The Best Swedish Meatballs Recipe

breadcrumbs

(125 milliliters) milk

ml cream

minced garlic,

salt

EACH of black pepper and ground white pepper

Grillkrydda (OR all spice OR all purpose seasoning)

onion, (finely chopped)

(500 g) ground beef ((mince))

(250 g) ground pork ((mince))

fresh, (finely chopped parsley)

butter

olive oil

plain / all purpose flour

250 ml (1 cup) vegetable broth ((or stock))

250 ml (1 cup) beef broth ((or stock))

thickened ((or heavy) cream*)

soy sauce

dijon mustard

Salt and pepper, (to season)

In a large bowl, mix the breadcrumbs together with the milk, cream (If using), egg, garlic, salt, peppers and spice. Allow the milk to soak into the breadcrumbs for at least 10 minutes.

Once the milk has absorbed some, add in the onion, meat(s) and parsley. Mix well with your hands to combine.

Roll meat into about 24 small balls, or 16 larger balls.

Heat 1 tablespoons of butter and 2 teaspoons of oil in a pan on medium-high heat. Fry meatballs in batches of two so they don’t stew or simmer. Transfer to a warm plate and cover with foil.

Add the 1/3 cup butter to the juices in the pan to melt. Whisk in the flour until it dissolves and turns brown in colour. Pour in the broth (or stock), cream, soy sauce and dijon. Bring to a to simmer and season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix the sauce through well to combine all of the flavours together.

Continue to simmer until thickened.

Non Swedish way: Place meatballs into the gravy in the pan and serve

Traditional Swedish way: Do not make the cream sauce at all. Serve meatballs over plain or stewed macaroni, plain or mashed potatoes, and lingenberry jam (optional)

Mix together all ingredients for the meatballs. Set aside.

Using a tablespoon scoop or spoon, form meatballs from the ground beef mixture. Heat 12-inch skillet or saute pan over medium heat. Drizzle in enough olive oil to lightly coat the bottom of the skillet to prevent meatballs from sticking. Drop formed meatballs into the heated skillet, turning occasionally to ensure that all sides of the meatball have been browned, about 7-10 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet or saute pan and drain on a plate lined with paper towels.

For the meatballs:

Reduce the heat on the skillet or saute pan to medium-low heat. Melt butter and whisk in flour until it has turned golden brown. Slowly whisk in beef broth and cook until thickened, then add in milk or cream, worcestershire sauce, pepper, and salt. Continue to stir until well-combined. Add meatballs back into the skillet, turning to coat well. Add fresh parsley, if using.

Get all ingredients ready prior to starting.

Add all the meatball ingredients (except for the olive oil) to a fairly large prep bowl. Using your hands, mix it together and then form 1 ¼ - 1 ½-inch meatballs (use about 2 ½ tbsp meat/meatball and it&#39;ll make approx. 25-30 meatballs). Place the meatballs on a parchment-lined baking sheet for easy clean-up.

Add the olive oil to a large and deep skillet or a Dutch oven/pot and let it heat up for a few minutes over medium-high heat. Fry the meatballs in two batches until all sides are browned (about 5-7 minutes/batch). It&#39;s easiest to turn the meatballs with tongs. You may need to add a splash more oil for the second batch. Transfer meatballs to a plate.

Pour out most of the fat from the skillet, but keep the brown bits in for extra flavor (don&#39;t wipe it out).

Reduce the heat to medium and add the butter to the skillet. Once it’s melted, stir in the flour and cook, stirring often, for a few minutes until the roux starts to turn golden.

Slowly whisk the beef broth in, and ensure the flour has dissolved into the sauce.

Whisk in the Dijon mustard and Worcestershire sauce.

Add the meatballs back to the pan and cook for about 10 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through and the gravy thickens to your liking (it&#39;s not meant to be a super thick gravy).

Turn off the heat and stir in the sour cream. I add it right into the skillet, but you could take out some of the sauce and add it to a cup and mix the sour cream in there first if that&#39;s easier for you.

Season with salt &amp; pepper as needed. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve immediately.

½ cups low-sodium beef broth

Heat 2 teaspoons of the olive oil in a large deep saucepan over medium heat.  Add the shallots and sauté for 5 minutes until they are softened, but not browned. 

In a large mixing bowl combine the egg, milk, Panko, parsley, allspice, salt and pepper. Add the beef and pork and the shallots and use your hands to combine until very well blended. Form the mixture into small meatballs, less than 1-inch in diameter. 

Heat the same saucepan over medium high heat, 2 more teaspoons olive oil, and brown half the meatballs on all sides, turning them carefully, about 6 minutes.  They will be almost but not quite cooked through.  Remove them with a slotted spoon to a paper towel lined baking sheet.  Add the remaining 2 teaspoons olive oil and brown the rest of the meatballs the same way.  Add them to the baking sheet.

Pour off any remaining fat in the pan and return it to medium heat.  Add the bay leaf, cream and broth and bring to a simmer.  Return the meatballs to the pan, heat until the sauce thickens and coats the meatballs well, and the meatballs are cooked through.  

Serve hot, over grains, small pasta, couscous or rice if desired.  Top with minced parsley or chives if desired.

Add ground meat to large bowl

Mix together panko and half and half and let soak for 5 minutes

Add soaked breadcrumbs, egg, and seasonings to ground mix and use hand to mix until just combined

Heat 1 tablespoon of butter and olive oil in skillet or multi-cooker

Form meat mixture into ping pong sized balls and place in single layer in skillet

Brown on each side for about 2 minutes then transfer to slow cooker

Add broth, cover and cook on low for about 6 hours or high for about 3

Heat remaining 4 tablespoons of butter in skillet

Whisk in flour until smooth

Slowly pour in broth from the slow cooker and continue to whisk

Add in preserves and sour cream and bring to a simmer while continuing to whisk until sauce thickens, about 5 minutes

Cook noodles according to package directions

Serve meatballs with noodles and sauce and garnished with parsley if desired

In a heavy bottom skillet with deep sides or a dutch oven over medium-low heat, add 1 tablespoon of the olive oil once hot add the onion to the oil and saute until translucent and soft, 5-8 minutes. Add the garlic and saute until fragrant, 30 seconds. Take the mixture out of the pan on a plate, set aside.

In a large bowl add the ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, parsley, egg, seasoned salt, pepper, allspice, nutmeg, and the cooked onion and garlic. Mixture together until just combined.

Take about 2 tablespoons of the meat mixture, roll them into balls and place them on a plate.

In the same skillet or dutch oven, add another 1 tablespoon of the olive oil and in batches fry the meatballs on all sides over medium-high heat, do not crowd the pan. About 2-3 minutes per side. Transfer the browned meatballs to a paper-towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Add more olive oil if needed while frying the remaining batches.

Once all the meatballs are browned, lower the heat to medium, make the sauce by adding the butter to the pan and letting it melt.

Whisk in the flour, let it cook for 2 minutes whisking constantly. Slowly stream in the beef stock while whisking constantly.

Add the heavy cream, sour cream, dijon mustard, and pepper, whisk to combine.

Add the meatballs back to the pan, cover in the sauce, and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the sauce is thickened and the meatballs have reached an internal temperature of at least 165°F.

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Garnish with optional parsley. Serve the meatballs over egg noodles or mashed potatoes, with a side of lingonberry jam!

In a large mixing bowl, add beef and pork; mix thoroughly to break up any lumps. Add finely chopped onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, and egg, and mix to combine. Add milk, and season well with salt and pepper.

Shape mixture into small, round balls. Place on a clean plate, cover and store in the fridge for 2 hours (to help them hold their shape while cooking).

Slowly add in vegetable stock and beef stock, whisking continuously. Stir in the heavy cream, soy sauce and Dijon mustard.

Bring to a simmer and allow the sauce to thicken. Continue to stir.

When ready to eat, serve with your favorite potatoes or noodles.
