The secret to this ultimate Yorkshire pudding recipe is making the batter in advance: the result is Yorkshire pudding that rises tall, is tender and lightly chewy, and has a crisp shell.

The Best Yorkshire Pudding Recipe

eggs (200 grams; 7 ounces)

all-purpose flour (5.25 ounces;

whole milk (6 ounces; 3/4 cup) (see note)

water (.85 ounces; 1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons) (see note)

kosher salt (about 1/2 teaspoon)

Combine eggs, flour, milk, water, and salt in a medium bowl and whisk until a smooth batter is formed. Let batter rest at room temperature for at least 30 minutes. Alternatively, for best results, transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate batter overnight or for up to 3 days. Remove from refrigerator while you preheat the oven.

Adjust oven rack to center position and preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Divide drippings (or other fat) evenly between two 8-inch cast iron or oven-safe non-stick skillets, two 6-well popover tins (see note), one 12-well standard muffin tin, or one 24-well mini muffin tin. Preheat in the oven until the fat is smoking hot, about 10 minutes.

Transfer the pans or tins to a heat-proof surface (such as an aluminum baking sheet on your stovetop), and divide the batter evenly between every well (or between the two pans if using pans). The wells should be filled between 1/2 and 3/4 of the way (if using pans, they should be filled about 1/4 of the way). Immediately return to oven. Bake until the yorkshire puddings have just about quadrupled in volume, are deep brown all over, crisp to the touch, and sound hollow when tapped. Smaller ones will take about 15 minutes, popover- or skillet-sized ones will take around 25 minutes.

Serve immediately, or cool completely, transfer to a zipper-lock freezer bag, and freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in a hot toaster oven before serving.

Preheat the oven to 450ºF. Place the flour, milk, eggs, and salt into a large bowl and whisk until fully combined. Set aside and let sit for 20 minutes.

Remove all the oven racks except the one at the very bottom. Pour the butter or drippings into a 10-inch sized skillet or divide between a 12-cup muffin pan.

Place the skillet into the oven or if using a muffin tin place on a large baking sheet and place into the oven. Bake for 5 minutes until the oil and pan is heated.

Remove the skillet or muffin pan from the oven carefully and whisk the batter again. Pour all of the batter into the skillet or divide between the muffin cups. Bake for 25 minutes or until the batter begins to puff up and turn a golden brown.

Serve hot, immediately.

Using a pastry brush, give it a quick brush up the sides of the muffin cups. Then quickly pour the batter evenly into the muffin pans. How to make Yorkshire Puddings | Gluten free recipes (low FODMAP)

I’ve separated out the elements of this classic so you end up with a family-style, tear and share dish that makes everyone go ‘Oooh!’

Toad-in-the-hole, onion & apple gravy

Try this twist on a Sunday roast, with steak, potatoes, veg and gravy served in a giant Yorkshire pudding. Prep ahead and make Sunday lunch in no time

Giant Yorkshire pudding Sunday lunch

eggs (these should make 100 milliliters in a jug)

whole milk

oil,

fat steak (rather than a long, thin one)

rapeseed oil,

potato

carrots, carrots

broccoli

gravy

To make the batter, crack the eggs into a bowl or jug, then add the flour – it should make roughly the same quantity as the eggs. Whisk together until smooth. Gradually add the milk and carry on whisking until the mixture is lump-free. Season. Pour the batter into a jug, cover and chill for at least 30 mins and up to 24 hrs.

Heat a dry frying pan. Brush the steak with oil and season it well, place in the pan and brown on each side, then remove from the pan and leave to cool completely. If you’re making ahead, wrap and chill until you need it, up to 24 hrs. Peel the potato and cut it into quarters, put them in a pan, cover with water and then bring to the boil. Once they’ve come to the boil, cook for 2 mins, then drain. Leave to dry completely and chill until needed.

When you're ready to serve your Sunday lunch, heat oven to 230C/210C fan/gas 8. Drizzle a little oil into a 20cm frying pan with an ovenproof handle and put it in the oven. Heat a little oil in a small roasting tin on the same shelf. Tip the potatoes into the roasting tin, turn them over in the oil, add the carrots and the steak. Put the tin back in the oven. Pour the batter into the frying pan and put it back in the oven and cook for 25 mins.

Check the Yorkshire pudding. It should have a good dark brown colour at the edges and feel firm and dry. If it’s ready, take it out and set aside. Remove the steak from the tin and rest until you’re ready to serve, wrapped loosely in foil to keep warm. Turn the potatoes and carrots and add the broccoli to the tin. Cook for a further 10 mins and if they look done, remove the veg, but put the potatoes back in the oven. Heat the gravy.

Turn off the oven and put the Yorkshire back in to warm through. Slice the steak and tip any juices into the gravy. Serve the Yorkshire on a plate, filled with the meat, veg and potatoes and pour over the gravy.

Yorkshire puddings make the perfect wrap for rare sirloin steak and onion gravy. We are salivating at the thought. 

Yorkshire pudding wraps

250 milliliters/9fl oz milk

600 milliliters/20fl oz beef stock

This Yorkshire Pudding recipe is not your average dinner roll! They&#039;re a traditional English dish with a crispy, fluffy exterior and soft middle that&#039;s perfect for soaking up any gravy or sauce.

Yorkshire Pudding

all-purpose flour ((120 grams))

whole milk ((300 milliliters))

Combine the flour and salt in a medium mixing bowl. Whisk together the milk and eggs in another medium mixing bowl until well blended. Gradually add the milk mixture to the flour mixture, whisking until smooth. Place in the refrigerator while proceeding.

Preheat the oven to 425°F.

Once the oven is to temperature, spoon 1 teaspoon of beef drippings or oil into each cup of a 12-cup muffin tin. Place the muffin tin in the oven until the oil is very hot, about 10 minutes.

Stir the chilled batter. Remove the muffin tin from the oven and quickly pour about ¼ cup of cold batter into each muffin cup. Immediately return the muffin tin to the oven.

Bake for 20 minutes or until the puddings are puffy, golden brown, and crispy. Serve immediately.

In a small bowl with a pour spout, mix together the flour and eggs, then stir in the milk. Whisk mixture until just combined, a little lumpy is okay!

Refrigerate the batter for a minimum of 30 minutes, or up to overnight.

When ready to bake: Preheat oven to 425 degrees F and add ½ teaspoon of oil or lard to each hole of a 12-count muffin tin.

Place muffin tin in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes.

Remove the batter from the fridge and stir in the salt and pepper.

Working quickly, remove the hot muffin tin from the oven and immediately pour the batter evenly into the tin. Return pan to the oven as fast as possible.

Cook puddings for 16-18 minutes or until puffy and golden brown.

Bake these easy Yorkshire puddings for a Sunday roast. Simply double or triple the quantities to serve more people – the method and cooking times remain the same

Tip the flour into a small jug or bowl and beat in the egg until smooth. Gradually add the milk, 1 tbsp at a time, mixing well until the batter is lump-free. Season with salt and pepper. Can be made up to 1 hr ahead and set aside at room temperature, or covered and chilled for up to 4 hrs.

Heat the oven to 230C/210C fan/gas 8. Divide the sunflower oil evenly between two holes of a Yorkshire pudding tin or four holes of a non-stick muffin tin and put in the oven to heat up. Once the oil is hot, carefully and evenly pour the batter into the prepared holes. Bake for 20-25 mins, without opening the oven door, until the puddings have puffed up and browned. Serve immediately. Once completely cool, will keep frozen for up to a month.

Preheat oven at 220°C fan / 240°C /475 °F /gas mark 9 Sieve flour into a bowl or jug

Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, salt and pepper to the bowl.

Whisk

Whisk until smooth with a hand blender for quickest results.Or hand whisk until smooth.Leave to rest for 10 minutes.

Add 1 tsp oil in each section of a cupcake/muffin trayPlace the cupcake tray in the preheated oven for 10 minutes to heat the oil.

Remove

After 10 minutes remove the cupcake /muffin tray from the oven carefully as the oil will be extremely hot

Pour

Pour the batter evenly in each section to just over ½ way, using a spoon to prevent drips. Work as quick as possible.

Cook

Place in the centre of the oven for about 15 minutes.

Crispy

Remove when the yorkshire puddings are golden and crispy. If you remove them too early they will not be crispy enough and shrink!
