My go-to, 5-minute vegan hot chocolate made with simple ingredients you always have on hand. Creamy, luxurious, and surprisingly healthy.

5-Minute Vegan Hot Cocoa

almond milk

Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

Tbsp dairy-free semisweet chocolate ((chips

tsp peppermint extract

whipped cream

Add almond milk to a large mug and microwave for 1 minute. Alternatively, add to a saucepan over medium heat.

Once milk is warm, add cocoa powder, chocolate and sweetener and whisk to combine.

Put back in microwave or continue cooking on stovetop until completely combined and has reached your preferred temperature.

Taste and adjust sweetness as needed.

Lastly, add in your extract of choice – I think peppermint is truly unbeatable. Stir, and top with coconut whipped cream.

My favorite delicious healthy hot chocolate recipe that&#039;s both vegan and dairy free! This healthy hot chocolate recipe is made with a mix of both coconut milk + almond milk and naturally sweetened with pure maple syrup. The perfect nightcap during the chilly winter months!

Healthy Hot Chocolate

light coconut milk (from the can)

vanilla extract

maple syrup

unsweetened cocoa powder (I use Ghirardelli’s 100% unsweetened cocoa powder)

sea salt

Add all ingredients to a small pot and place over medium low heat. Whisk vigorously to combine and to get rid of any lumps of cocoa. Do NOT let the hot chocolate boil or you risk burning the almond milk, which can turn the flavor into something you do not want. Simply warm in the pot until steamy, about 3-5 minutes.

Once hot chocolate is hot, remove from heat and pour into 2 mugs. Top with whipped cream, dairy free whipped cream, marshmallows or vegan marshmallows. Chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder on top are fun too! Enjoy!

Oat Milk Hot Cocoa

Heat oat milk.

Add the oat milk to a small saucepan over low to medium heat. Cook for 2-3 minutes to heat the milk, but do not let it boil.

Stir in cacao, syrup, cinnamon, and salt.

Add the cacao powder, maple syrup, ground cinnamon, and pinch of salt. Stir continuously until dissolved, about 2-3 minutes.

Remove from heat and pour into mug.

Remove from the heat and pour the hot cocoa into a mug. Top with dairy-free coconut whipped cream, vegan marshmallows, or a dash of cinnamon if desired.

Add extra maple syrup for a sweeter drink.

If you&#39;d like sweeter hot cocoa, stir in an additional tablespoon of maple syrup.

This Vegan Hot Chocolate is luxury in a glass! A decadent blend of cocoa powder, dark chocolate, and two kinds of dairy-free milk result in a dreamy, warming winter drink. It’s a luxe, grown-up version of the classic.

Vegan Hot Chocolate 

(170 grams) 70% dark chocolate, chopped

(960 mL) oat milk (or soy milk)

(13.5-ounce 400 mL) can of “lite” coconut milk*

maple syrup (80 grams)

espresso powder coffee powder ((optional))

fine sea salt

vanilla extract***

(48 grams) Dutch process cocoa powder****

Add the oat milk and lite coconut milk to a 4-quart / 4L (or larger) saucepan or Dutch oven (to prevent overflow).* Add the chopped chocolate, maple syrup or sugar, espresso (if using), salt, and vanilla. Use a fine mesh sieve or sifter to sift the cocoa powder directly into the pan (or sift in advance, then add). Sifting removes the clumps, making it easier to whisk.

Bring to a rapid simmer over medium heat, whisking frequently to incorporate the cocoa powder into the milk.Simmer for 8 to 10 minutes, whisking occasionally until the hot chocolate has slightly thickened (it will thicken quite a bit more as it rests). Note: Once it comes to a simmer, it will expand in volume and rise upwards, so lower the heat as needed to prevent it from bubbling up.

Cool for 5 to 10 minutes (it&#39;ll burn your mouth otherwise!). Whisk again and give it a taste. If desired, sweeten to taste with sugar or maple syrup.Add optional toppings such as whipped cream and shaved chocolate. Enjoy!

The perfect hot chocolate recipe ! 
Not a huge fan of coffee so I omitted the espresso powder, and it is absolutely delicious.
Did the recipe yesterday and doing it again today !

I 1/8thed the recipe to make a single serving and was disappointed when I saw it only filled half my mug. BUT it’s so rich and cream and not at all “thin and with a hint of chocolate” like many other recipes are. 

Here’s the single serve measurements if you need it!

.75 oz dark chocolate 
.5 cup oat milk
50 mL lite coconut milk
10 g maple syrup
Pinch salt
.25 teaspoon vanilla
6 g cocoa powder

This hot chocolate was amazing! Though I used Ghirardelli cocoa powder and didn't have access to coconut milk, or espresso powder, I tried my best, and it turned out super great. The complexity of the flavours really surprising to me, since this was my first time using this certain recipe, and I loved it. 10/10, will try again in the future will proper ingredients!

I bought the ingredients for this recipe a few weeks ago. I've been waiting for a cold weekend to cozy up with it. The weather turned and I decided to make it today. Wow! This is the most premium hot chocolate I've ever had! This is the recipe to impress with! I love it!

Amazing.  I had high expectations (because everyone of Nisha's recipes' I try is a 10/10) but this blew me away.  So creamy.  I added a very light sprinkle of cinnamon and it was delicious without any added sweetener.  (I didn't have any oat milk on hand so used Almond milk.  No espresso powder.)  A small cup is completely satisfying.
