The next time you are asked to bring something to a potluck dinner, do yourself a favor and make this five bean hotdish!&nbsp;The best way I can think of to describe this hotdish is that it’s somewhere in the middle between baked beans and chili, and it's 100% delicious.

Dorothy’s Five-Bean Hotdish

green beans (drained)

kidney beans (drained and rinsed)

yellow wax beans (drained)

pork and beans

ketchup

brown sugar

tsp vinegar

Add the ground beef, bacon, and onion to a large skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until the ground beef is cooked through. Drain the meat mixture and transfer it to a large roasting pan.

Add the green beans, lima beans, kidney beans, wax beans, pork and beans, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, and salt to the roasting pan.

Stir everything together, then cover the roasting pan with the lid. Place the covered pan in your oven and cook for 60 minutes at 350°F.

This beef pot roast is made with peperoncini peppers and slices of butter, inspired by Mississippi style stews. The flavorful beef is slow cooked until falling apart tender, then shredded and served.

Slow Cooker Pot Roast With Peppers

chuck roast ((Note 1))

butter,

table salt ((Note 3))

garlic powder

onion powder

Prepare Ingredients: Trim exterior fat from beef, then cut beef into 2-inch chunks (Note 4). Place chunks along bottom of slow cooker. Evenly sprinkle all dried seasonings over beef. Place peperoncini on top of beef, and pour in 1/4 cup of juice from jar. Evenly top with butter slices. No additional liquid is needed.

Cook &amp; Serve: Cover and cook on low heat for 8 hours. Uncover, and transfer only beef to large plate and shred using 2 forks. Transfer shredded beef back to slow cooker and stir with liquid. Serve (Notes 5-6).

Fall-apart chunks of pork AND beef in a thick, rich sauce with tender beans and a little warming heat.

Slow Cooker Pork and Beef Chilli

500 g (1.1 lbs) braising beef

pork shoulder

tbsp plain (all-purpose) flour

tsp salt

tsp black pepper

tbsp oil

garlic (peeled and minced)

tsp coriander

tsp herbs

tsp smoked paprika

tsp cumin

ginger

tsp chilli powder

chipotle paste

chilli

tomato puree ((paste in the USA))

Worcestershire sauce

300 ml (1 1/4 cups) beef stock

tomatoes

dark chocolate

tbsp fresh coriander/cilantro (chopped)

420 g (15 oz) can mixed beans beans

boiled rice or tortilla chips

coriander (cilantro)

sour cream

chopped fresh chillies

red onion

cheddar cheese

Place the chunks of pork and beef in a bowl and sprinkle on the flour, salt, and pepper. Toss together to coat the meat in the flour.

Heat up the oil in a large frying pan (skillet), over a high heat. Alternatively, if your slow-cooker has a searing function, heat the oil in the slow cooker on the searing setting and do all the frying directly in the slow cooker.

Add the pork and beef to the frying pan and cook for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned.

Add the chopped onion to the pan and cook on medium/high for 5 minutes until softened.

Add in the garlic and cook for a further minute.

Add in the ground coriander, mixed herbs, smoked paprika, cumin, ginger, chilli powder, chipotle paste, fresh chilli, tomato puree, and Worcestershire sauce. Give it a stir and cook for 2 minutes.

Add in the stock and tinned tomatoes. Bring to the boil, then transfer everything to your slow cooker (crockpot) and cook on high for 5-6 hours or low for 6-7 hours.

Forty-five minutes before the end of cooking, add in the dark chocolate, fresh coriander, kidney beans, and mixed beans. Give them a stir and allow the chilli to simmer for cook in the slow cooker for another 45 minutes.

Serve the chilli with your favourite accompaniments and toppings.
