Recipe video above. This is just about the minimum ingredients you can use to make a great stir fry that still really stacks up to real Chinese take out! Extra saucy is how I like this - because broccoli florets have a tendency to hold lots of sauce but I still want some to soak my rice.Shortcut using Charlie - see Note 5 (the sauce in this recipe is basically Charlie!).

Chicken Broccoli Stir Fry (extra sauce!)

tbsp cornflour/cornstarch

soy sauce (, all purpose

Chinese cooking wine

tbsp oyster sauce ((Note 3))

tsp sesame oil

white pepper ((sub black))

tbsp oil (, peanut, vegetable

onion (, sliced)

garlic (, finely minced)

500 grams/1 lb chicken thighs

broccoli

water

Broccoli: steam or boil using preferred method until cooked to your taste (it won&#039;t cook any further in the stir fry). I usually microwave steam 3 minutes on high. Drain well.

Sauce: Mix cornflour and soy sauce, then mix in remaining ingredients.

Tenderising option: Consider tenderising chicken breast using this method. (Not needed for thigh)

Cook: Heat oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add garlic and onion, stir for 10 seconds until garlic starts to go golden.

Then add chicken and cook for 2 minutes or until the chicken is just cooked through.

Add broccoli, Sauce and water. Stir well and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the Sauce thickens and becomes glossy, and coats the ingredients.

Serve over rice!

This healthy Sesame Chicken recipe features chicken breast bites in a sweet, savory, tangy, and slightly spicy sauce topped with sesame seeds and green onions.

Sesame Chicken Recipe

½ pounds boneless skinless chicken breast

salt

black pepper

ginger powder

arrowroot

sesame oil

avocado oil (divided)

red pepper flakes

garlic (about 4 cloves)

white rice

scallions (sliced)

soy sauce (or gluten-free tamari)

monk fruit sweetener (coconut sugar, honey

tomato paste

rice vinegar

sesame seeds (plus more for garnish)

ginger

filtered water

Arrowroot is a starch obtained from the rhizomes (rootstock) of several tropical plants, traditionally Maranta arundinacea, but also Florida arrowroot from Zamia integrifolia, and tapioca from cassava (Manihot esculenta), which is often labelled as arrowroot. Japanese arrowroot, Pueraria lobata, also called kuzu, is used in similar ways.

Avocado oil is an edible oil pressed from the fruit of the Persea americana (avocado). As a food oil, it is used as an ingredient in other dishes, and as a cooking oil. It is also used for lubrication and in cosmetics, where it is valued for its supposed regenerative and moisturizing properties.

Combine cubed chicken with salt, pepper, ginger, arrowroot, and 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. I like to lay it flat on a cutting board and sprinkle the oil first and mix. Then I evenly distribute the powders and seasonings and mix well to evenly combine.

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat for 3 minutes. When hot add half of the avocado oil and let it heat up for 1 minute.

Add half of the chicken in an even layer to the skillet and cook for 5-6 minutes, flipping halfway until golden brown. It’s best to cook in batches not to overcrowd the pan so chicken can crisp up. Remove from the pan with a slotted spoon and set aside on a plate. Repeat with remaining oil and chicken and set aside.

Prepare the sauce by mixing the soy sauce, sugar, tomato paste, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sesame seeds, and ginger together in a bowl until well combined. Set aside.

Make the slurry by combing the tablespoon of cornstarch or arrowroot flour and water together in a small bowl. Set aside.

Add 1/2 tablespoon sesame oil to the pan along with red chili pepper flakes and garlic. Cook 30 seconds, stirring the pan frequently, until fragrant.

Add half of the sauce to the pan and continue cooking for 1 minute, stirring the bottom of the pan frequently.

Return the chicken back into the pan and toss to combine. Add the remainder of the sauce into the pan. Slowly drizzle in the arrowroot slurry and cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring frequently.

Serve with cooked rice and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

This was fantastic! I think it's my second favorite just behind General Tso's. It's just me so I was able to meal prep it for the week. Used coconut sugar and monk fruit for sweetener. Now I have a new bottle of avacado oil so need more recipes to cook with it. Haha.

This is wonderful! I got positive comments from the whole family. I made it as written except for the avocado oil - substituted peanut oil because that's what I had. Cutting the chicken small and cooking several batches took extra time and doing the sauce and flurry was a little fussy but entirely worth it. I'll be making this again.

Used maple syrup for sweetness, apple cider vinegar and marinara because I didn’t have rice vinegar or tomato paste. Omitted the pepper flakes.

I use bottled sweet chilli sauce for simplicity instead of fresh chilli, garlic, sugar and thickener, and it works a treat. Plus, it&#39;s more kid friendly because you can barely taste the spice.The key is the Sweet Chilli Drizzle Sauce! It adds flavor to the beef, rice, and veggies (raw or cooked). Jumble it all up and dig in!

Thai Sweet Chilli Beef Bowls

roasted cashews (, unsalted (or peanuts, Note 1))

tbsp canola oil (,

beef

onion (, finely chopped)

tbsp roughly chopped coriander/cilantro leaves ((sub green onion))

tbsp sweet chilli sauce ((I use Trident))

tbsp fish sauce ((Note 2))

tbsp rice vinegar ((sub cider vinegar))

tbsp dark soy sauce ((Note 3))

garlic garlic

tbsp sweet chilli sauce

tbsp lime juice

tsp fish sauce ((Note 2))

batches jasmine rice (or other plain rice of choice)

Mix each sauce. Toast cashews, sauté onion + garlic 1 min, then cook beef. Add sauce, cook until reduced/caramelised, serve over rice with veg on side. Spoon over drizzle sauce, top with cashews and coriander.

Abbreviated recipe

Drizzle sauce - Mix the ingredients in a bowl, set aside.

Stir fry sauce - Mix the ingredients in a separate bowl, set aside.

Toast cashews - Heat a large non-stick pan over medium high heat. Add the cashews and toast for 2 minutes. Transfer to a cutting board then roughly chop once cool.

Cook beef - Heat the oil in the same pan over high heat. Add the garlic and onion, cook for 1 minute. Add the beef and cook, breaking it up as you go, until you no longer see raw meat.

Sauce it! Add the cooking sauce and cook well, stirring, until it mostly reduces down so the sauce caramelises on the beef, about 3 - 4 minutes. (Don&#39;t shortcut this step, it&#39;s where the flavour is!)

Serve the beef over rice with a side of veg. Douse everything with the sauce, top with cashews and coriander (fresh chilli wouldn&#39;t go astray either). To eat, jumble everything up then dig in!

Great summer recipe - the coriander and cucumber really   + drizzle sauce really makes the whole thing shine!

This is so delicious, and easy.  We only had to buy the ground beef and oyster sauce; had everything else on hand.  Served it over some cooked brown rice I had on hand, sautéed with red onion &amp; mushrooms.  Stirred in some frozen green peas for more veg.  Made the quick pickled carrots from this site for serving, along with some finely shredded cabbage.  This is a nice change from what one would normally make with a pound of ground beef.

Love when I try a new meal and then can't stop thinking about it for several hours afterwards.  This was really tasty - even got through my post COVID loss of taste.  Next time will double the drizzle sauce though, there was almost fisticuffs for the last dregs in the bowl

Made this last night - very tasty. The only comment from the masses (in between all the lip-smacking sounds as they chowed down) was that slightly more drizzle sauce would have been nice. Note to self, increase the drizzle sauce quantity next time.

It's good, but has more salt, sugar and fat than I'm supposed to eat... It's a nice change from the usual asian sauce. Hah, Dozer doesn't discrimate between beef wellington and doo! He should bury doo, not eat it 🐈 (meooow).

It has a rich onion taste and is fit for food dishes like French onion soup. Yellow onions are typically available throughout the year. This onion is higher in sulphur than the white onion, which gives it a stronger, more complex flavour. A dozen varieties of yellow onion are grown, following the time of year....

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, and cornstarch. Set aside.

Add the sesame oil to a large deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef and onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until the meat is just about cooked through, about 5 minutes.

Pour in the reserved sauce, stir to combine, and cook for 1 minute. Add the broccoli and cook for 1 more minute.

Divide mixture evenly among 4 plates or shallow bowls, layering rice first, if using.

Top each with sesame seeds and scallions.

My son made this for dinner he did have to substitute the sesame oil with olive oil. It was easy for him to make and tasted great!!

I use coconut aminos instead of soy sauce and use about 1/4 - 1/3 cup instead of 1/2. And no corn starch. This is one of my go-to recipes. So good!

Love the idea but It’s soooo salty in reality. We could barely eat it. I added extra honey at the end hoping to save it. Next time I’ll use 1/4c soy sauce.

This recipe was just okay for me. I followed others suggestions using 1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce (good call). I think using grass-fed waygu ground beef gave it an off taste. I needed to add Japanese BBQ sauce to balance it out. I will try again with regular ground beef.
