Orgeat (pronounced "or-zsa," like Zsa Zsa Gabor) is like liquid marzipan. While it's best known as a part of a good Mai Tai, this almond syrup is also an exotic substitute for simple syrup or grenadine in mixed drinks or a fun addition to pie fillings, milk shakes, and even coffee.

Orgeat Recipe

raw almonds, sliced or chopped

sugar

water

orange flower water

vodka

Toast almonds at 400°F for 4 minutes, shaking after 2 minutes. 

Cool almonds and then pulverize them with a blender or food processor.

In a saucepan, cook the sugar and water on medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture starts to boil, about 3 minutes, stirring constantly. 

Add pulverized almonds and simmer on low heat, stirring frequently. When mixture is about to boil, remove from heat and cover. Let it sit for a minimum of 3 hours and no more than 12 hours.

Strain steeped mixture through three layers of cheesecloth into a bowl, squeezing the cloth as you go.

Add orange flower water and vodka, then stir. Funnel into glass jar or bottle.

Homemade spiced rum is an elevated addition to any rum cocktail, and it takes only a few minutes to make and gets stronger the longer it sits. Tailor the spices to your liking.

This bright red cocktail syrup is made with a blend of tropical fruits. Although uncommon in tiki drinks today, fassionola was used in classics like the Cobra&#039;s Fang and even the original Hurricane.

Fassionola Syrup Recipe

strawberries

blueberries

passion fruit pulp

pineapple juice

hibiscus tea bag ((optional))

Chop the strawberries and add them to a small saucepan. Add the blueberries and use a muddler or spoon to gently break up some of the berries.

Now add the frozen passion fruit, pineapple juice, and water and set the heat to low. Stir frequently.

Once the passion fruit has fully melted, add the sugar and continue to stir frequently until all of the sugar has dissolved. Allow the mixture to lightly simmer, but do not let it boil.

Continue stirring at regular intervals. After 5-10 minutes, when the strawberries just start to soften, remove the syrup from the heat.

Allow the syrup to cool fully before straining using a fine mesh strainer.

Store the syrup in a closed container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. You can add an ounce of vodka or grain alcohol to the syrup to help it last longer.

This classic tropical cocktail blends gin with lemon, passion fruit, orgeat and falernum for a layered but refreshing summer drink.

The Saturn - Gin Tiki Cocktail

¼ oz gin

lemon juice

passion fruit syrup

¼ oz falernum

¼ oz orgeat

Combine all ingredients with 3/4 cup crushed ice in a blender.

Blend on high until smooth. Pour into a glass or tiki mug and garnish with a cocktail cherry and lemon peel.

oz Peach Schnapps

1.5 oz Light Rum (I used Bacardi)

1.5 oz Dark Rum (I used Meyers)

Lime

oz Orange Juice

oz Pineapple Juice

tsp Grenadine

Put all the ingredients except the grenadine into a blender.

Blend on high speed till completely blended and smooth.

Add the grenadine to the bottom of the glass.

Pour the frozen mixture into the glass and garnish with pineapple leaves and maraschino cherries.
