Irish Fried Cabbage and Bacon is a simple recipe that's pan-fried in bacon grease and loaded up with bacon pieces and onion and seasoned with brown sugar, salt, and pepper.

Irish Fried Cabbage with Bacon

bacon (and drippings)

onion

cabbage

brown sugar (packed)

black pepper

Cook bacon in a deep cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until crisp, about 4 to 6 minutes. Use a slotted spatula to remove the bacon pieces and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.

Add the diced onion to the bacon drippings and cook until translucent, about 1 to 2 minutes.

Add shredded cabbage to the pan and toss to coat. Add in brown sugar, salt, and pepper and cook until cabbage is tender, about 5 to 7 minutes.

Add the bacon back to the cabbage and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes. Serve hot and season with additional salt and pepper if desired.

Black Folks Southern Cabbage Recipe

cabbage (3-4 pound cabbage, shredded)

onion (chopped)

chicken broth

apple cider vinegar

butter (unsalted

½ teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (or Cajun seasoning)

garlic powder

red pepper flakes

Cut out the cabbage’s core and use a food processor or a knife to shred the cabbage leaves. (I remove the outer layer of cabbage leaves first and discard them before chopping.)

Add the shredded cabbage and all the ingredients (onion, chicken apple cider vinegar, butter, Old Bay or Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper) into the Instant Pot stainless steel inner pot.

Sink the chopped cabbage as much as you can into the liquid broth.

Close the Instant Pot lid (make sure the valve is up – in the position for sealing) and pressure cook on high for 4 minutes.

When the cooking time is finished, allow a natural pressure release for at least 4 minutes.

To open the Instant Pot lid, move the valve to ‘venting’ and manually release any remaining pressure, if applicable.

This fried cabbage with sausage and peppers recipe is a quick and easy weeknight meal that won&#039;t leave you disappointed. Ready in just 30 minutes, this one pot dish is packed with flavor and will leave the whole family full and satisfied.

Fried Cabbage with Sausage and Peppers

olive oil

green bell pepper (sliced)

red bell pepper (sliced)

oz smoked sausage (cut diagonally)

garlic (minced)

Step 1

Chop up cabbage and onion, mince garlic, and slice red and green bell peppers

Step 2

Heat olive oil over medium heat in a Dutch oven or large skillet and sauté onion until translucent, then add peppers and minced garlic and stir

Add smoked sausage and stir

Add cabbage, salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes

Stir, cover, and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Then lift the lid and stir again.

Cover once more, and let it simmer for another 5 minutes. Then lift the lid and give it one last big stir. Serve immediately.

Southern Fried Cabbage

lb thick cut bacon (cut into 1/2 inch pieces)

sweet onion i.e. Vidalia

tsp fennel seed (optional)

onion powder

granulated garlic

red pepper flakes (may adjust to taste)

tsp black pepper

In a large skillet or dutch oven cook bacon over medium-high heat until crisp. Remove to paper towels to drain using a slotted spoon, reserving 4 Tbsp drippings in skillet.

To the drippings add onion. Saute over medium-high for 3 minutes or until beginning to brown then add garlic and fennel seed, if using. Saute for 1 minute.

Add cabbage to skillet. The skillet will be full but, the cabbage will shrink as it cooks. Once it begins to shrink, add salt, onion powder, granulated garlic, pepper flakes and black pepper. Mix well.

Cook over medium heat stirring occasionally until cabbage has softened and is browning, about 15-20 minutes.

Crumble bacon and add back to the cabbage or use to garnish the top.

Serve and enjoy.

This easy, one-pot fried cabbage recipe is surely a crowd-pleaser. The best part is that not only is this cabbage full of flavor, but it is low-carb and keto-friendly as well!

Southern Fried Cabbage with Shrimp

Large Head of Cabbage, chopped

Avocado oil (or cooking oil of choice)

Bacon,

sausage

lb Uncooked shrimp, peeled and deveined

Smoked Paprika

Cajun Seasoning

Lemon Pepper Seasoning

Butter

Medium Onion, sliced

Red Bell pepper, sliced

Orange Bell Pepper, sliced

Garlic Cloves, minced

All Purpose Seasoning

Black Pepper

Red Pepper Flakes

In a large skillet over medium heat, add your avocado oil and cook your chopped bacon and andouille sausage until browned and crisp, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from skillet.

Add cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and lemon pepper seasoning to your shrimp and toss. Then, add your shrimp to skillet and cook on each side for 60 seconds. Remove from skillet and set aside with the bacon and sausage.

Save about a tsp of the remaining grease left from the bacon, sausage, and shrimp and add the 2 tbsp of butter. Toss in your onion and bell pepper and sauté until onion become translucent. Add your minced garlic and stir to combine.

Next, add your chopped cabbage, turn the heat down to medium low and put a lid on your skillet. The cabbage will begin to wilt down. After about 10-12 minutes, give the cabbage and pepper mixture a good mix to combine. Add your all purpose seasoning, black pepper, and red pepper flakes and mix. Place the lid back on and cook on low for an additional 5 minutes or so for flavors to come together.

Remove lid. Add in your bacon, sausage, and shrimp. Give it a little stir to combine everything and serve over rice, with cornbread, or alone. ENJOY!

I made this last night. I would have given 5 stars except that the prep time took more than 10 minutes more like 25 minutes to Slice &amp;  chop vegetables get the seasonings together  , cooking bacon &amp; slicing sausage. I did however use a bag &amp;1/2 prepackaged shredded cabbage slaw .The taste was good but for me something was missing and not sure what  but it wasn’t a dealbreaker. I like that this is Keto friendly &amp; I’ll make this again for sure &amp; probably tweet the seasonings &amp; maybe make it with sausage &amp; chicken instead of shrimp.My husband liked it only after having  to ask him .he never tells he likes anything I cook without me having to ask him &amp; then he says “ Well I ate it didn’t I” Pfft .. I m not ever going to ask him again.  It’s like he doesn’t appreciate the time &amp; work I put into my cooking . I love cooking &amp; I cook everything pretty much homemade.

This was absolutely wonderful and the first time I have ever used all purpose seasoning. Definitely a keeper recipe!

Listennnnn!!! I had to come here and thank you. I just made this and it is 🔥. I used shrimp instead of bacon with (trying to reduce sodium due to high blood pressure) I also used real habanero peppers for heat ( I'm Nigerian so you already know 😆 it must always be hot 🌶) it doesn't even require too much salt  because of the Suasages, omg this dish is so good it doesn't even need any more thing as a side. I'm supposed to be meal prepping for the week but I know this probably won't last till Monday 😄. Thank you so much for sharing you are appreciated.
