Spicy pork bulgogi rice bowl is made with Korea's signature spicy pork BBQ stir fry and hot steamed rice. It's delicious and seriously addictive!

Spicy Pork Bulgogi Rice Bowl

Some cooking oil ((I used rice bran oil))

g green onion ((chopped))

sesame seeds

100 g red apple ((e.g. royal gala) or nashi pear)

brown onion

Tbsp gochujang ((Korean chilli paste))

soy sauce

Tbsp honey ((or brown sugar))

Tbsp gochugaru ((Korean chilli flakes))

Tbsp rice wine ((mirin))

Tbsp minced garlic

Tbsp minced ginger

black pepper

rice ((for 4 people))

English cucumber ((thinly sliced))

Lettuce ((thinly sliced))

Korean perilla ((thinly sliced))

Korean

Marinate the meat in the sauce for at least 30 minutes.

In a well-heated wok or skillet cook the marinated meat over medium-high heat until the meat is about 70% cooked (about 7 to 10 mins). Add the onion and cook further until the meat is completely cooked. Garnish with green onion and sesame seeds. Serve the meat with steamed rice, fresh lettuce, and Korean spicy dipping sauce.

This delicious barbecue  is very easy to do even more so if you use the marinade powder (that&#039;s where I &quot;discovered&quot; this delicious Korean dish), but making it from scratch using a mini food processor or blender makes it almost as easy as opening a packet of  marinade mix.

Dwaeji Kalbi (Sweet and Spicy Korean Pork Barbecue)

kilo Pork Spareribs (2.2 lbs

Brown Sugar (packed)

Soy Sauce

Water

Mirin (sweet rice wine)

pc Red Onion (peeled and finely grated)

pc Apple (small size /

Garlic (minced)

Sesame Oil

Black Pepper

Red Pepper Chili Flakes (or ½ teaspoon Cayenne Powder)

pcs Green Onions (thinly sliced (optional))

SPRINKLE SUGAR

Sprinkle brown sugar over pork and mix well to evenly coat.

LET SIT

Let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes while preparing marinade.

WHISK

In a bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients.

TRANSFER

Transfer pork into a large sealable freezer bag. 

ADD MARINADE

Add marinade, press out excess air from bags, and seal.

TURN BAG

Turn bag over several times to ensure beef is evenly coated.

REFRIGERATE

Refrigerate for at least an hour (for pork cutlets/tenderloin) but preferably overnight (especially if using spare ribs).

HEAT GAS

Heat gas or charcoal grill to medium-hot.

DRAIN

GRILL PORK

Grill pork, turning once, to desired doneness, about 3 to 4 minutes per side.

GARNISH

Garnish with thinly sliced green onions, if desired.

SERVE

Serve whole pieces as a main course or cut into smaller pieces, using kitchen shears, for a starter or party nibble.

Delicious Sticky Pork Bao Buns with Quick Pickled Carrots and Quick Pickled Cucumbers. Perfect as a snack or a tasty meal.

Sticky Pork Bao Buns

coriander (cilantro), cut into short lengths

Pickled Chillies

Dissolve the sugar in the vinegar in a bowl.

Finely slice the cucumber, either using a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer.

Mix the cucumber through the pickling liquid.

Just before serving, drain the pickling liquid and gently squeeze the cucumbers to release any excess liquid.

For the Quick Pickled Cucumber

Julienne the carrots, either using a sharp knife, mandoline slicer or julienne peeler.

Mix the carrots through the pickling liquid.

Just before serving, drain the pickling liquid and gently squeeze the carrots to release any excess liquid.

For the Quick Pickled Carrots

In a small saucepan, mix the hoisin sauce and Sriracha sauce together.

Heat gently over medium heat until it has warmed through.

For the Spicy Hoisin Sauce

To make your own homemade Steamed Bao Buns, please see my recipe for bao buns with step-by-step photos.

The bao buns need 10-12 minutes to steam, so I recommend steaming the bao buns (homemade or frozen) just before serving.

Allow about 3 buns per person as a main meal.

For the Steamed Bao Buns

The pork should be served warm, so reheat the pork as necessary. I generally wrap the work in foil and reheat in a hot oven.

Thinly slice the pork, allowing about 3-5 slices per bun.

For the Chinese Barbecue Pork

Spread both sides of the bun with the Spicy Hoisin Sauce.

Layer some slices of Chinese Barbecue Pork inside the bun.

Top with some slices of Quick Pickled Cucumbers and some Quick Pickled Carrots.

Garnish with spring onions (scallions), coriander (cilantro) and Pickled Chillies (optional).

To Assemble the Spicy Pork Bao Buns

Great recipe! I made this using frozen bao buns and char siu pork from Chinatown, but I can’t wait to try your recipe to make them both from scratch! The sauce was spot on, as were the pickled vegetables. I had never pickled carrots and cucumbers before but it was so easy! Definitely making again.

5 Ingredient Spicy Pork

pork tenderloin, very thinly sliced (see notes)

rice, uncooked

carrots, sliced into coins

spinach, cooked down

green onions, sliced

Shake all the sauce ingredients in a jar. Pour the sauce over the pork and allow it to rest for 20 minutes &#8211; 1 hour.

Heat a good searing skillet (such as cast iron) *affiliate link over high heat. Add just a little bit of vegetable oil.

When the oil is hot and shiny, add the pork in a single layer (you may need to do this in batches). Cook, undisturbed, for 1-2 minutes until you are getting that nice caramelized look. Flip and repeat to finish.

That&#8217;s it! Serve with rice and veggies (details in notes section) and enjoy your flavortown masterpiece.

Tried this recipe last night with chicken breast instead of pork and it was excellent.  It's tough to think of different ways to cook chicken breast without the end result being dry, tough, and bland, but this recipe results in flavorful and moist chicken. This will be my new go to for meal prep!

Made this tonight, cooked it in the marinade using a sous vide. It was fantastic! we also made a sauce by thickening marinade with some arrowroot powder. Yum!

alot of people wish cooking was this easy I love to cook but sometimes I wish I just need 5 or less ingredients.  this is so simple and quick and a great meal for this who love a kick and pork. I made this last night and LOVED it!! I added some rice vinegar and sesame oil to the sauce and let it marinate for a few hours. We ate it with quinoa and kimchi. So tasty.

Made this tonight and it was fantastic!  Super easy - as promised, the pork sliced easily after a quick visit to the freezer.   I marinated for about 4 hours.  I paired this with brown rice and broccoli and carrots (which I chopped and marinated with ginger, garlic, soy sauce, olive oil, and sesame oil).  It received rave reviews from my husband and my 2 year old!
