Prawn curry is a simple delicious gravy made of fresh prawns, onion, tomatoes &amp; spice powders. Serve it with rice or roti.

Prawn curry recipe

½ tbsp oil

onion

tsp ginger garlic paste (or grated or chopped)

tomato

tbsps coconut (or 10 cashews)

turmeric (or haldi)

tsp red chili powder

coriander powder

½ tsp garam masala

cumin

green chilli (chopped

curry leaves

garlic (clove chopped - optional)

prawns

water

coriander leaves (Chopped)

Devein and wash the prawns well with cold water. Drain the water completely and set aside.

Pour ¾ tbsp oil to a pan and fry onions till transparent. Then add ginger garlic paste and fry till the raw smell disappears.

Add tomatoes, salt and turmeric. Then fry till the tomatoes turn mushy.&nbsp;

Next add red chili powder, garam masala, coriander powder and then the coconut. Fry everything well for about 3 to 5 minutes without burning.&nbsp;

Cool this and blend with ¾ water to a smooth puree. To speed up the process you can use ice cold water to blend the hot mix. Set this aside.

Preparation

Pour another ¾ tbsp oil to the pan and heat up.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Add cumin, green chilli and garlic.

When the garlic is lightly roasted add curry leaves and saute till they turn crisp.

Pour the ground mixture and add water or coconut milk only if needed.

Bring the gravy to a boil and cook on a medium flame until the gravy thickens and you see traces of oil on top.

Add the prawns to the gravy and cook until they swirl up to C shape.  Or Alternately you can also saute the prawns in a small pan just for about 2 minutes and add to the gravy.

Do not overcook they turn hard.

Taste the gravy and add more salt if needed.

Garnish with coriander leaves. 

Serve prawn curry with any fragrant rice, biryani or roti, naan or chapathi.

Prawn Masala is a quick and easy recipe that is delicious, aromatic and spicy. It is best scooped up with roti or rice. It works great as a starter or side.

Prawn Masala

500 g Prawns (Shelled and Cleaned)

tbsp Oil

Garlic (crushed)

Ginger (crushed)

tsp Green Chilli Paste

tsp Ground Cumin

tsp Ground Coriander

½ tsp Ground Turmeric

¾ tsp Red Chilli Powder

120 g Natural Yoghurt (Plain)

Lemon (Juice Only)

Salt and Pepper

tbsp Oil (or Ghee)

tsp Mustard Seeds

Curry Leaves

Onion (Diced (Red or White))

200 g Plum Tomatoes (Pureed)

tbsp Tomato Puree

Water

- 2 tbsp Double Cream

Lemon (Juice only)

Coriander Leaves

Marinade the prawns for 5 minutes in all the ingredients listed under marinade.

Add Oil to a pan. Then add Mustard Seeds and Curry Leaves. Cook for 1 minute. Then add onion. You can use red or white. Cook till golden brown - 6 - 7 minutes.  

Add Plum Tomato and Tomato Puree. Cook for 3 - 5 minutes on low.

Add water and Garam Masala. Add prawns and cook for a further 3 - 5 minutes.

Add a splash of Cream and stir through. Cook for 1 minute. (Optional).

Garnish with Coriander and serve with a squeeze of Lemon Juice.

Spicy Prawn Masala Recipe

Prawns

coconut milk

Onion

Garlic

grated Ginger

tomatoes

Olive oil

Garam Masala

Coriander Powder

Red Kashmiri Chilli Powder

Turmeric

Salt and Black Pepper

Add 2 tablespoon of olive oil in the pan. Once it is hot, add onion followed by garlic and ginger and stir for few minutes till it is cooked.

Add chopped tomatoes. Give a quick stir before adding the 4 spices. Continue to stir till it is cooked.

Let it cool down before transferring into a blender to make a paste.

Add 1/2 cup of water on the blender before turning on the machine

Add a tablespoon of olive oil in a same pan before transferring the paste into the pan. Stir to mix with the oil.

Later, add the coconut milk and give a slow stir.

Once it started to simmer, add the prawns and mix with the sauce.

While it is simmering, add salt, black pepper and chopped coriander. Continue simmering for 5 to 8 more minutes.

Mix the masala sauce before turning off the heat

Serve with white rice or flatbread like roti and lemon before serving.
