Traditional Seven Layer Salad

iceberg lettuce (outer leaves and core removed)

peas (thawed)

eggs

green onions

tomatoes

bacon

cheddar cheese

mayonnaise (like Duke's

sour cream

sugar

salt and pepper

In a 3 1/2 quart glass bowl or trifle dish (make sure it's at least that large), chop the lettuce in to bite size pieces and add it to the bottom of the bowl in an even layer.&nbsp;

Add a pinch of salt and pepper over the lettuce.&nbsp;

Add the peas, eggs, onions, tomatoes, bacon and cheese, layering them closer to the edges of the bowl if you choose. Add another sprinkle of salt and pepper then set aside.&nbsp;

In a medium bowl, mix the mayonnaise, sour cream and sugar. Stir well and spread over the top of the salad "sealing" it all the way to the edge of the bowl. Sprinkle with a bit of cheese or bacon before serving, or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to two days.&nbsp;

Spread the lettuce evenly in the bottom of a glass bowl. Top with red onion, celery, and peas.

Spread mayonnaise on top of celery and sprinkle with sugar. Top with cheddar cheese and bacon. Cover and chill.

Overnight Salad, also known as seven-layer salad, is a classic with its ease of preparation and abundance of delicious flavors and textures!

Overnight Salad or Seven Layer Salad

green bell pepper (chopped)

red bell pepper (chopped)

red onion (thinly sliced)

peas (defrosted)

onions

cranberries

cheddar cheese (shredded)

buttermilk

garlic powder

onion powder

dill

parsley

In a medium bowl, combine all dressing ingredients and mix well. Set aside.

Place lettuce on the bottom of a large bowl or you can also use a 9x13 casserole dish.

Top with the first 5 ingredients, uniformly layering each other on top of the other.

Next, top with half of the bacon and drizzle half of the dressing on top.

Layer the remaining ingredients in the following order: defrosted peas, diced tomatoes, diced green onions, and the cranberries.

Spread the remaining dressing on top to seal the edges and top with shredded cheddar cheese.

Cover the salad with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Top with the remaining chopped bacon and chopped green onions before serving.
