No such thing as too much chocolate to chocolate lovers. I used skim milk and truvia, and dark chocolate chips and I'll say yes to this. Accidentally left out the vanilla, but it still tastes great.

WAYYYYY too much chocolate. For 2 cups of milk you should use half a cup of chocolate chips max. The cocoa powder isn't really necessary either. I added 2 dashes of cinnamon and 1 dash of chile powder or cayenne pepper. I feel bad about giving this one star but nothing about this recipe offers anything unique or even correct on making hot chocolate.

Whole milk is preferable. 

When you're drinking hot cocoa, you're most likely trying to be festive and cozy, not healthy. Go all out with whole milk. Remember, fat = flavor. If you only have skim or low-fat, don't worry. This recipe will still totally work. 

Watch the milk! 

If you walk away as it's coming to a simmer on the stovetop, it will likely boil over. Trust us, this has happened to us too many times to count. 

Use your favorite kind of chocolate. 

We're partial to semi-sweet (60% cocoa) or bittersweet (70%). But if you like your cocoa a little bit sweeter and creamier, feel free to use milk chocolate. We usually use chocolate chips because they're always in our pantry. But if you want to splurge on a nice bar of chocolate, go for it. It'll be worth it!

Toasted marshmallows,

Combine chocolate chips, cocoa powder, sugar, salt, milk and wine in slow cooker. Cook on high for one hour, whisking every 20 minutes.

Ladle cocoa into mugs and top with toasted marshmallows and chocolate shavings.

Treat Yo' Self With Red Wine Hot Cocoa

A decadent and delicious hot chocolate recipe that is made using milk infused with beautiful roses and cardamoms, complementing perfectly the flavours of rich chocolates.

Rose and cardamom infused hot chocolate recipe

rose

tbsp cocoa powder (white

tsps honey/ maple syrup (or any sweetener) (depending on the sweetness you want.)

rose water (food grade for baking/ organic)

rose petals (for garnishing / for serving)

tsp cardamom powder (for garnishing / for serving)

milk (for frothing)

Lightly crush the cardamom pods and the rose petals using a pestle and mortar.

Add the rose petals and cardamoms to the milk. Bring it to a boil, simmering over slow heat.

steep

Cool it and let the flavours steep in for some time. This can also be kept overnight in the fridge.

Sieve

Once infused strain it through a fine mesh strainer (tea strainer) to discard the rose petals, and cardamom pods. The rose and cardamom infused milk is now ready to be used.

Heat milk

Add cocoa powder, (white hot chocolate powder or regular cocoa powder), and mix.

Add sweetener . Whisk the milk.

Add a few drops of rose water. Mix well.

Using a milk frother, froth half a cup of milk, and top your hot chocolates with frothy milk.

garnish and serve

Sprinkle a few rose petals, dust some cardamom powder and serve and enjoy.

This was perfect! I love rich “drinking chocolate” when I’m at a nice coffee shop, but at home, I usually want something more mellow. This was it! Still totally flavorful (and a zillion times better than store bought), but I’m glad it only calls for cocoa and not chopped chocolate. Often used in India as an alternative remedy to boost immunity and stave off illness, golden milk (or turmeric milk) is a delicious drink that is nourishing and warming. 

Each serving provides 214 kcal, 8.7g protein, 23.3g carbohydrate (of which 22.2g sugars), 9.4g fat (of which 5.9g saturates), 0g fibre and 0.28g salt.

250 milliliters/9fl oz full-fat milk or non-dairy milk alternative

turmeric turmeric root

½ tsp finely grated fresh root ginger

tsp runny or Manuka honey

½ tsp ground cinnamon, plus extra for garnish (optional)

This delicious Orange Cardamom Hot Chocolate is full of flavor and is an easy twist on the classic winter drink.

Orange Cardamom Hot Chocolate Recipe

chocolate chips (or rough chopped chocolate bar)

cardamom pods, cracked

Peel the rind from 1/2 of an orange with a vegetable peeler taking care to not get too much of the white part.

Add the milk, orange peel and cracked cardamom pods to a saucepan.

Heat over medium until the milk begins to steam and small bubbles form around the edges (do not let it boil). Stir often.

Allow the milk to simmer for about 5 minutes.

Taste the milk. If you want stronger flavors, let it go another 2–3 minutes (but don’t exceed ~8 minutes or the milk starts to taste cooked).

Use a slotted spoon or fine mesh strainer to remove and discard the orange peel and cardamom pods.

Return the milk to a low heat and add the chocolate. Stir until melted.

Pour in to mug and top with one orange peel and a dash of powdered cardamom.

Add the whole milk and heavy cream to a saucepan. Heat over medium until steaming, but not boiling.

Whisk

Whisk in the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt until smooth.

If using cornstarch, whisk together 1 tsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp cold milk to make a slurry. Pour into the pot and gently simmer for about 1 minute to activate and thicken slightly.

Turn

Turn the heat to low and whisk in the chopped chocolate until fully melted and glossy.

Remove

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.

Pour

Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or chocolate shavings. Enjoy!
