One Bowl Whole Wheat Buttermilk Waffles

– 1 1/2 cups buttermilk, or more as needed

In a large bowl, whisk flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Add egg, vanilla and buttermilk to the bowl with the wet ingredients.

Mix until just blended. It&#8217;s ok if the batter is a little lumpy. Add more buttermilk as needed if the batter is too thick.

Heat a waffle iron and spray or brush with oil. Pour batter into waffle iron and cook according to manufacturer instructions.

Remove waffle from waffle iron. Serve with maple syrup, fruit, nuts, or yogurt.

Banana Waffles

Here's how to make fluffy whole wheat waffles with easy, healthy ingredients. Best way to start your morning!

Fluffy Whole Wheat Waffles

(260 grams) whole wheat flour (spooned & leveled)

(1 Tbsp) baking powder

Tablespoons (85 grams) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled

Tablespoons (25 grams) packed light or dark brown sugar*

(420 milliliters) buttermilk

Preheat waffle maker on medium-high heat. Preheat oven to 200°F (93°C). Place a wire rack on a baking sheet; set aside.

In a large bowl preferably with a pour spout, whisk the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt together. Set aside.

In another large bowl, whisk the melted butter, eggs, and brown sugar together. Whisk in the buttermilk and vanilla until combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and then whisk gently until combined. Do not over-mix. Some small lumps are OK.

Grease the preheated waffle maker (I use nonstick spray). Pour about 1/3 cup of the batter into each well of the waffle maker (or less if your waffle maker is smaller) and close the lid. Cook the waffles until crisp, about 4–5 minutes. (Follow the cooking instructions for your waffle maker.) Transfer the cooked waffles to the wire rack and keep warm in the preheated oven as you cook the rest. Repeat to cook the remaining batter.

Serve the waffles immediately with your choice of toppings.

This recipe is perfect. I didn’t make any changes. This will be the recipe I use for my precious Granddaughters. They will love these waffles!

Made them this morning and they are the best ever ...

I’ve made these several times. They are a family favorite. I do let the batter rest for about 30 minutes before cooking to let the wheat flour absorb the liquid and adjust if needed. I also freeze them and pop them in the toaster on a busy morning and they work wonderfully.

Hubby is on diet so tried these, used coconut oil in lieu of butter and added chopped apples - delicious!

Eggless Waffles Recipe | Fluffy Whole Wheat Waffles

whole wheat flour (- leveled, 120 grams)

baking powder (- leveled)

cinnamon powder ((ground cinnamon), optional)

sugar (or add as per taste)

milk (or add as required)

vanilla extract (or ¼ teaspoon vanilla essence)

In a mixing bowl first take the whole wheat flour (or atta). If the wheat flour is ground in a mill, then do sieve the flour once or twice before using.

Add 1 pinch salt. Skip adding salt if using salted butter.

Add the ground cinnamon powder.

Next add sugar. You can even add more sugar or skip it entirely.

Add baking powder. With a wired whisk mix all the dry ingredients very well. Keep aside.

Preheat the waffle pan or waffle maker.

Mixing dry ingredients

Take the milk in a saucepan. Keep the pan on a medium-low heat and begin to heat milk. You can also use almond milk or soy milk.

When the milk is becoming hot do stir occasionally. Do not boil the milk but let it just become hot. You should see some steam coming from the milk.

When the milk becomes hot, add unsalted butter. You can also use oil instead of butter. Use a neutral flavored oil.

Mix the butter in the hot milk very well.

Then add vanilla extract and mix again well.

Mixing wet ingredients

Pour the milk mixture to the dry ingredients in the bowl.

With a wired whisk begin to mix gently but well. Break lumps with whisk and make a smooth batter. A few tiny lumps are fine in the batter.

The waffle batter is of a pourable consistency and not thick. If the batter looks thick, then you can add ¼ to ⅓ cup more of hot milk. If the batter looks runny and thin, add a few tablespoons of wheat flour and stir to mix evenly. Depending on quality of whole wheat flour less or more milk can be added.

Making waffle batter

When the waffle plates/waffle iron become hot, spread some softened unsalted butter on it with a silicon brush. In case you are using the waffle pan for the first time then be more generous in spreading the butter.

Using a ⅓ to ½ measuring cup or a ladle, pour the batter evenly on the waffle plates.

Close the waffle maker and cook the waffle for 7 to 8 minutes or more till the top looks crisp and golden.

When the waffles look crisp and golden, then open the waffle maker.

Gently remove the waffles with a wooden spatula. Make them in a similar way. Do brush some butter on the waffle iron/waffle plates before making every batch of waffles.

Serve Eggless Waffles hot or warm with any toppings of your choice.

Cut the raspberries in half with kitchen scissors or mash lightly with a fork.

Combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a medium bowl.

Stir together the butter, eggs, vanilla, and milk in a separate bowl and gently add it to the flour mixture. Stir in the mashed raspberries.

Heat your waffle iron and cook according to manufacturer's directions. (About 1/2 cup batter per waffle worked perfectly on our waffle maker on setting 4.) Keep waffles warm in the preheated oven on the prepared baking sheet until you finish cooking all of the batter.

Serve warm with syrup, butter, nut butter, fruit, or yogurt and additional berries.

Loved these! So quick and easy. I didn’t have whole meal flour so did half plain flour half oat flour and they still turned out great.

These were so yummy tastings. I didn’t think I would like these given the whole wheat but I added maple syrup to batter a little and they were so good. My 1 1/2 yr old ate two she loved them.

I got a mini waffle maker for my birthday and decided to break it in with this recipe! I didn't have any raspberries, but my son loved them anyway. They freeze and reheat so well! Straight from the freezer, I reheat them in my air fryer for 5 minutes on 350 and then microwave them for about 30 seconds on 40% power (your microwave may vary LOL).

These were amazing! Thank you so much for this recipe! I omitted the berries inside the batter and still the waffles were delicious with maple syrup! Loved by hubby too hehe :D

We are starting baby led weaning with our almost 7 month old. So far been doing purees and today gave eggs for the first time. Do you think this would be a good recipe to try out if it's cut into strips for him to practice with? How old were your little ones when you gave them this?

I've been so happy since finding your website. My 18 month old is extremely picky and a few of your recipes have been such a big hit for him (soft baked granola bars all time favorite).  Previously he would only eat Happy Baby waffle mix and it's been out of stock lately so I've tried a few different store bought mixes, frozen waffles, and homemade recipes but he wouldn't eat any of them.  Then I tried this one but subbed wild blueberries per his preferences, and he ate them right up.  FINALLY! Thank you! I'm just going to keep using this recipe,  much cheaper than the mix we used to use . Thank you for another great recipe. You are a life saver!

Super crispy! I’ve made other waffles and once they cook or are reheated, they go limp and soggy. These stay crispy even after freezing and reheating in the microwave!! Very impressed! My 2yo loves. Thanks Amy for another great recipe.
