Our easy Keto San Choy Bau is ready in less than 30 minutes! It’s a classic Chinese appetizer that just about everyone loves!

Keto San Choy Bau Recipe

sesame oil

garlic (crushed)

ginger (finely chopped)

Keto Sweet Soy Sauce

bamboo shoots (chopped)

white pepper (ground)

xanthan gum

salt (to taste)

bean sprouts

romaine lettuce leaves

sesame seeds

lime (to serve)

Place a large saucepan over high heat and add the sesame oil, garlic, and ginger, and saute for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.

Add the ground pork. Break up the pork and cook until browned.

Add the scallions, Keto Sweet Soy, bamboo shoots, and pepper and mix well.

Bring to a simmer, then sprinkle over the xanthan gum. Continue to cook, whilst stirring, until the sauce has thickened. Remove from the heat.

Taste and add salt, if needed.

Stir through half of the cilantro.

Place the lettuce cups onto your serving place and spoon the mixture evenly between them. Top with the remaining cilantro, the bean sprouts, and sesame seeds.

Serve immediately with a wedge of lime.

Recipe video above. One of my favourite starters at Chinese restaurants, the ultimate (almost) carb free healthy dish of all time! It all comes down to the Sauce - with a great Sauce, you can change up the filling to your taste. I've copied the filling served by Chinese restaurants but feel free to substitute with other vegetables or make it entirely meat free (this is a great recipe to make vegetarian).

San Choy Bow (Chinese Lettuce Wraps)

tbsp light soy sauce ((Note 1))

tsp dark soy sauce ((Note 1))

tbsp oyster sauce

tsp sesame oil

Chinese cooking wine ((or sub Mirin

tsp white sugar ((can omit))

peanut oil

large garlic, (minced)

tsp ginger, (minced)

onion, (finely chopped)

carrot, (finely chopped)

grams/ 3.5 ounces canned water chestnuts, (drained and finely chopped (Note 4))

baby corn, (canned or fresh, finely chopped (Note 4))

mushrooms, (finely chopped(shiitake is best, I used Swiss Brown))

peanuts

scallions / shallots

Mix cornflour with 1 tbsp water until lump free. Then add remaining Sauce ingredients and mix.

Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add garlic and ginger, give it a quick stir then add onion.

Cook for 1 minute then add pork. Cook pork until it turns white.

Add all the vegetables. Cook for 2 minutes until the carrot is softened and pork is cooked through.

Add Sauce and cook for 1 1/2 minutes or until it thickens and glossy, coating the Filling.

Transfer Filling into serving bowl. Lay out lettuce leaves, peanuts and scallions on the side.

To serve, spoon some Filling into a lettuce leaf. Top with peanuts and scallions, bundle it up and enjoy!

Recipe video. The meat-free version of Chinese san choy bow. You never knew vegetarian lettuce wraps could be so delicious. I never knew either, until I made these! Crumbled tofu lends the filling a meaty texture while vegetables add lovely texture, all smothered in a glossy, savoury sauce. Vegetarian food (and healthy, no less!) was never so delicious. And interesting. And easy. It&#39;s AMAZING!Feel free to substitute the veg with other sauté-able vegetables of choice.

AMAZING vegetarian lettuce wraps

water

tbsp oyster sauce ((Note 2))

tsp sesame oil (, toasted)

tsp white sugar

tsp finely grated ginger ((sub garlic))

250 grams/8 ounces extra firm tofu ((Note 4))

tbsp oil

garlic (, finely minced)

onion (, finely diced)

carrot (, chopped into 5mm/ 0.2" pieces)

green beans (,

mushroom (,

lettuce leaves ((+/- depending on lettuce size, Note 5))

Peanuts (, finely chopped (I like salted, but unsalted fine))

onion (, finely sliced)

Sriracha (, for drizzling (highly recommended))

Sauce - Mix cornflour/cornstarch with water until lump free. Add everything else, then mix.

Crumble tofu - Drain tofu, then cut into 5mm/0.2&quot; slices. Use your fingers to crumble into a mince. Not too fine crumbs, can always break up more when cooking (just like cooking mince/ground meat!).

Filling - Heat oil over high heat in a large non stick pan. Cook onion, garlic and carrot for 1 minute. Add green beans and mushrooms. Cook 2 minutes - green beans should still be firm.

Sauce it - Add tofu and toss through. Pour in the sauce. Stir for 1 minute or until the sauce thickens and is coating the mixture nicely. (If it evaporates too quickly, add a splash of water)

Serving - Transfer filling into a bowl. Lay out on the table with lettuce leaves, green onion, peanuts and bottle of sriracha.

DIY lettuce wraps - Spoon filling into lettuce leaf. Drizzle with sriracha, sprinkle with peanuts and green onion. Bundle / fold, eat!

Serve this spicy beef mince in lettuce leaf cups for a meal that everyone will love.

18.00 gm white sugar

24.40 gm oyster sauce

127.50 gm chicken style liquid stock

82.50 ml basil leaves, shredded

Step 1

Remove core from lettuce. Cut in half lengthways and place into a large bowl of cold water. Allow to stand for 30 minutes. This loosens the leaves and enables easy peeling to form cups.

Step 2

Heat oil in a large frypan over high heat. Add half the mince and cook, stirring continuously, until well-browned. Remove and repeat with remaining mince.

Step 3

Return mince to pan and add chillies, garlic, fish sauce, sugar, oyster sauce, and stock. Stir until well-combined. Bring to the boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer. Add green onions and cook for 4 minutes.

Step 4

Remove from heat and fold through basil. Spoon the chilli mince beef into the lettuce cups and serve immediately.

These Crispy San Choy-kopita Rice Paper Triangles are a fun fusion of San Choy Bow and spanakopita, filled with juicy pork, crunchy water chestnuts and vermicelli noodles. Wrapped in rice paper and air-fried until golden, they’re perfect for entertaining or snacking.

– SAN CHOY BOW SAUCE

CHESTNUTS

For the dipping sauce:

sweet chilli sauce

tbsp Marion’s Kitchen Crispy Chilli Oil

*Crushed peanuts (from the San Choy Bow kit)

Place the vermicelli noodles in a heatproof bowl and cover with boiling water. Soak for 3 minutes or until softened but still slightly firm. Drain, rinse under cold water and cut into shorter lengths using scissors or a knife. Set aside.

Heat a little oil in a wok or large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and stir-fry for 30 seconds. Add the pork mince and stir-fry until almost cooked through.

Drain the water chestnuts and add them to the pan along with the vermicelli noodles. Pour in the San Choy Bow sauce from the kit. Toss everything together and allow to simmer for 2-3 minutes or until the mince has absorbed the sauce. Set aside to cool slightly.

In a wide bowl, whisk together the egg and 100ml water. This will help seal and crisp up the rice paper.

Step 5

Dip 2 rice paper sheets into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are moistened. Layer the 2 rice paper together and place it flat on a clean board or plate.

Step 6

Add 1 tablespoon of the pork mixture to the centre. Fold in the sides and roll to form a triangle shape, like you would with spanakopita. Lightly brush or spray with oil. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if you like.

Step 7

Repeat with the remaining filling and rice paper.

Step 8

Place triangles in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Air-fry at 200°C for 14 minutes, flipping halfway, or until crispy and golden.

Step 9

To make the dipping sauce, combine sweet chilli sauce, crispy chilli oil, and a sprinkle of crushed peanuts.

Step 10

Serve the triangles hot with the dipping sauce on the side.
