The perfect recipe for beer braised, fork tender pork carnitas. This recipe is so delicious you won&#039;t want to put anything else in your tacos.

Instant Pot Beer Braised Pork Carnitas

pork shoulder (boneless, skinless)

pork

250 ml beer (you can also use orange juice if you'd like)

tbsp cumin (ground)

coriander seed (ground)

oregano

bay leaves

garlic (peeled)

chili

salt

olive oil

lime (juiced)

Preparing the Instant Pot

Dice all the meat into 2cm/1inch pieces and place in the instant pot.

Mix the spices

Mix all the ingredients except the lime juice and mix with the meat in the instant pot.

Pressurize

Close the lid and set the time to high pressure for 27 minutes.

De-pressurize

When the timer beeps let the instant pot naturally de-pressurize for 10 minutes. Manually let out the rest

Strain

Strain the meat from the liquid, saving the liquid.

Get a frying pan hot over medium heat and add the olive oil. Fry the meat in batches until nicely browned. Always be careful when adding wet ingredients to hot oil as it will splatter a bit.

Add the braising liquid

Add all the fried meat back in the pan and add the saved braising liquid.  Cook over medium heat until most of the liquid is evaporated. Season with lime juice and salt and pepper to taste.

Serve in your favourite taco with your favourite sides! Enjoy!

Pulled Pork with BBQ Sauce

pork pork

beer (, apple cider

brown sugar

paprika powder

garlic powder

onion powder

mustard powder

apple cider vinegar ((Note 3))

tomato ketchup ((or Aussie tomato sauce))

water ((or use remaining beer!))

tbsp molasses (, orginal (not blackstrap, Note 4))

Worcestershire sauce

tsp salt

Tabasco

Mix the Rub together, then rub all over the pork.

Place in a slow cooker, pour over beer. Slow cook on low for 10 hours. Pork should be tender enough to easily shred.

Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F.

Transfer from slow cooker into a roasting pan (reserve liquid).

Scoop fat off surface of juices in slow cooker and drizzle over pork (about 1/3 cup), then roast pork for 20 minutes.

Remove from oven, cut thick layer of fat off top and discard. Spoon over 1/4 cup fat from slow cooker juices, then roast 15 minutes.

Browning in oven (optional, recommended):

Shred pork using 2 forks. Pour over BBQ sauce, toss gently.

Serve stuffed in sliders with Coleslaw, or make a Southern dinner plate with Coleslaw, Mac and Cheese, Corn bread, steamed corn &amp; green beans tossed in butter, with Margaritas to quench your thirst!

Shredding:

Place all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 45 minutes or until thickened.

Add 3/4 - 1 cup of juices from slow cooker until sauce is syrup consistency.

Adjust to taste: sweetness with brown sugar / honey, salt and sour with vinegar. Use per recipe.

Slow Cooker Pork Carnitas (The Easiest, Crispiest Recipe!)

Season Pork

Pat the pork shoulder chunks dry with a paper towel. In a small bowl, mix together the salt, cumin, and oregano. Rub the spice mixture evenly over all sides of the pork chunks.

Sear Pork (Optional)

Heat the avocado oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Carefully place the pork chunks in the hot skillet and sear for 2-3 minutes per side, until a deep brown crust forms. Transfer the seared pork to the slow cooker.

Slow Cook

Add the quartered onion, smashed garlic, and bay leaf to the slow cooker around the pork. Squeeze the juice from the orange and lime halves over the pork, then drop the squeezed halves into the cooker. Cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the pork is fall-apart tender.

Shred

Remove the pork from the slow cooker, discarding the onion, citrus rinds, and bay leaf. Place the pork on a large baking sheet. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces. Drizzle about 1/2 cup of the cooking liquid over the shredded pork and toss to combine.

Crisp and Serve

Set your oven's broiler to high. Place the baking sheet with the pork on an upper rack and broil for 3-5 minutes, or until the edges are browned and crispy. Watch closely to prevent burning. Serve immediately in tacos, burritos, or salads.

Slow Cooker Pork Shoulder (Crockpot Pulled Pork)

pork shoulder aka "pork butt"*

Place shallots and garlic at the bottom of your slow cooker. If your pork is wrapped in twine, remove the twine/netting. Place pork on top of shallots and garlic in the slow cooker and add the broth.

Combine spices in a small bowl and rub onto pork. Cover and cook 7-10 hours on low. My 4lb pork shoulder took about 8 hours on low. Remove any fat that&#39;s accumulated on the top and pulled apart pork with two forks until shredded. It should shred very easily if done. 

If you want to remove the pork and then reduce the sauce in a separate pan you can. I usually just shred mine in the accumulated juices and serve.

This was the best pulled pork I have made. I dislike cooking pork in BBQ sauce so I ususally end up just choosing whatever spice combination I feel like that day. I love this blend. I did use chopped onions because I only had one shallot. I think I might add cayenne pepper next time for a little heat with the cinnamon. Thank you!

Pork for days--pork tacos, pork sliders, etc. Able to freeze a bunch for later also. Been meaning to review so many of your recipes I've had, so I'm rating them all at once.

Best pulled pork we've ever had. We toasted Portuguese rolls then broiled some Swiss cheese on the rolls. Tossed the shredded pork with some of the juice. It was fabulous. So glad to find a great recipe that doesn't use barbecue sauce.

Just adding on to my comment. I put half in the freezer and took it out today and made the bbq sauce from the book and it made delicious sandwiches! So it's a great recipe that does double duty! The bbq sauce recipe is a winner, too!

I made this today, and it is delicious! The combo of spices is very flavorful. I froze half for another meal and still have enough leftovers for tomorrow. I definitely recommend this recipe!

The meat came out absolutely delicious. I strained the solids, reduced the liquids and combined with the shredded meat. Unfortunately i did not taste the liquids before combining and this was WAY too salty. Tried to balance it out with sweet bbq, however it was unsalvagable. Next time, I will make the meat again and dispose of the liquids or use much less salt.

I just made this on Friday and it was sooooo good! We did tacos with this recipe and my family raved about the flavor.  Our 3 year old who literally never eats meat ate all her pork tacos. 

I did add a 3 more garlic cloves and a 1/2 a tsp more of cumin to the recipe. 

This recipe was easy, we cooked a bone in pork shoulder for 10 hours. I already shared the recipe to friends and family.

Delicious! I don't like BBQ sauce and trying to find a recipe for pork shoulder in slow cooker without it is like finding a needle in a haystack- this recipe is the needle! definitely making it again, even my extremely fussy 10yr old liked it!
