slightly. Remove from heat and cool.

Remove ribs from the oven and carefully unwrap. Remove ribs from the foil completely and place back onto the baking sheet, meat side down.

Turn broiler on high in oven.

Brush some of the glaze over the ribs and carefully flip over. Brush the glaze over the meaty side of the ribs and place under broiler for 2 to 3 minutes.

Brush ribs with more glaze and return to broiler for an additional 2 to 3 minutes or until caramelized and the edges begin to crisp.

Remove from broiler and allow ribs to rest for about 5 to 10 minutes. Top with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve.

How to Cook Beef Ribs in the Oven

You can use store bought barbecue sauce to make this recipe and I did for a long time. Now I always try and use homemade and switch it up a little each time.

This Barbecue Sauce recipe takes minutes to prepare, makes around 2 cups total and will last in your fridge for up to 3 days in an airtight container. 

Start by using 1 1/2 cups ketchup, add the rest of the ingredients and taste. Whisk together all ingredients in a small bowl and decide if you want to add any of the options listed.

I like starting with the 1 1/2 cups of ketchup and if you add too much of anything you can always dilute the flavor by adding in the extra 1/4 - 1/2 cup of ketchup.

Taste as you go and decide the way you like it. The next time you make it you will know exactly the way you like it or you can keep trying something different.

Homemade Barbecue Sauce

Prepare a large rimmed baking sheet with tinfoil and set aside.  Tear 2 large pieces of tinfoil, large enough to totally wrap each rack of ribs, and set aside.

Getting Your Ribs Ready

Next, we recommend that you remove the silver skin or skin like membrane on the underside or back of the ribs. This is the worst part about making ribs but well worth it.  Be patient and try not to give up.  Start in the middle of the rack and scrape along the bone with your finger or a knife.  You are trying to lift that membrane or skin up.  Slide your finger under the membrane and slowly try to tear it off the entire rack.  You may need to use a piece of paper towel to get a good grip.  Hold your ribs down while you pull the membrane across the back of the entire rack of ribs.  You can ask your butcher to do this when you purchase the ribs.  It is not necessary but the ribs will taste better.  You will be glad you did.  Do the best you can.  Repeat with your other rack. Rinse and dry ribs completely with paper towel after removing each membrane.

Remove the Membrane

In a small bowl combine cumin, paprika, chili powder, garlic, onion, salt, pepper and brown sugar.  Mix well and set aside.

Preheat your oven to 275 degrees.  

Apply the spice mixture all over your beef rib racks, top and bottom.  Use all of it and massage the mixture into the ribs.

Place each rack on top of each piece of tinfoil and wrap up your ribs.

Place the ribs with the bony side up or the meaty side down and fold the top and sides over so the ribs are totally sealed inside.

Do not pile your ribs on top of each other.  Put the ribs into the oven, on the middle rack, for between 3 and 4 hours.

After 3 or 4 hours, take the ribs out of the oven open up one pouch.  Be careful, hot steam will pour out of the tinfoil when you open it. 

We find that our ribs are finished at just over 3 1/4 hours.  The ribs are done when you can see more of the bone then when you put it in.  The meat will shrink.  Using a fork check the meat to make sure it is fall off the bone tender.  If they are not ready just reseal the pouch and bake for a little longer. I would check again after 15 minutes.

Once ribs are cooked, remove from oven and set oven to broil.

Rib Rub

Remove tinfoil from each rack of ribs and place on your tinfoil lined baking sheet bony side down or meaty side up this time.

Totally cover top of ribs with your barbecue sauce.

When the broiler is hot, place your ribs under the broiler on the middle rack until barbecue sauce starts to bubble all over.  Little brown or black dots may appear.  This is good, do not worry.  Remove ribs from oven and you now have two options.

You can serve the ribs at this point or put more sauce all over the ribs and broil some more.  Wait for the sauce to bubble all over again and then serve.  I always do it twice.

Watch the ribs when they are broiling.  They can and will burn quickly.

Cut up the ribs, using a large knife, before serving, if required.  Enjoy!

These keto baby back ribs may just be the best ribs you will have ever eaten! They fall off the bone without being overcooked and falling apart, have a nice bark (or crust), and are loaded with flavor!

Combine rub ingredients

In a small bowl, combine all of the spice rub ingredients. Set aside.

Remove membrane

Remove the ribs from the packaging. Then, remove the membrane, or silver skin, off the back of the ribs. If needed, pat the meat dry so the ribs aren&#039;t too slippery when removing the membrane. To remove the membrane, you can slide a knife under it, work it loose with your fingers, then pull to remove it. Sometimes it&#039;s easier to remove if you grip the membrane with a paper towel as you remove it.

Place in fridge

Coat the meat with a thin layer of water. Then, cover the ribs with the rub. Wrap tightly in foil and place in the fridge for 1 to 2 hours.

Preheat oven

Preheat the oven to 225 degrees. Line a baking sheet with foil (for easy cleanup) and place the foil-wrapped ribs, meat side up, on the baking sheet. *Note- While I believe 225 degrees produces the best texture, they can also be baked at 275 degrees for around 2 to 3 hours and they will still be really delicious and tender!

Bake ribs

Once the oven is preheated, transfer the ribs to the oven, leaving them tightly wrapped. Bake for 3 to 5 hours. To check for doneness: Unwrap the ribs, then pick up the center of the slab with tongs. If the top easily cracks, the ribs are done! The more they crack, the more tender they will be. However, I don&#39;t recommend cooking them so long that they break apart when you pick them up.

Brush with bbq sauce and finish baking

Once the ribs are done, brush with about half of the bbq sauce. Turn the oven to broil, and broil for 5 to 10 minutes, or until bbq sauce is nicely caramelized. Watch it carefully so it doesn&#039;t burn!

Rest meat and serve

Allow meat to rest 10 to 15 minutes, then cut between the bones and serve with extra bbq sauce.

Oven Instructions:

Combine wet ingredients

In a squirt bottle or small bowl, combine the apple cider vinegar, Worchestershire sauce, and butter. Set aside. *Note- Be sure all the ingredients are room temperature, otherwise, the butter may get cold and harden.

Preheat smoker and cook

Preheat the smoker to 225 degrees according to the manufacturer&#39;s directions. Once preheated, remove the foil and place meat side up in the smoker. Close the lid and smoke for 3 to 5 hours, basting or spritzing every hour or so with the apple cider vinegar mixture. When doing this, be sure not to leave the door open too long! To check for doneness: Pick up the center of the slab with tongs. If the top easily cracks, the ribs are done! The more they crack, the more tender they will be. However, I don&#39;t recommend cooking them so long that they break apart when you pick them up.
