The next time you are asked to bring something to a potluck dinner, do yourself a favor and make this five bean hotdish!&nbsp;The best way I can think of to describe this hotdish is that it’s somewhere in the middle between baked beans and chili, and it's 100% delicious.

Dorothy’s Five-Bean Hotdish

green beans (drained)

kidney beans (drained and rinsed)

yellow wax beans (drained)

pork and beans

ketchup

brown sugar

tsp vinegar

Add the ground beef, bacon, and onion to a large skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until the ground beef is cooked through. Drain the meat mixture and transfer it to a large roasting pan.

Add the green beans, lima beans, kidney beans, wax beans, pork and beans, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, and salt to the roasting pan.

Stir everything together, then cover the roasting pan with the lid. Place the covered pan in your oven and cook for 60 minutes at 350°F.

This beef pot roast is made with peperoncini peppers and slices of butter, inspired by Mississippi style stews. The flavorful beef is slow cooked until falling apart tender, then shredded and served.

Slow Cooker Pot Roast With Peppers

chuck roast ((Note 1))

butter,

table salt ((Note 3))

garlic powder

onion powder

oregano

thyme

black pepper

Prepare Ingredients: Trim exterior fat from beef, then cut beef into 2-inch chunks (Note 4). Place chunks along bottom of slow cooker. Evenly sprinkle all dried seasonings over beef. Place peperoncini on top of beef, and pour in 1/4 cup of juice from jar. Evenly top with butter slices. No additional liquid is needed.

Cook &amp; Serve: Cover and cook on low heat for 8 hours. Uncover, and transfer only beef to large plate and shred using 2 forks. Transfer shredded beef back to slow cooker and stir with liquid. Serve (Notes 5-6).

Fall-apart chunks of pork AND beef in a thick, rich sauce with tender beans and a little warming heat.

Slow Cooker Pork and Beef Chilli

500 g (1.1 lbs) braising beef

pork shoulder

tbsp plain (all-purpose) flour

tsp salt

tsp black pepper

tbsp oil

garlic (peeled and minced)

tsp coriander

tsp herbs

tsp smoked paprika

tsp cumin

ginger

tsp chilli powder

chipotle paste

chilli

tomato puree ((paste in the USA))

Worcestershire sauce

300 ml (1 1/4 cups) beef stock

tomatoes

dark chocolate

tbsp fresh coriander/cilantro (chopped)

420 g (15 oz) can mixed beans beans

boiled rice or tortilla chips

coriander (cilantro)

sour cream

chopped fresh chillies

red onion

cheddar cheese

Place the chunks of pork and beef in a bowl and sprinkle on the flour, salt, and pepper. Toss together to coat the meat in the flour.

Heat up the oil in a large frying pan (skillet), over a high heat. Alternatively, if your slow-cooker has a searing function, heat the oil in the slow cooker on the searing setting and do all the frying directly in the slow cooker.

Add the pork and beef to the frying pan and cook for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned.

Add the chopped onion to the pan and cook on medium/high for 5 minutes until softened.

Add in the garlic and cook for a further minute.

Add in the ground coriander, mixed herbs, smoked paprika, cumin, ginger, chilli powder, chipotle paste, fresh chilli, tomato puree, and Worcestershire sauce. Give it a stir and cook for 2 minutes.

Add in the stock and tinned tomatoes. Bring to the boil, then transfer everything to your slow cooker (crockpot) and cook on high for 5-6 hours or low for 6-7 hours.

Forty-five minutes before the end of cooking, add in the dark chocolate, fresh coriander, kidney beans, and mixed beans. Give them a stir and allow the chilli to simmer for cook in the slow cooker for another 45 minutes.

Serve the chilli with your favourite accompaniments and toppings.

Slow Cooker Beef & Pork Chilli

Juicy, fall-apart, slow-cooked pork, coated in hearty flavours of tomato, garlic and herbs.

Slow Cooked Pork Ragu Recipe

red bell pepper

60 ml (4 tbsp) red wine

tomato puree (paste

tbsp sugar

bay leaves

tbsp worcestershire sauce

120 ml (1/2 cup) chicken stock

salt and pepper (to taste)

Heat the butter and oil in a large pan (or in your slow cooker bowl if it has a searing function) until the butter melts.

Sprinkle the pork with the salt and pepper and then place in the pan. Seal the meat on all sides (should take 7-10 mins).

Turn the heat down and add the onion. Cook for 3-4 minutes - stirring a couple of times - until the onion starts to soften.

Add in the red pepper and garlic, stir and cook for a further 2 minutes.

Add in the red wine and let it bubble down for a couple of minutes.

Add in the tomato puree, sugar, bay leaves, oregano, thyme, tinned tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, and stock. Stir, and then bring everything to a gentle simmer.

If you&#39;ve been cooking it in the pan until this stage, now is the time to pour everything into the slow cooker.

Cook on high for 4-5 hours or low for 7-8 hours.

After this time, discard the bay leaves and shred the meat with two forks or a potato masher. It should be very tender. Test for seasoning and add in more salt and pepper if needed.

Serve the pork on top of cooked pasta with a sprinkling of parmesan cheese and chopped parsley.

i want to make this recipe but i dont have a slow cooker. How long does this dish have to stew in the oven?

Let me start by saying I already had leftover pulled pork from a get together that we had.  My husband had slow cooked the pork shoulders on the bbq grill so my pork had a bit of a smoky flavor to start. So I used one pound instead of the pork shoulder called for.  I also didn't have any red wine so I added a bit more stock. I think the wine would have been a bonus. Since my pork had already been slow cooked I didn't use a crock pot and cooked the ragu on the stovetop. It was delicious served over wide egg noodles. I would like to try this recipe again and make it as instructed. I'm sure it could only be better!

Put this in the slow cooker yesterday before work, came home to wonderful aromas coming from the kitchen. Delicious dinner then ready in less than 30 mins. Definitely making this again.
