Mom&#39;s rhubarb sauce is a delicious rhubarb recipe and the perfect way enjoy it. This easy recipe uses 5 simple ingredients and takes very little time. The end result is a delicious rhubarb compote that is perfect as an accompaniment to both sweet and savory dishes.

Mom's Rhubarb Sauce

rhubarb (diced)

water

salt

sugar

tsp vanilla extract

Place rhubarb chunks, water, salt, and granulated sugar, in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.

Bring the rhubarb mixture to a boil then turn the heat to medium-low and cook for 10 minutes, or until the rhubarb has broken down and become soft. 

Remove the sauce from the stove and stir in the vanilla. Allow the sauce to cool completely before storing in the refrigerator.

There are so many ways to use this Rhubarb Sauce! From meats and poultry to desserts, this sauce is pure awesome sauce. If you're unfamiliar with rhubarb, it varies in sweetness. So make sure to add sugar to taste in our Rhubarb Sauce recipe. Consider adding ground cinnamon–we think it adds a nice layer of flavor to the Rhubarb Sauce.

In 2-quart saucepan, heat sugar and water to boiling, stirring occasionally. Stir in rhubarb; reduce heat. Simmer uncovered about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until rhubarb is tender and slightly transparent.

Stir in cinnamon. Serve sauce warm or chilled.

This simple recipe uses maple syrup in place of refined sugar and comes together in 20 minutes. It&#039;s a great addition to ice cream for a summer dessert!

Combine the rhubarb, maple syrup, lemon zest, and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to medium or medium-low, so that a steady simmer remains. Stir frequently, and cook until the rhubarb has broken down and thickened, about 15 minutes. You may need up to 30 minutes of cooking time.

Remove the rhubarb sauce from heat. It will continue to thicken as it cools, but you can serve it immediately if desired.

Spoon over vanilla ice cream, and enjoy!

Combine 1 pound rhubarb pieces, 1 cup granulated sugar, and the zest and juice of one lemon in a medium saucepan. Place over medium heat and bring to a boil.

Boil rapidly for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until rhubarb has released its natural juices, broken down, and reduced to a beautifully silky sauce.

Remove from heat and cool to room temperature before storing in refrigerator.

My rhubarb plant is growing very strong and we needed some recipes to help use it up. Google came up with this one and well its quick and easy!
