Each marinade takes less than 5 minutes to prepare using pantry staples you might already have on hand. Let your seitan or tofu marinate in the fridge for up to 4 days, or you can freeze them for later.&nbsp;

12 Seitan or Tofu Marinades

BBQ sauce, ((check to make sure it's vegan))

liquid smoke

lemon juice

dijon mustard

maple syrup

black pepper

water

sweet chili sauce

soy sauce

Sriracha

agave or maple syrup

olive oil

lemon juice vinegar

rosemary

basil

garlic powder

salt

balsamic vinegar

peanut butter

lime juice

agave

ginger

full-fat coconut milk

curry powder

light oil

chili powder

smoked paprika

brown sugar

orange juice

For any marinade you choose, simply add all of the ingredients to a resealable bag or airtight container, mix, then add your seitan tenders or sliced or cubed tofu. Let marinate for a minimum of 15 minutes or up to 4 days.&nbsp;

5 Easy Tempeh Marinades

lemon, juiced (30 grams)

maple syrup (10 grams)

garlic garlic

paprika

1.5 tsp garam masala

tsp cumin

coriander

turmeric

cayenne

tsp black pepper

coconut milk (60 milliliters)

tsp red curry paste (10 grams)

coconut sugar (6 grams)

soy sauce (22 grams)

garlic clove, minced (6 grams)

tsp ginger grated (10 grams)

maple syrup (40 grams)

tsp liquid smoke (5 grams)

tsp smoked paprika

garlic

tbsp coconut sugar (24 grams)

tbsp sesame oil (15 grams)

scallion, chopped (10 grams)

tbsp apple sauce (45 grams)

garlic (9 grams)

½ tbsp sesame seeds (7 grams)

tbsp grated ginger (15 grams)

Korean red pepper flakes, optional

non dairy yogurt (125 milliliters)

tbsp non dairy milk (30 grams)

tbsp ginger, grated (10 grams)

tsp sweet paprika

cinnamon

cayenne, optional

For each marinade, add all the ingredients into a bowl and stir until combined. Alternatively, add all the ingredients into a air tight jar and shake until combined. You can either store the marinade in the refrigerator or freezer as is or marinade the tempeh (steps below). 

Add marinade over tempeh in a freezer safe container or bag and toss until tempeh is fully coated in the marinade. Each marinade is enough for 1 8 oz package of tempeh. 

Immediate Use: Refrigerate and let the tempeh marinade for at least 30 minutes (preferably overnight). 

Freezing: Transfer the marinated tempeh to the freezer and freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to cook, place the frozen marinated tempeh into the refrigerator overnight or until completely thawed. Alternatively, place the tempeh in a bowl of hot water and change water as it cools until thawed. Now the tempeh is ready to be cooked! See this post to see how to cook tempeh. 

So far I've tried the Smoky Maple and Satay marinades and they were delicious. Going to try the other 3 marinades soon!

So here's the thing, I was looking for new ideas to eat my tempeh and the Internet guided me to Lisa's page. Well lo and behold it was fate taking me to her satay marinade recipe. LOVED IT! So easy to put together, elevated the tempeh to full yum. Ah and then I tagged her in my poor food pics on my IG and she was the sweetest?! So now of course I'm following her. Thanks a lot for the inspo, Lisa!

second time i tried making something with tempeh by myself. Super easy and so delicious. Love how the recipe is written and organized, easy to follow. This will definitely be my go to marinade recipe. Ill be making this a lot this summer, super tasty on vegan pizza.

btw, i made the spiced yogurt  and the smoked maple marinade. excellent on pizza.

I made the smoky maple marinade with coconut aminos.  It is so good!  I let is marinate in the refrigerator for 8 hours, then baked for 20 minutes or so.   It was perfect in the noodle bowl, with sauteeed veggies, kale, and kin chi.   I served a peanut sauce onnthe side.   We had guests for dinner and the tempeh was a hit!  Thank you for a fantastic recipe.

Six vegan, gluten-free tofu marinades for grilling, baking, frying, or stir-fries.

Tofu Marinades

(14 oz.) block tofu

tbsp sesame oil

soy sauce (or Tamari or Bragg's Liquid Aminos)

tbsp canola oil (or other neutral-flavored oil)

tbsp balsamic vinegar

maple syrup (or any sweetener)

tsp salt

cilantro

hot pepper (like

tbsp vinegar ((either white or apple cider vinegar))

tsp ginger (fresh grated)

seasoned rice vinegar

tsp garlic chili paste

tsp sugar

canola oil

tbsp white vinegar

yeast

poultry seasoning

Place all ingredients in a small saucepan and heat until the sugar dissolves completely.

Allow to cool before pouring over tofu.

For the marinades with granulated sugar: (Thai Chili and Teriyaki)

Add all ingredients to a small bowl and stir with a whisk or fork until well blended.

For the marinades without granulated sugar: (Balsamic, Cornell, Sweet Asian)

Put all ingredients in a food processor or blender and blend until everything is chopped up very small.

Cilantro Lime:

Bake on an oiled cookie sheet at 400°F for 30 minutes flipping cubes every 10 minutes.  You can also pan-fry or deep-fry it.

4 Tasty Tofu Marinades + How to Use Them

Nasoya’s Super Firm Tofu

Starch,

Water,

tbsp gochujang

orange + 1 tsp orange zest

tbsp rice wine vinegar

sesame seeds

gochugaru,

Italian seasoning

tsp red pepper flakes, optional

fennel seeds

garlic, crushed

cilantro, finely minced

tsp coriander

vegetable bouillon cube soy sauce

lime

tbsp white wine vinegar

tbsp extra virgin olive oil

apple cider vinegar

lemons

tbsp yellow miso paste

oregano basil

Prep Tofu

Remove the tofu from package and pat dry. Cut into desired cube shapes and divide the tofu between 4 different airtight containers and prepare the accompanying sauces.

Add all of the balsamic glaze ingredients to a small bowl and whisk together to emulsify. Pour over tofu and allow to sit and marinade for at least an hour.

Remove the tofu from the marinade and place on a parchment lined baking tray. Bake in the oven at 425F for 20 minutes or in an air fryer at 400F for 10 minutes. To the leftover marinade add 1 teaspoon cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water and whisk together to combine.

Heat up a pan over medium low heat and when warm, pour in the marinade and stir to thicken for about 2 minutes. Add in the baked tofu and toss until completely coated in the sauce. Serve the tofu with your favorite vegetables and grains.

Balsamic Glazed Tofu

Add all of the orange gochujang ingredients to a small bowl and whisk together to emulsify. Pour over tofu and allow to sit and marinade for at least an hour.

Heat up a pan over medium low heat and when warm, pour in the marinade and stir to thicken for about 2 minutes. Add in the baked tofu and toss until completely coated in the sauce. Serve your tofu with some pickled or fresh vegetables, rice and kimchi.

Orange Gochujang Tofu

In a small bowl, combine all of the tofu feta ingredients and whisk to combine until the miso paste is fully dissolved. Pour over tofu and allow to marinate overnight. Once marinated, this tofu is ready to use as is to top salads or add to wraps and pitas.

Marinated Tofu Feta

Add all of the cilantro lime ingredients to a small bowl and whisk together to emulsify. Pour over tofu and allow to sit and marinade for at least an hour.

Heat up a skillet over medium heat then heat up your oil. Once warm, remove the tofu from the marinade and place in the skillet to pan fry for 2-3 minutes on each side.

You can serve the tofu in tacos along with sauteed peppers and onions. Reserve the marinade as a drench sauce that you can pour over the tofu tacos for extra flavor when serving.
