Asian Chilli Garlic Prawns (Shrimp)

tbsp vegetable oil ((or canola))

tsp sesame oil (, toasted (Note 2))

garlic (, very finely minced)

tsp ginger (, grated or finely chopped (can be omitted))

tsp chilli flakes* ((Note 3))

(125 ml) water

tbsp Sriracha ((Note 4))

soy sauce (, light or all purpose (Note 5))

tbsp brown sugar ((sub

onions (, finely sliced)

Red chillies (, finely sliced or chopped)

Heat oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add half the prawns and sear for about 45 seconds on each side until golden, then remove into bowl. Repeat.

Remove skillet from stove to cool down slightly, turn down to medium.

Return skillet to stove, heat sesame oil.&nbsp;

Add garlic, ginger and chilli flakes. Cook until garlic turns golden.

Add water, then Sriracha, soy sauce and sugar, Stir, increase heat to medium high, and let it simmer for 3 minutes or until the sauce starts to thicken to a thin syrup consistency.

Return prawns into skillet and toss to coat in sauce and reheat, and cook for 1 - 2 minutes until sauce is reduced and coats the prawns nicely.

Garnish with sesame seeds, fresh chilli and shallots if desired. Serve with rice to soak up the awesome sauce! (Low carb, low cal option, try Cauliflower Rice) Side salad suggestions in post.

A quick, light and healthy pasta recipe that&#8217;s easy to make and, with the combination of prawn, lemon, chilli and garlic, even easier to consume.

Spaghetti with prawns and chilli

dried spaghetti

olive oil

garlic cloves, crushed

vine-ripened tomatoes,

rocket leaves

Bring a large saucepan of water to the boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to pack instructions or until the pasta is al dente.

Shortly before the spaghetti is ready, put the oil and garlic into a large deep frying pan or shallow saucepan over a medium-high heat. As soon as the garlic starts to sizzle, add the chillies and fry for 1 minute. Add the tomatoes and fry for a further minute. Add the lemon zest, lemon juice, prawns and some seasoning and cook for 11/2-2 minutes, until the prawns are heated through.

Drain the spaghetti and add to the pan of prawns with the rocket and toss together well. Divide between 4 warmed pasta bowls and serve.

This bright seafood spaghetti adds a gourmet touch to weeknight dinners.

spaghetti

frozen peeled green prawns

leek, pale section only, halved, thinly sliced

garlic cloves, finely chopped

corncobs, husks, silk and kernels removed

milliliters (1/3 cup) Massel chicken style liquid stock

lemon juice

tsp lemon rind

pkt baby rocket leaves

A low-fat, low-calorie spicy prawn dish that&#8217;s nutritious, comforting and quick to make. Use raw king prawns for a touch of luxury.

Spiced prawns with new potatoes

new potatoes, quartered

shallots, finely chopped

tbsp ras el hanout

cayenne pepper

milliliters white wine

cherry tomatoes

raw king prawns,

coriander

Cook the potatoes in a pan of boiling salted water for 5 minutes, then drain. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a frying pan and gently fry the shallots and spices for 5 minutes.

Add the wine and reduce by half. Add the tomatoes and potatoes, season and simmer for 10 minutes.

Add the prawns and bubble for 3-4 minutes until the prawns are cooked. Stir in the coriander and serve.

Fermented miso soya bean paste adds an extra savoury hit to this nutritious rice dish topped with fiery chilli-fried prawns

Miso brown rice & broccoli salad with fiery prawns

brown basmati rice

ready-shelled frozen edamame beans

broccoli (about ½ a head), broken into florets

tbsp white or brown miso paste

½ tsp finely grated fresh ginger

tbsp rice vinegar

½ tbsp clear honey

tsp sesame oil

vegetable oil

red chilli

raw shelled prawn

spring onions

pack coriander

Cook the rice following pack instructions, adding the edamame beans for the last 3 mins of cooking. Drain well.

Meanwhile, steam the broccoli for 4-5 mins until tender. Run under very cold water, drain thoroughly and pat dry. In a small bowl, mix the miso, ginger, vinegar, honey, sesame oil and seasoning.

Heat the vegetable oil in a non-stick frying pan. Add the garlic and half the chilli and cook gently for a couple of mins, taking care not to burn. Throw in the prawns, lots of black pepper and a pinch of salt. Turn up the heat and cook for a few mins until the prawns are cooked through. Toss the miso dressing with the cooked rice, adding the spring onions, coriander and broccoli. Season and stir together. Spoon the spicy prawns on top, scatter over the remaining chilli and serve.

Just 5 ingredients and you have a dish that you can use so many different ways. These&nbsp;Lemon, Garlic and Herb Prawns are the perfect addition to any tapas spread.

Lemon, Garlic and Herb Prawns (Shrimp)

350 g Raw king prawns

tbsp Olive oil

Lemon

Garlic cloves, (crushed)

Fresh parsley, (finely chopped)

Put the olive oil in a frying pan and add the prawns, lemon juice and zest and garlic and cook for 3-4 minutes until the prawns turn pink.

Pour in to a bowl and scatter with the fresh herbs before serving.

Doria is a Japanese-invented gratin. Pour béchamel sauce with prawns over the butter rice, then brown the surface with cheese on top. Prawn Doria (Japanese Rice Gratin)

tbsp grated parmesan cheese

butter

onion ((medium) finely diced)

/ 2.5 ounces mushrooms (thinly sliced (note 2))

tbsp flour

milk

chicken stock ((note 3))

salt

white pepper ((or black pepper))

cooked rice ((loosely packed 2 cups))

/ 1.1 ounces onion (finely diced)

Salt and pepper

Melt the butter in a frying pan over medium heat.

Add carrot and onion, sauté for a minute or two until the onion becomes semi-transparent.

Add the rice and mix, breaking up the lumps. Season with salt and pepper.

When the rice grains are well coated in butter and the vegetables are mixed evenly, transfer the butter rice to two individual gratin baking dishes.

Butter Rice

Heat the frying pan used for the butter rice over medium high heat. Add a small amount of butter if the pan is too dry.

Add prawns and cook for a minute, then turn them over and cook further 1 minute.

Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

Add onion and mushrooms, sauté until the onion becomes transparent.

Reduce the heat to low, add flour and mix well for a couple of minutes.

Add about 1/3 of milk to the pan and mix well to incorporate until lump free (you may need to whisk it). Add the remaining milk, prawn broth, chicken stock cube, salt and pepper.

Increase the heat to medium. As the sauce heats up, it thickens. Stir regularly at first, then constantly as it thickens.

Once the Sauce is thick enough (note 5), transfer the prawns to the béchamel sauce. Mix and remove from the stove immediately.

Béchamel Sauce

Preheat broiler (note 6).

Pour the béchamel sauce over the butter rice in the baking dishes, covering the rice completely.

Sprinkle parmesan cheese over the sauce.

Place the baking dishes on the rack not too close to the heat (about 10cm / 4” away). Bake for a few minutes or until the sauce starts bubbling around the edges and the top becomes golden. Serve immediately. (note 6)

Assembly and Broiling

Prawns, passata, and a handful of ingredients are all you need to make this simple pasta recipe.

Start by de-heading and peeling your prawns. Set the prawns aside.

Heat a splash of olive oil in a frying pan over a medium-high heat and add the prawn heads and shells. Cook for about 4 minutes until pink and fragrant.

Peel and add 2 of the cloves of garlic and sizzle for a minute, then pour in the wine and let it reduce for a few mins.

Add the tomato passata and cook for about 10 mins until thickened. While the sauce cooks, devein the prawns (if you want to).

Pour the sauce mix through a colander into a bowl or jug. Use a spoon to squeeze as much sauce through as possible. Drizzle a little water over the prawn shells to rinse everything through the colander.

Pour the sauce back into the pan, taste and season and continue to cook gently while you put your pasta on to boil in plenty of salted water.

Place a separate pan over a medium high heat and add a splash of olive oil. Add the prawns and fry for a couple of minutes. Slice and add the garlic and chilli and cook for another 2 mins.

Once al dente, drain your pasta and add to the prawns and toss well. Plate up and top with a handful of chopped parsley.

These Pan-Fried Garlic Butter Prawns are easy to make but look and taste impressive, perfect for a dinner party.

Pan-fried Garlic Butter Prawns Recipe

prawns, (2 lb)

milliliters (2 tbsp) butter

garlic, crushed

½ lemon, juice only

Devein the prawns. With a sharp knife, score down the back of the shrimp. Remove the thin, digestive tract with the tip of the knife. Repeat with the rest of the prawns. 

Rinse the prawns under running water and pat dry with paper towels. Set aside while you prepare the other ingredients which won’t take long. 

Melt the butter, add the oil and generously grind salt in a large frying pan. 

Cooking the prawns. When the butter mixture starts bubbling, add the garlic and prawns in a single layer. Fry over a high heat for about 3 minutes, or until the sides of the prawns turn pink. 

Using tongs, turn the prawns on their other sides and arrange in a single layer again. 

Sprinkle lemon juice all over the prawns and cook for 1 minute, then remove from the heat. The prawns should be completely pink all over, no gray bits. 

Serve immediately on a bed of rice, with green salad and a glass of white wine. Enjoy!

Wow, it looks like you are getting a lot of love from fellow South Africans! These prawns look wonderful, and I'm sure they were just as nice as when you were making them 9 years ago.
